@Cocopuff

Will have to look back to tag others as cannot remember all names.

@tizwozliz Gorgeous picture.

Purplepups picture reminded me of a party I went to to celebrate my boss’s dog first birthday party. Admittedly, the poor little mite had gone through a lot in its first year, having had operations, been attacked etc. However, the party was the most bizarre party I have ever been to, and a pink chihuahua did actually turn up (it had been dyed red for some event, but they couldn’t totally wash the dye out).

Is there a dog age limit on joining this thread? Or another one for adolescents? Going to collect our rescue pup this weekend but he's almost 2!

Exciting! You'll be fine on here, just don't forget the photos!

WhippyLongStocking · 04/08/2023 18:39

@spidershavetoomanyknees Welcome.

my pup is 10 months old and has been with us 2 weeks. At the beginning I had a few choice words with family members assuming she would behave like our old whippets and letting her wander the house without expecting any housetraining accidents when she was obviously stressed.

I think we are there now and almost there with nighttime although she’d clearly prefer to be on our bed.

WhippyLongStocking · 04/08/2023 18:47

Here’s a photo of her relaxing and being not so sure of being in coffee shop.

I said my current pup wouldn’t sleep on the bed, but I’ve given in. We all sleep peacefully for 8-hours now 🙂

WhippyLongStocking · 04/08/2023 19:16

I would give in. A few evenings ago she lay flat on the bed as if to show us how little space she would take up and how we would barely notice….

tizwozliz · 04/08/2023 20:19

@AnnieSnap - we said the same with pup number 1. Now we have both of them in our bed!

I quite like it 🙂

@Riverlee I know how important pictures are! Here is PurplePup today.

He has spent far longer in his crate napping today and has chosen to go in there. No closed door though....

There’s something so calming and lovely about a sleeping pup.

BigBundleOfFluff · 04/08/2023 22:52

Hmmm it's all good until you stay at your mums and don't bring a crate and have to sleep with a complete UNIT of a dog.
She's still the bestest though.

Day one: he's a whirlwind (photo tax included) but that's not a surprise. He's taken so well to initial lead training, not jumping up etc. Although he did nervous gulp his tea, brought it back up... and the ate that because we weren't fast enough.

He also seems to have nervous diarrhea. Quickly followed by humping and peeing on the bedding from his last home (???) Hasn't done it to any of the new stuff. Any ideas?

AnnieSnap · 05/08/2023 18:52

Just here for a small rant. Florapup has been a PITA for the last several days. The biting had settled a fair bit, but now she’s teething (15 weeks), so not just bitey, but also manic. Being a Weimaraner, she is a big lump of a pup too. So we have biting whilst jumping around (see husbands eye), barking and lunging at the other dogs if they have a chewy thing that she wants and she always wants what they have (no danger aside from accidents like DH’s eye). If I don’t put chewing things out, she has nothing to bite on but us or the furniture. I don’t like her at all at the moment (although I love her). I called her a knob this morning and it fits. 🤬🤬🤬🤬 Why are we doing this again?

NoWordForFluffy · 05/08/2023 20:01

Ahhhh, FluffyPup is being a total dickhead on walks right now. Think I stop more than I go. He's 10 months next week and a total knobhead at times. 🤬

#solidarity

Riverlee · 06/08/2023 07:33

@spidershavetoomanyknees May just be settling in nerves as he adjusts to his new home. Is his food the same? Have you tried the scent odour sprays on the area he wees. Also, mine was always worse weeing inside on heavy rain days. However, if it continues, maybe worth talking to the vet.

Would a slow-feeder help:with the eating, as it’ll slow down the rate he consumes his food?

@AnnieSnap I know exactly what you mean about not liking (but still loving) them. I had several days like that. Are you sure it’s a weirmsner though, that looks more like a black cockadoodle!

Chihowhow · 06/08/2023 10:33

I’m really struggling for activities to keep Chipup busy. She isn’t food oriented at all, so the standard chews, kongs do nothing. It’s a really long day for her each day and I just don’t know what to do to keep her entertained and busy!! She loves ripping things with her teeth, but other than puppy pads I’m a bit stumped on that one! Xx

AnnieSnap · 06/08/2023 11:42

@Riverlee wash your mouth out with soap. That’s a purebred Poodle 😂🤣 and not the culprit! This is the culprit

Puppy survival thread part 2
Riverlee · 06/08/2023 11:46

Thought he was a poodle identifying as a weinenrer (sp?) for a second!

… and apologies to PurePoodlePup.

AnnieSnap · 06/08/2023 13:55

@Riverlee 😂🤣

NoWordForFluffy · 06/08/2023 14:51

FluffyPup loves liberating green beans from the bag they're brought home from the allotment in! It's like an all you can eat bean buffet for him!

WhippyLongStocking · 06/08/2023 16:06

@Chihowhow mine likes to un-stuff stuffed toys. Not really a quiet, tidy activity though.

She’s not super food motivated but she does like the yak milk chews which are hard, a bit noisy and last much longer than they look.

BigBundleOfFluff · 06/08/2023 16:33

@WhippyLongStocking if she likes the destuffing experience get a hollee and stuff it with an old T-shirt or something. Then re stuff and re stuff and re stuff again. Fluffpup is a disemboiler too.

Riverlee · 06/08/2023 16:45

@BigBundleOfFluff i literally saw that on Facebook on instragram yesterday. Someone cut up a T-shirt and put it in a ‘holey ball’.

spidershavetoomanyknees · 06/08/2023 16:49

Day two and the "puppy blues" have hit hard. Are there teenage dog blues too?? Combine them both and that's where I am at the moment. Can't tell if he's reactive to other dogs or just doesn't like it when they're off lead (side note: WHY are so many dogs off lead??? If I hear "he's friendly!" one more time). Knowing that all the things that frustrate us are probably why he was given up in the first place is just heartbreaking but I've hit my limit for right now and have hidden away upstairs to get a ruddy grip. Not quite working yet
