I am worrying about my cat again [sad].

She just took ages to get half up to then settle down and didn't seem to know what to do with her front right paw. Then after a minute she got down off the sofa and went out of the room.

She is 16. Her kidneys are failing, she has arthritis and has hypoestesias. She is on 4 tablets a day and special food. I am taking her for an extra check up this evening as she wasn't very well at all last week and had lost weight. She looks like she might have lost more Sad.

The vet said we are not at that point yet but part of me worries we are but he doesn't want to say as he knows how potty I am about her. She did play a bit yesterday though and is eating the new food we had to buy her after refusing to eat anything else.

moonbells i am so sorry, it is heartbreaking Sad

Catface is picking up a bit. A colleague had suggested we try some of that pate food as it's easy to eat, and when DH opened the tub she lunged at the foodbowl faster than we've seen her move in days.

Ate a few teaspoonsful; then a few more a while later. Has spent the day in the sun warming herself. Amazing what a bit of food has done. She can manage to get upstairs again now (we have put a bowl of water up there too). Though she does fall over (wince) when she tries to get down from something. Bruised leg from yesterday, I think.

Hoping that she's rallying; if she does 'tell' us that she wants to fight, we shall fight with her! Since twice today she's climbed over the giant pots surrounding the pond to drink from it (pots big enough to keep out DS!) she's not given up yet.

Meanwhile loads of cuddles and photos. DH is going to stay at home this week if he can.

FAB, she is what is technically termed a Naughty Feline.

Moonbells, glad she's rallying. One of my cats had FIE and was on the brink of death. After a few days at the vet she was a bit better and came home. The vet told me to boil chicken or fish, and rice, put the lot in a mixer and feed her that. She did get better; it's not the same circumstances, I know, but he said it was easier to digest.

I used to give her chicken stock (no salt or herbs etc though!) to drink instead of water. Not sure if that was good or not so check if you think about doing it.

FBACat is still naughty as she hasn't eaten her breakfast either. I will ask the vet if she can have bicuits all the time instead of sachets as we are spending longer chosing her food thasn ours, and then she leaves it anyway.

Glad mooncat is doing better Smile.

I started to prepare myself for FABCat having died in the night when I came down before 7 and she wasn't sat at her door or visable in the garden. I took a deep breath and went towards her bed and then saw her at the other door . She miaowed and I opened the cat flap and had to really encourage her to come in.

She didn't eat any wet food from what we could see yesterday, and only a small amount of biscuits. She wasn't asking to be fed this morning either (is just having a few biccies now) but I told dh to feed her and she just sat there. I moved the plate of food to under her chin and she has licked off some gravy. Not being able to eat is not good but I don't know if she is being really really fussy or can't do it but if she can manage biscuits (and a piece of ham and chicken yeseday) surely she can eat wet chunks??

Her next vet appointment is next week.

She has just come out of her room licking her licks so she has had something.

Mooncat has gone

TheOriginalFAB · 27/09/2011 14:02

Oh no Sad. I am so sorry. Did she pass away in her sleep?

OP posts:
Jux · 27/09/2011 15:41

Oh moonbells, I am so sorry Sad Sad Sad

She's in that lovely daisy field in the sky Smile

moonbells · 27/09/2011 15:47

She went at 11 this morning, with DH stroking her.

Jux · 27/09/2011 16:18

That sounds good, moonbells. She was with someone she loved, and being stroked is an all-over-body massage to a cat.

aristocat · 27/09/2011 20:56

so sorry moonbells

Jux · 02/10/2011 01:30

How is FABcat doing?

TheOriginalFAB · 02/10/2011 08:34

FABCat was looking old yesterday and thin even though she isn't really. She has been eating Smile after I spent ages buying different food for her to try. When she jumps up on to the sofa she is misjudging it and not getting her back legs on, so that is a worry Sad. She has a check up at the vets oin Tuesday so we will see what he thinks. She is still tearing at newspaper and eating it and she went for me the other day which really hurt.

Thanks for asking Smile.

Jux · 03/10/2011 01:11

I wonder if there's something in newspaper or the ink which her body is lacking? My uncle used to eat earth and they found he needed potassium or something. OK ridiculous idea Grin good luck on Tuesday.

TheOriginalFAB · 03/10/2011 08:05

I would agree with you but she also likes to tear up the kids homework and any of paper she can get too. Naughty bad bad cat Grin.

OP posts:
Jux · 03/10/2011 23:00

We were right the first time; she's doing cat origami. Shame on you for not appreciating the truly beautiful and intricate designs. Grin

TheOriginalFAB · 04/10/2011 10:59

Grin.

Just back from her check up at the vet Sad. My usual vet was away so we saw someone else. Good news is FABCat has put a bit of weight on. Bad news is the vet thinks blood and urine tests should be done. She has a problem with arthritis and when she jumps on to the sofa she sometimes misjudges where her back legs will land and has to scrabble up Sad. She can't have some arthritis medication because of her kidney troubles and what she was saying she could use isn't licenced. It is only licensed for use on a dog. I am not happy to use that. My vet is back in 2 weeks so she will discuss with him and we will see what he thinks. If she is pain the vet said she will hide away and do excessive grooming. I will be keeping a close eye on her.

oopslateagain · 04/10/2011 11:37

Aah nice to know she has been eating. Oopscat is old (16) and arthritic and spends all day snoozing in the sun or wanting a fuss. He can't jump properly either, he tries to jump on the sofa and only his front legs make it, he drags himself up Sad. It's horrible watching them get old, but lovely when you see them contentedly curled up in a warm spot and know they are still getting enjoyment out of life.

TheOriginalFAB · 04/10/2011 11:46

Poor Oopscat Sad. It is good he wants fussing over Smile.

Jux · 04/10/2011 21:11

FAB, thank you for the flowers, they're beeeyooootiful!

TheOriginalFAB · 04/10/2011 21:20

You are welcome Smile.

So how's the beautiful old FABcat getting along?

TheOriginalFAB · 06/10/2011 21:11

She has eaten today Grin.

She has slept most of the day Sad.

12 days to go until my vet is back.

I don't think she will make 18 Sad.

TheOriginalFAB · 06/10/2011 21:23

I have just been reading some of this thread from the beginning and I can hardly believe she is still here after all the earlier worrying. I have told dh that when the time comes she has to be allowed anything at all she wants and she can sleep on our bed for her last nights.

OP posts:
moonbells · 07/10/2011 14:47

Coming back on to say thanks, all, and to offer virtual strokies to all cats on the thread still here cos I've not got one to stroke any more.

we buried her in the garden by the pond, under a Japanese lantern and surrounded by miniature daffodil bulbs. We don't want to forget where she is!

DH is off to his best man's for the weekend to get hammered remember her and her siblings: the BM had the other two litter mates from kittens and the brother died one month before Mooncat (the sister a year or so ago), so in a furry way they're all back together again now.

I did underestimate the stresses caused, and how much a small boy will react (badly), not so much to losing the cat but because of the effect on us.

sigh. DS desperately wants a new kitten. We can't cope with the idea yet.
