Where does your dog sleep

Interested in hearing where your dog sleeps and if they sleep in your room / bed where do they go when you go on holiday.

OP posts:

Ours isn't allowed upstairs.
He weighs more than me. He sleeps in his bed in the living room (or sofa even though he knows he's not allowed on unless invited).

He's quite an anxious boy, so for holidays he goes to our neighbour who he's familiar with (and feeds him well!). He takes his bed with him.

greengreengrass3 · 25/11/2025 23:38

Two dogs elder one that is 15 sleeps on our pillows with us, the other sleeps either between my legs on top of the quilt or gets under the quilt and snuggles into my chest.

Valzo · 25/11/2025 23:39

Dog sleeps in crate in our room and comes into bed in the mornings for a cuddle. Perfectly happy in crate. Me and DH holiday separately and quickly so that one of us is always there for the dog. I took the kids away for 5 days, DH stayed home. Then DH took kids for 3 days somewhere else and I stayed home.

Under the blanket on the top, she’s all warm

DemonsRocks · 25/11/2025 23:54

On our bed, and I wake up 20 times a night to make sure he's warm enough and blanket is still on him.
When we go abroad he stays with DD on her bed.

ninjahamster · 25/11/2025 23:56

On our bed. Don’t go on holiday so that’s not an issue!

Notthisagainyouidiot · 26/11/2025 00:10

On his blanket on the sofa. He's huge so I never let him on the bed as I knew it would be a nightmare and the cat would be furious. When we've taken him on holiday he sleeps on the floor by the room door. Shuns sofas and his blanket to be on guard duty.
Goes to kennels when we're abroad. Takes his blanket and toys.

YeOldeGreyhound · 26/11/2025 00:28

At the foot of my bed. I have had her for over 15 years and she has slept on my bed for all this time.
She did used to climb in during the winter months, but now she is happy spread out at my feet with a warm blanket.
She comes on holiday with me.

therewasafishinthepercolator · 26/11/2025 00:40

Has the run of downstairs. She has a bed in the living room and one in the dining room.

She's too old to get up on sofas now so only sleeps there when we're there to lift her up and down.

Only slept with us after getting spayed and the kids insisted she slept with us on Christmas Eve in case Santa scared her. 😁

She was a nuisance. No one got any sleep. Lying on my face. Sticking her nose in my ear, tongue in my mouth, under the bed, on the bed, beside the bed, on the bed again....😬

Goes to PIL when we away.

Magpie50 · 26/11/2025 00:48

17 yr old sleeps under a table next to the bed (it's covered by a floor length tablecloth with a hooded bed and pillow so it's her den).
13 yr old sleeps in the bed with me.
And what's a holiday?😄

Serenity45 · 26/11/2025 01:21

Usually on our bed but has the run of the house so will sometimes potter downstairs. She comes away with us in the UK as we love a dog friendly rural break. If we're abroad either one of my sisters has her (we do reciprocal sitting as they both have dogs) or she goes to one of two trusted sitters who home board and she definitely sleeps on their beds too.

Kitchen. He’s not allowed in any of the bedrooms. When on holiday, he either goes to a friend or local kennels.

Why have a dog?

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 26/11/2025 01:47

THE KITCHEN
the ground as far as far as im concerned. shut the door and it's gone.
Can't stand the fucking thing

Nope rehoming isn't an option as the rest of them love the thing
They treat it like a child / baby . Its an animal!
Hate needy fuckers

Our bedroom opens into a sitting room and they have a sofa and a dog bed to choose from but they often seem to prefer sprawling on the floor.

Our dog walker does home boarding so they stay there when we're away, which they adore. I wouldn't for one second trust them alone overnight!

TerrorAustralis · 26/11/2025 02:37

Downstairs, he is not allowed upstairs. He’s got 2 beds (2 different rooms), a fluffy blanked and 2 spots on the sofa that he moves between.

When we go away we either have a house sitter stay with him, or he goes to a dog sitter.

AllThisTime · 26/11/2025 02:43

Mine have their own bedroom with beds and duvets. Sometimes they sleep in there but other times they sleep downstairs on a sofa or in with us or the kids. If we go on holiday they come with us or go and stay with our friends if that’s not possible.

Mine have their beds next to my bed. One hoppedup on my bed last night so I could hold his paw during a scary storm. Sometimes I wake up with the other point blank from my face staring at me.

A not uncommon way to wake up. The little westie has his own pillows to snooze on and the cocker likes to think she's a person. When we go away they stay on their beds and don't hop up with me.

Do you mind if I ask how many hours she does per day?

Does she stay late at night?

I have a dog sitter helping out this Christmas sir is doing 5 hours a day and pets alone at night

I just hope they will be ok

She tends to go over around 7:30/8am, walks them, gives them a bit of breakfast and generally fusses them then goes again around 10 as she works middle of the day, then she’s back at 3:30/4 and stays until 10ish. They get more time with her than they do with me some days, and certainly more undivided attention!
She sometimes stays overnight but it’s probably 50/50, and entirely her choice. They couldn’t care less if she was there all night or not, old dog still sleeps in our room anyway even with her just across the landing.

RoguesMum25 · 26/11/2025 05:51

When we got our puppy she was crate trained ao continued on with that she has slept wonderful about 12 or so hours overnight during her day time naps she sometimes lays on the lounge room floor under the air conditioning or out in the sun in the backyard but mostly in her crate as she knows/understands thats for sleep.

FuzzyBumbleeBee · 26/11/2025 06:00

Ddog1 sleeps on the bed between us in winter as she hates the cold, in summer she might sleep on the end but more likely she would sleep in the next room as the floor is cool

Ddog2 hates the bed and will have a short wrestle/snuggle then sleeps on the floor of whatever room I'm in.

Zippedydodah · 26/11/2025 06:01

Mine stay downstairs, I don’t like dogs on the bed because I’m a restless and a light sleeper so we all get a bad night.
They have the living room and kitchen, the two dogs can chose which of 4 dog beds, four armchairs and a settee as to where they sleep.
If we go on holiday they come too.
