Dogs in bedrooms

We've never had a dog sleep in our bedroom. But our dear Golden, who's 4, has just gotten over a tummy bug and is being very barky from his den in the utility room. We're close to cracking and having him up with us.
How many of you allow dogs in your bedrooms?

Mine does , he sleeps in the bed .

thelengthspeoplegoto · 04/04/2023 21:19

Our bishon sleeps on his own blanket on our bed or in his bed in our room. He doesn't shed and usually stays at the bottom of the bed. He might come and cuddle if it's very cold.

mondaytosunday · 04/04/2023 21:22

Yes once house trained my dogs sleep with me. I am single though - my late husband probably wouldn't have allowed them on the bed.

StarbucksQueen · 04/04/2023 21:24

My cocker sleeps on my bed. I live in a bungalow, and am up at least 3 times in the night - a menopause symptom that seems to have turned into a habit - he starts off on the bed, then on the floor when he gets too hot

yellowhedges · 04/04/2023 21:24

Can't sleep unless my dog is on my bed. Just love her.

afaloren · 04/04/2023 21:26

Our lab is crated at night but we have him on the bed about once a week as a treat.

ilovesushi · 04/04/2023 21:28

Love have my dog (goldie lab x) on the bed but DH claims he doesn't sleep well if she's there. She goes right at the end of the bed on my side and stays pretty still so I don't know what his problem is. Most nights she starts off downstairs then creeps up later. Sometimes she almost jumps on top of the cat who also likes the bed and we all wake up with a fright. Love to sleep surrounded by animals!

30 yrs of dogs sleeping downstairs.... then a distressed little rescue broke my resolve and the last 5yrs has seen me sleeping with 3 large hot water bottles 😉. I wouldn't change it now, very happy with the set up.

hiredandsqueak · 04/04/2023 21:31

Ddog has the run of the house apart from my and dc's bedrooms. She has a bed she never sleeps in, a blanket on the sofa and another on the bed in the downstairs bedroom she generally sleeps in one or the other. One day last week she woke me snoring on the landing after she had dragged the bathmat to sleep on there instead. Bathmat is now put in the bath when I go to bed.

ProbablyDogNappersHunX · 04/04/2023 21:35

Mine came into the bedroom when I was newly single and circumstances dictated he was left more in the day than I would have liked so I compensated overnight.

I've no real desire to evict him from the bedroom now I've met someone new and WFH, but it would be naive to think I could break a 5 year habit anyway.

Doje · 04/04/2023 21:35

Ours does. It wasn't part of the plan but he didn't settle on his own.

He now has run of the stairs, landing and our bedroom. He mooches between his favourite places but isn't allowed on the bed.

I love it when he nose boops me in the morning to say hello.

Mum2jenny · 04/04/2023 21:38

Dog sleeps in our bed now, didn’t as a pup but she gets cold easily and our bed is nice and warm for her.

XMissPlacedX · 04/04/2023 21:38

I have 3 dogs, the little one ( Jack Russell ) sleeps curled up next to my tummy in bed, has done since we had him. The other two are to big to sleep on the bed so one sleeps on his bed on the floor next to my husband and the other on her bed on the floor next to me. Wouldn't have it any other way , they are part of the family.

YouJustDoYou · 04/04/2023 21:40

When my parsons jack russell was a puppy, the first night he slept downstairs he pooed everywhere - EVERYWHERE. That was the only night he ever slept by himself, slept next to my bed for the next 20 years and no issues.

Welshgirl10 · 04/04/2023 21:42

Two mini dachshunds here- they sleep in a crate (not locked) next to the bed all night! Couldn't imagine not having my little furry friends with me, their little snores make me feel all warm and content knowing they are happy!

faffadoodledo · 04/04/2023 21:42

We've dragged a mattress downstairs and my dear husband is sleeping on it. I think we'd have dog upstairs if it wasn't for our love life tbh. Not sure I could cope with a hairy spectator!

First dog in 1995 did. Subsequent dogs (currently living with dogs no. 4 & 5) have not been allowed upstairs or on the furniture. Best decision ever for us but each to their own.

OrlandointheWilderness · 04/04/2023 22:30

My 2 spaniels sleep downstairs and aren't allowed upstairs at all. My DPs lab sleeps in the bedroom.
Moving in together is going to require thought 😂 😂

RoseDog · 04/04/2023 22:36

Ours sleeps in between us, she starts off in dds bed then "sneaks" in our bed under the duvet, I love it, when dp gets up for work she comes to cosy me in with her head on my pillow.

Hairymaery · 04/04/2023 22:47

Yes to dogs on the bed, they are pack animals and don't understand why they are separate from the pack at night. You get a way better bond and they will be more obedient and responsive.

BelindaMelinda · 04/04/2023 22:54

No way.

Our spaniel is allowed on the sofas and has plenty of snooze time curled up next to us. She generally goes to sleep by about 9pm on the sofa and sleeps solidly next to us. When we go up to bed around 11/12 ish she gets up and goes to her bed for the rest of the night.

We still have to fight for space with the 5 year old crawling into our bed between us during the night, I couldn't cope with the dog as well!

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 04/04/2023 22:55

Mine is 12 and has slept on the bed nearly every night of those years. He loves it and it's ok with me.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 04/04/2023 22:57

gogohmm · 04/04/2023 20:23

I'm no, door slept downstairs from 8 weeks old

Eight weeks!!

Jesus, that's cold.

Quveas · 04/04/2023 22:59

7.5 year old. In the bedroom (or whatever other room he chooses) yes. On the furniture, never.

YourWinter · 04/04/2023 23:00

My dog and cats sleep in my room. Sure beats having to share with another human.
