Dogs in bedrooms

We've never had a dog sleep in our bedroom. But our dear Golden, who's 4, has just gotten over a tummy bug and is being very barky from his den in the utility room. We're close to cracking and having him up with us.
How many of you allow dogs in your bedrooms?

We sometimes let the dog sleep with us but it doesn't happen often. Usually if he's been unwell and more recently due to his castration surgery. He's so happy when he's next to us! It's the best feeling.

Oakyloaky · 04/04/2023 23:00

My doggie goes upstairs by 9pm to make her bed on my bed . She has her own blanket. Cannot imagine my bed without her !

Purplecatshopaholic · 04/04/2023 23:01

My two sleep in our bedroom in their own beds. When I was single I shared a bed with my older dog but he opted to remove himself to his own bed when I got a partner (to my partners relief). Wouldn’t have them sleep anywhere else. I also have cats, one of whom usually does sleep in the bed with us.

Bigminnie1 · 04/04/2023 23:05

My little Cavapoo sleeps on our bed. Often at the bottom on her blanket but often on top of my legs. She's little, doesn't she's and doesn't move around much. I love it.

DiscoBeat · 04/04/2023 23:05

Nope. Our Lab is not allowed upstairs or in the dining room or office.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 04/04/2023 23:06

Mine started off in a crate downstairs when he was a young puppy but I gave up once he was house trained, he tends to sleep on a rug in the corner of my room.

ILostMyself · 04/04/2023 23:06

We used to let our dog sleep in the bedroom but DH hated the licking sounds and used to boot her (not literally) out of the bedroom into the hallway at some point every night. Now we have a second dog they both sleep downstairs in the kitchen as it feels like they have company at least now… although I would love them to both be upstairs. I miss having the dog in the room and waking up to them in the morning. Maybe I should put DH downstairs 🤔

ILostMyself · 04/04/2023 23:07

Our dog never slept on the bed though…. Always in her own bed on the floor

DecommissionedVag · 04/04/2023 23:11

My greyhound sleeps in my bedroom, but not on the bed. She has her own bed on the floor. She only comes on the bed when invited, this is usually on a weekend morning before I strip the bed to launder. The other odd occasion is when there's a lot of fireworks.

Tr1skel1on · 04/04/2023 23:13

Absolutely not! I see what he tries to roll in during the day! I love my collie but they aren't bed dogs.

However I share my bed with 3 cats, it's their space away from the dog

I’d never have my dog in with me. As much as I love him I don’t want his fur in my bed, nor do I want the room smelling of his farts all night. He sleeps in a kids pop up tent in the dining room. I can say “time for Pingu to go to bed” and he plods off to his tent 😆

LOL 😂 Love this!

EconomyClassRockstar · 04/04/2023 23:17

Our little dog sleeps at the end of our bed, alternating between on my feet and between us. I find it comforting. Our bigger dog sleeps on his bed in our room because he farts. Our room is pretty big though so it works.

EconomyClassRockstar · 04/04/2023 23:18

I meant to add, they sleep so much better in with us. They'd happily sleep until midday if they could.

Yes to dogs on the bed, they are pack animals and don't understand why they are separate from the pack at night. You get a way better bond and they will be more obedient and responsive.

Agree. Mine isn't clingy by day but he loves sleeping together. He's very secure and easygoing.

Ineedwinenow · 04/04/2023 23:22

My girl is not allowed in the bedroom and definitely under no circumstances on the bed….

Ddog currently asleep under the duvet, I'm laying on the edge of the bed 🙄
If I move over she kicks me!

Beesandhoney123 · 04/04/2023 23:29

Big lurcher sleeps in a giant bed next to me but sneaks up on the bed in the morning when dh brings my coffee. He did sleep on the bed as a rescue, but we managed finally to get him off and not get up when we were asleep. He is HUGE and furry.

Baby lurcher sleeps on the bed, snuggled next to me and melts my heart by snuggling his nose and sighing with happiness when he is comfy.

Smallest furry dog sleeps in her basket next to dh. She is old, and if she needs a wee in the night, wakes up big lurcher whom nudges my hand until I wake up. She is too small to reach me. Once happy I'm awake, big lurcher goes back to bed, leaving me to escort small dog to garden.

Mostly they sleep in silence all night. Lurchers are very lazy and always try to sleep in. They aren't allowed in bedrooms unless it's bed time. They'd never leave:)

pinkyvase · 04/04/2023 23:36

Yes, she's in our room - we spent a couple of weeks trying to get her used to a bed downstairs but it was too upsetting for her. She begins the night having a cuddle with us then gets in her own bed when told, and always manages to sneak under the covers when we start stirring in the morning.

She's began synchronizing her snoring with my husband's.

foxlover47 · 04/04/2023 23:47

All three in my bed with me :) well 2 top of the covers and one under the duvet with me

yevrah1102 · 04/04/2023 23:56

My golden used to sleep on my bed until my first DC was born. Now Ddog has his own plush bed next to mine and sleeps soundly. I wouldn't have it any other way

Henry176 · 04/04/2023 23:56

We have a ginormous Newfypoo puppy who thankfully chooses to sleep on a futon in our spare room, however as soon as somebody gets up in the morning she comes to investigate and sometimes jumps on to join the one left in bed for a few minutes. This is a bit like being pinned down by a blue whale, but charming.

Currently squashed so awake and on here.

Dh a yorkie and the cat all stretched out in the bed.

Let him op what's the harm really

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 05/04/2023 08:06

Our beagle has slept in the bed from the day we brought him home.

He never had a single night-time accident and he's a great hot water bottle and cuddle buddy 🥰

Newpeep · 05/04/2023 08:59

Puppy in the bedroom crated. She would be ok out now but she’s a pain to the cat so she’s shut in with us.

Our last dog was in the spare room crated (her choice) but she would sleep in our room in her own bed if she was poorly or we had visitors as she’d spook else.

I don’t like dogs or cats on the bed.

Eight weeks!!

Jesus, that's cold.

Mine have always slept alone from day 1 even at that age. I've never even done the faffing about of sleeping next to them creeping away etc.
