... and his brother has never stopped crying for him. Last night he sauntered back in, ate some food and curled up with his brother on the sofa. He's downstairs asleep by the hearth at this very moment. He's thin and a bit unkempt but his fluffy, well nourished brother is cleaning him up. They're both purring away. Where the hell has he been?

Awww. That is just lovely! Blubbing a little here.

AnnaBegins · 12/03/2012 22:48

Aww and I thought it was amazing that our cat turned up after 5 weeks (smelling distinctly of petrol, we reckon he hitched a lift in a van)! That's wonderful!

BibiBlocksberg · 12/03/2012 23:16

Wonderful news, really warmed the cockles of my heart tonight, especially this bit "His brother has been so withdrawn and he's just purring and purring"

This is exactly why I'll never understand people who claim animals have no or very little feelings Shock

'bring the pilchards over here human' Grin

TapselteerieO · 12/03/2012 23:23

It is lovely after so long he came back, our male cat went missing a year ago, we moved house last May, we put up posters, searched for him, my ds was so upset, we still talk about him, he was a lovely cat but a little wild - I dreamt the other day that he walked into the house and got fed as if he has never been gone.

SconeInSixtySeconds · 12/03/2012 23:29

Anyone got a tissue? I appear to have some dust in my eye.

aww, that's so lovely Showy. All cuddled up together.

LadyBeagleEyes · 12/03/2012 23:30

Just what everybody else has said really.
I'm so happy for his brother Grin

D0oinMeCleanin · 12/03/2012 23:34

My cat went out on X-mas eve and was not seen since. Until about two weeks ago there was a knock on the door. DH was ever charming self and sent me to answer it telling "Tell 'em to fuck off, whoever it is, it's 11pm at night".

When I answered the door there was not a soul in sight. I called back in "There's no-one here. Must've been piss heads on the way back from the pub". Just as I was about the close the door my cat appeared from under a car.

We still don't know if it was the cat who knocked on the door or a cat-napper returning him after realising he ain't called squitty cat for nothing Grin

SleepyFergus · 12/03/2012 23:37

Oh my goodness, that's amazing. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Bet you are spoiling him rotten!!! Grin

One of our cats disappeared for a fortnight (I know, I know - nowt compared to your lad) and it appears he was locked in someone's garage. We put up posters and a woman up the street rang to say he had turned up in their garden. My DH went to get him and he was so pathetic, DH had ro carry him home. He was skinny, unkempt, had no claws (presumably from scratching away at the ground) and no miaow :0(

A few days of sleep, food and lots if love he was back on form, if a little clingy!

Cats - can't bear to be without them!!

ChewingGum · 13/03/2012 04:11

dooin = that is great news too. weird about the door knocker though.

lessemin · 13/03/2012 10:04

Years ago our dog disappeared from my sisters house. Several weeks later I was at my mums house and saw him standing outside the back door demanding to be let in. My Mum lives seven miles away from my Dsis.

He lived with my Mum until he died -obviously preferred it there, bigger garden. Grin

Sparklingbrook · 13/03/2012 10:05

My DSIL says cats would rather change owners than change where they live. Sad

ExitPursuedByABear · 13/03/2012 10:09

Oh what lovely news. I knew as soon as I clicked on the link it would be a good news story.

lambethlil · 13/03/2012 10:10

Wonderful news! Grin

TheSmallPrint · 13/03/2012 10:11

ooh this is like the cat version of The Littlest Hobo.

There's a voice that keeps on calling me
Down the road, that's where I'll always be.
Every stop I make, I make a new friend,
Can't stay for long, just turn around and I'm gone again

Sparklingbrook · 13/03/2012 10:11

No SmallPrint No 'gone again'. Shock Grin

BerryLellow · 13/03/2012 10:12

Oh this is lovely :)

We had brother cats, and one of them disappeared for quite a while. The remaining one used to sit on a gatepost watching out for him looking quite bereft One day the wanderer just turned up. We had him for a while longer and then he did it again, never to return. Cats are odd creatures.

Dillydollydaydream · 13/03/2012 10:15

Ah lovely to hear he came back.

Poledra · 13/03/2012 10:21

Aww, that's lovely - DD must be so pleased to have them both back.

Many years ago, when I was still at school, my grandparents looked after our dog when we were on holiday. Grandad forgot our dog was stupid flightier han his dog, and took them both out for a walk without leads. A car backfired, StupidDog took off in fright. Grandad walked around for ages, no signs of him. Next morning, he went out looking again. They lived over 20 miles away frm us, so not an area StupidDog knew.

My gran (no-nonsense, practical sort of a woman) was in the kitchen baking, fretting about what the hell she was going to tell us children when we got back from holiday. The she heard a bark, thought 'That sounds like StupidDog - nah, I'm imagining it because I want him to come back.' More barks, so she goes to the front door. There's StupidDog, with another dog my gran didn't recognise. She swore up and down that the other dog looked at StupidDog, StupidDog barked then the other dog turned round and sauntered off out the garden gate. She always said she didn't expect anyone to believe her (as she wouldn't believe it if she hadn't seen it for herself) but the other dog had clearly brought StupidDog back. I wonder how many doors they barked at before they got the right one...

TheSmallPrint · 13/03/2012 10:22

oops yes, delete that bit Blush Grin

piratecat · 13/03/2012 10:23

OH wow, it's a miracle, i am gobsmacked!!! (teary)

fabwoman · 13/03/2012 11:55

Shock Poledra.

Hurray for StupidDog's Mate Grin.

ArielNonBio · 13/03/2012 11:59

How are they this morning SOH?

aliciaflorrick · 13/03/2012 12:07

What a lovely story - this gives me hope. My old boy disappeared 11 months ago and I don't know what became of him. I would be overjoyed if he just sauntered back into the house.

ShowOfHands · 13/03/2012 12:14

Wow, StupidDog not so stupid after all. Grin I sort of understand a dog doing it, but a cat surely just goes and mewls at people until they give fish and then adopts them as ne owners. You have no choice in the matter. I thought he'd just moved out and achieved independence.

Well Noon's a bit bemused today tbh. The food's certainly improved (he doesn't know he's just being spoilt) but I appear to have not only got pregnant but also produced a baby who can now crawl in his absence. And he acknowledges this fact by opening one eye disdainfully from his nest on the sofa and glaring at the baby when he screeches excitedly at the cat quota having doubled. Midnight just nuzzles back into him in reassurance and the eye closes.

ArielNonBio · 13/03/2012 12:28

My cat despises babies and children. I don't think she even recognises them as human. If she came back to find a new small person in the house, she would leave again, for sure.

This may cause problems in the future Grin
