Where does your dog sleep

Interested in hearing where your dog sleeps and if they sleep in your room / bed where do they go when you go on holiday.

OP posts:
JustAn0therUsername · 26/11/2025 06:05

Mine sleeps downstairs on his bed or on The sofa.

Ozmumofboys3 · 26/11/2025 06:10

On our bed (usually at the end and alternates sides during the night), has a bed in the lounge which he uses occasionally but only if we’re in the lounge 🙈

OverNotOver · 26/11/2025 06:10

In his crate in the living room.

If we’re away he's either with us or at my mums, either way he takes his crate and bed and has the same routine.

EleanorReally · 26/11/2025 06:21

our dog sleeps on our bed
we were going away and looked into a dog sitter but they stipulated they must not sleep on the bed!
so she went to a neighbour
otherwise she goes to my dson and sleeps on her own bed since his dog sleeps on his bed and they wouldnt share

muddyford · 26/11/2025 06:40

Dogs come with us on holiday. Here, they sleep downstairs in their own beds.

ClassicBBQ · 26/11/2025 06:43

Downstairs on the sofa. Neither of us would get a wink of sleep if we were in the same room, let alone the same bed! He goes to a brilliant boarding kennels when we are away.

snoopythebeagle · 26/11/2025 06:54

In our bed, under the duvet.

The same when we go on holiday.

Sometimes he has sleepovers with FIL and sleeps on his pillow 😂

Twiglets1 · 26/11/2025 06:55

My dogs sleep in the kitchen when they’re puppies so the floor can be easily washed in the morning (tiled floor).

Once they are house trained they are allowed the whole downstairs but not allowed upstairs.

HerosDimples · 26/11/2025 07:07

Our dog sleeps upstairs on the bed in the spare room.

when we go away my daughter’s best friend and her boyfriend come to stay for the week it two weeks to look after her. We still have the dog walker come when we are away to help as well.

TheHungryHungryLandsharks · 26/11/2025 07:16

Three adult Goldies on my bed. One in a bed on the floor (she doesn’t like cuddles), and the puppy is in with DD1 on her bed.

All have done it since they were 8 weeks old - wouldn’t have it any other way! Beautiful, uninterrupted sleep. Same on holiday, only puppy hasn’t yet been on holiday and I imagine she’ll stick close to her mum rather than go in with DD1

Why have a dog?

Sorry if I've misunderstood but that's a bit unfair. Nothing wrong with people going on holiday or keeping upstairs pet free. Its not uncommon. Lot of dogs prefer to have a confined area to sleep eg kitchen rather than free run. Doesn't mean the dog is excluded from family life. Can't see anything awful in that post.

HelloCharming · 26/11/2025 07:32

Ours sleeps on the bed, we weren’t going to encourage it, but as a puppy she just leapt on and snuggled with us and it was so cute. We keep old throw on the bed so easy to wash.

it’s not ideal and I’m not sure I’d encourage it if we ever got another dog.

she also has a bed in the room but will move around, starts downstairs, the landing, bedroom floor, her bed, our bed….

away we’ll take a throw or old sheet and her bed . Or she stays at home with the in laws. And gets spoiled rotten, she definitely sleeps on their bed.

On my partners bed or under his duvet.
Family dog used to sleep in her basket in the kitchen.

Domino211 · 26/11/2025 07:37

Mine sleeps downstairs on the sofa in the chilly kitchen, if we go away and he comes with us he sleeps on the bed for about 3 minutes then gets too hot so moves to the floor! If we’re away and he can’t come he goes to the kennels - he prefers that to home sitters, he’s incredibly attached to us but very aloof with people he doesn’t know.

Howinthehelldidthishappen · 26/11/2025 07:48

1 on his bed or the sofa, both are in the living room. The other in a crate in the kitchen, He loves it in there and puts himself to bed when he thinks it's time.

Do you mind if I ask how many hours she does per day?

Does she stay late at night?

I have a dog sitter helping out this Christmas sir is doing 5 hours a day and pets alone at night

I just hope they will be ok

No this absolutely isn’t ok.

thetallfairy · 26/11/2025 07:56

Yes no doubt I now need to ask another friend to stay over

It's for two nights
But I just think what if ?!!!

Plus he is extremely spoilt so will be missing us all

Thanks

thetallfairy · 26/11/2025 07:56

Cats have cat flap and go in and out and usually pop into neighbours

ItsInTheSingingOfAStreetCornerChoir · 26/11/2025 08:00

During the day, their bed in the lounge. At night in the kitchen. They’re not allowed on the furniture or upstairs. Local kennels when we go away.

You just hope they’ll be ok?! No! This is not normal. Get a new sitter!

This.

@thetallfairy dogs are completely dependent on their owners. So you need to make sure they are ok not just hope that they are.

Mumofyellows · 26/11/2025 09:34

My dogs sleep on the sofas in the living room unless my husband is away and then they sleep with me in bed. We do let them up to sleep with us if we or they wake after about 4am as they love a cuddle but it’s tricky with all 4 of us in the bed as they are Labradors
When we are away my daughter looks after them and she either lets them sleep with her or they are in their usual spot on the sofas.

Edited

My dog isn’t allowed into bedrooms, I don’t want a smell of dog out of my beds or hairs all over my bed , I’m sorry but I think that’s yuck !
She is a lab/retriever ..
She has run of house other than bedrooms , we have her since 8 weeks old , she’s 14 now & everyone loves her to pieces ..
I think there are posters on here & if you don’t leave your dog sleep in bed with you they think you are a bad dog owner , how ridiculous 🙄

And then she claims that the dog is extremely spoilt... 😬
