Advice on neighbours dog…neglected.

Neighbour has lived next door for 2 years. Had this dog for last 14 months.

I’m home all day and never seen him be walked or played with.

Living in outside wooden kennel which is covered in his poo and has hardly any water.

Desperate for attention when I walk by him but shaking on approach.

Thr dog warden is not interested - not her job as it’s not lost or causing a nuisance!

RSPCA say as long as he has shelter and water it’s ok.

He’s been outside all this time during all the heatwaves and winter.

I want to rescue him and give him a home and love and the life he deserves.

What can I do?

She lives next door? They would know.

LegalEagle23 · 05/08/2026 21:50

I doubt they would let the OP have him for free. I would have offered £500.

TheWildZebra · 05/08/2026 22:01

I think offer them some cash and they might hand the dog over? You definitely cant pinch him now as all fingers will point to you from the note 😖😖

I really hope the poor lad doesn’t have to spend much longer in those conditions

lolly07766 · 05/08/2026 22:30

I think offer cash too, I’d be happy to donate some if it’s allowed on here.

I don't think that's allowed. Mumsnet will delete the post

Ask can you have the dog if not bolt cutters x

DoodleSquad · 06/08/2026 15:47

Still no response from the neighbours.

Have reported to Environmental Health because of the poo issue.

Oh @DoodleSquadthank you for the update.
Is the dog still left outside with the bare minimum it needs or have things even slightly improved since the feckers they received your letter

Nothing has improved.

What gets me the most is that the dog isn’t even barking or making a noise when I talk to him over the fence.

I can’t get to him unless the neighbour goes out and I enter her property by trespassing.

Do you have an Instagram or other following ? Put details on there and tag some local dog rescues and rspca to embarrass them

I may or may not have a dog that used to be in a similar situation.

I… liberated her. Nothing happened but it made me anxious for a while.

Well done. Was she 'chipped?

deeahgwitch · 06/08/2026 16:40

Oh @DoodleSquad🥲
Have you asked Dogs Trust for advice seeing as the RSPCA are rubbish.😡

RowsOfFlowers · 06/08/2026 16:56

I’d just free the dog tbh. Who’s gonna know it was you.

Because I’ve written them a letter..would be obvious it was me!

I wrote a full post that disappeared but I’ve liberated dogs before and I might just know my way round the system. Not too far from you but I live in a very rural location so I’m more than happy to foster. I can scan for a microchip if needed. Pm me if you need to

Goldenspanners · 06/08/2026 17:29

Following along, hope you hear back asap @DoodleSquad

LegalEagle23 · 06/08/2026 19:21

@DoodleSquad Are they feeding him regularly? Could they be using him for breeding?

It’s a family - mum, dad and 3 children - one is just a few months old. Guess that’s her new ‘toy’ so she has no use for the puppy now the novelty has worn off

Do they rent the house?

That poor, poor dog. What a sad situation:(

I absolutely second this. I have 2 springers, they thrive on love and companionship. Please help this poor boy!

leggingsbotoxmatcha · 06/08/2026 19:33

This looks like a working dog that lives out in kennels? That’s fairly common in some more rural areas. Will they be working him come September?

Then they’re not looking after it well leaving it in its own mess or lack of exercising, socialisation or training.

They haven’t walked him in over 12 months!

I’m so sorry @DoodleSquad. I hope they do respond positively to you. Do the (older) children never go out into the garden and interact with the dog?

(PS I’m sure the people who work in the RSPCA would love to do more - you don’t go into that line of work without wanting to help animals. But they do have to work within the law. It’s the laws that need changing. Really do wish dog licences would be reconsidered.)

RowsOfFlowers · 06/08/2026 21:51

I really want to help this dog. After seeing the image of the dog, it has stayed with me. I really hope he can be rescued. It absolutely breaks my heart to know that he’s locked in a cage without love, companionship or exercise. Thank you OP for all that you’ve done so far. I truly hope there’ll be a positive outcome to this story. That dog is in my thoughts and prayers. I say this while cuddling my two dachshunds tonight.
