I am worrying about my cat again [sad].

She just took ages to get half up to then settle down and didn't seem to know what to do with her front right paw. Then after a minute she got down off the sofa and went out of the room.

She is 16. Her kidneys are failing, she has arthritis and has hypoestesias. She is on 4 tablets a day and special food. I am taking her for an extra check up this evening as she wasn't very well at all last week and had lost weight. She looks like she might have lost more Sad.

The vet said we are not at that point yet but part of me worries we are but he doesn't want to say as he knows how potty I am about her. She did play a bit yesterday though and is eating the new food we had to buy her after refusing to eat anything else.

Well, for heaven's sake, you can reach out for it can't you? It's not like you haven't got opposable thumbs. Grin

A cat into origami, eh? I've had a few of those.

TheOriginalFAB · 11/09/2011 13:40

LOL.

She has just been playing with some tape and crying as she carried her caterpillar around. No one told her she is meant to be ill Grin.

Sad FABCat is not eating very much again.

Sad with you. I may not always be on the net, but I am thinking of you.

TheOriginalFAB · 15/09/2011 08:03

Thank you.

I filled up her dish of water yesterday an din less than an hour she had drunk an inches worth. The vet only ever says good when I tell him she is drinking loads, and I don't understand it as that was the sign she had kidney problems. She won't eat renal wet food and won't eat normal food with ipackatene in so she is only getting renal biscuits and her fortekor.

FABCat went AWOL this morning and I was worried sick until I found her in the garden. I have been outside and she has been sick/had diarrhoea. Still drinking loads, not eaten much of her last 3 meals. Sad

FAB, you know she's not going to get better.Sad Such a trite thing that sad face, when you are going through this. In the end, you have to make the decision as to whether it will be kinder to her to put her to sleep, and only you can make that decision.

We had quite a few conversations with the vet about each of my cats when I felt their time had come, as dh couldn't face it; he is a real softie and would spend everything he has in the world in an effort to keep them going, no matter the quality of their lives. I loved my cats, every single one of them and didn't want to do it, but I was the one responsible for them, so I had to make that choice. I don't know which is harder, seeing them struggling or ending that struggle.

What do you honestly, truly, think is best for her?

TheOriginalFAB · 21/09/2011 08:18

TBH I think she is doing okay. She is asking for food sometimes, she plays with her caterpillar, she tears newspapers up every day and carried on even when we say stop it. She has fight in her still, as DH will testify too after trying to give her her tablets this morning Grin. I just think she has wobbles. DH has promised he will tell me if he thinks the time has come and the vet was happy with her last time he saw her. She is due to go in about 2 weeks to the vet.

She is also still washing herself and the vet said they stop doing that when the time is coming.

Jux · 21/09/2011 22:43

Yep, she sounds OK; glad your dh will help you decide like that. Smile

Naughty FABCat. Just scared the life out of me. She started coughing so I poicked her up and put her on todays paper that I haven't even read yet. She coughed some more, spluttered dribble all over the paper and sat down as if nothing happened Hmm. She walked off, came back and ate some of the newspaper. She is very entertaining. . Me that is, not FABCat!

Oh they are vile creatures! One of our cats threw up the other day and while I was rushing off to get kitchen towel to start the clean-up, another of the cats came along and started eating it [boak]

TheOriginalFAB · 23/09/2011 20:35

Urrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhh.

Naughty FABCat was even more naughty today. I was giving her some attention and she went for me Sad. I tried to stroke her again to show her she was fine with me and she went for me again. She scratched me a few times and it really hurt. I came up in a reaction so had to put cream on it. I was worried it was the sign of her suffering but then remembered all the other times she has bitten and scratched me Hmm.

Found this topic because we are losing our cat. She's only been going really downhill this past 2 weeks but appetite has been plummeting and today she won't eat anything. She is just sitting with her head pretty much in the water bowl. No food, nothing. Just bones. And she isn't washing any more.

Just crawled in here because I think you chaps understand... I am having trouble not crying and DS is being very kind.

TheOriginalFAB · 24/09/2011 21:10

Oh no Sad. It does sound like it is time for moonbellscat.

Do you want to tell us about her?

OP posts:
moonbells · 24/09/2011 22:25

She is a tiny black and white, very neat lady who is now 18. She has always been loud, purry and downright bossy, and until early summer she was her usual, looks like a young cat self and could get over a 6' fence. Since then... now we have a bag of bones with a faint mew and wobbly legs. Today she got caught in a curtain while I was out shopping with DS and I got back to find her exhausted and with her leg up in the air at a funny angle.

I whipped her to the vet's; not broken thank goodness. They did bloods two weeks ago (was not happy about it and gave the vet a fight) and they were mostly fine but now she is severely anaemic and won't eat anything. She got given a painkiller and sent home; the only think they can arrange is an ultrasound to see if it's diffuse cancer, but that depends on whether she makes it through the night.

Earlier, she wanted to go out. Unusual in itself; she then asked to go out the other door then wandered off. Course I was partially undressed at the time Blush so dashed for legwear: by the time I got back she'd vanished. DH out, DS asleep. Grabbed torch and babymonitor and went hunting. Found her down the road unable to get back to the house (we're on a hill). Cuddled and carried her back. Now she is downstairs: DH is back and she's had some milk. Not something we were advised to do but nothing else has worked and tbh if she isn't going to last the night, I'd want to give her what she likes.

moonbells · 24/09/2011 22:26

argh thing not think...

aristocat · 24/09/2011 23:26

Sad moonbells your cat does sound very poorly, wishing you all the best and hope there is some improvement

how is she (and you) today?

Jux · 25/09/2011 03:14

oh moonbells, Sad. A lovely cat; bless you all.

TheOriginalFAB · 25/09/2011 07:25

Oh, she does sound a real character. How is she this morning?

Mine has just been eating newspaper Hmm. I have no idea why.

OP posts:
moonbells · 25/09/2011 11:45

She is still with us. DH got back early and spent until 2am cuddling her. SHe has been curled up in the back garden - still no food, so it's just time. We are just trying to let her sit in the sun where she can absorb warmth because she can't generate enough herself. If she falls asleep there, it will be fitting.

Crying again now. Not helpful I know but...

DH's ex, who helped look after her for her first 5 years is coming over this afternoon to say goodbye. (She was the one who introduced us!)

TheOriginalFAB · 25/09/2011 12:07

Oh no Sad.

Don't you think you need to call the vet?

OP posts:
TheOriginalFAB · 25/09/2011 12:09

FABCat was sick this morning but dh said it was more like dribble and there was grass in it. She hasn't eaten all her breakfast but is asleep on the sofa in my place.
