Dogs in bedrooms

We've never had a dog sleep in our bedroom. But our dear Golden, who's 4, has just gotten over a tummy bug and is being very barky from his den in the utility room. We're close to cracking and having him up with us.
How many of you allow dogs in your bedrooms?

If you can bring a dog bed in that's what I would do. I hate the dog being on my bed but it's too late now. They're pack animals though so don't have the heart to shut her away on her own.

whiteroseredrose · 04/04/2023 20:33

Our dog slept with us within a few weeks. It was cold so we all snuggled together for warmth, and never looked back.

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 04/04/2023 20:34

Yes.
Saves heating 😀

I couldn’t imagine not - but he is small and doesn’t shed.

For the first 18 months, DDog slept in her crate, but woke up every morning at 5am. I thought she needed a wee so would trudge downstairs and let her out. Turns out that she was just cold/lonely/bored. One week when DH was on night shifts, she would not settle and it was like having a newborn. I cracked and allowed her upstairs, she slept on my bed from 10pm - 8am without stirring. She now sleeps on our bed. I’m maximising sleep where I can!

2 dogs on the bed every night. I actually feel a bit rejected in summer when my hot dog decides to sleep on the floor next to the bed.

Floralnomad · 04/04/2023 20:39

Our dog slept upstairs from being house trained . He used to sleep on a bed in his own room but he was seriously ill at New Year so now sleeps in our room as I can’t risk him doing the stairs alone in the middle of the night . He sleeps on our bed until about 2am and the goes and sleeps on a dog bed by our bed .

Yes small lurcher sleeps on my bed, I love it, I hold her paw as I fall asleep. I love waking up and seeing her little sleepy face.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 04/04/2023 20:42

Don't like our dog on the bed as he moved around too much but he does sleep in the bedroom on an old duvet next to the bed.

What a way to start the day!

glovepillow22 · 04/04/2023 20:46

I do like my dogs on the bed but I cannot stand the noise of them licking their bits through the night and preening themselves so I usually end up in a fit of rage at 2am putting them downstairs to their "proper" beds. I have a super king and it feels tiny when they are in it but sometimes the company is nice ❤️

mrsfennel · 04/04/2023 20:46

@userxx It really is! She is so good, she knows when im going to the loo and getting back in bed or when its actually time to get up. She used to sleep in a crate next to my bed as she was so tiny, but she's 10 months now so I dont worry about squashing her anymore😂

cleowasmycat · 04/04/2023 20:49

Mine even has his own sleeping bag.

This is adorable. We had our dog on our bed in Jan/Feb when it was freezing but not now. I didn't want it to be long term as I like my peace.

Not a chance in hell! Our dog is trained to not even come upstairs, let alone near our bed. He sleeps 10-12 hours straight in his own bed downstairs every night (he has the run of downstairs) and I think all of us are happier and sleep better that way! He occasionally has to sleep in our room if staying with family and it’s not good for any of us, he wakes if DH or I get up for a wee or blow our nose and it’s hard to settle him again when we’re right next to him.

GlassBunion · 04/04/2023 20:52

Our golden sleeps alongside the bed , next to me.
The crate didn't work and, sorry, I think they're cruel.

Sisisimone · 04/04/2023 20:53

Ours snuggles up between us on the bed. He also sleeps with the dog boarder on her bed 😆. He is only 7kg and non shedding though. If he was a big, hairy slobberer I might feel differently

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 04/04/2023 20:53

Our 2 year old lab has just started sleeping upstairs with us ( on our bed for a cuddle then onto the floor as he doesn’t like being hot) as otherwise he wakes up wanting his mum at 4am 😖.

mrsfennel · 04/04/2023 20:54

@Perfectlystill yes I can definitely understand that, I do tend to wake up at least once in the night when she either wants to get under or out of the covers. Its also only me in bed, if you are a couple then its harder to get a good nights sleep anyway I think!

MathsNervous · 04/04/2023 20:55

Paperexcelandpens · 04/04/2023 20:08

No definitely not.

This.

MathsNervous · 04/04/2023 20:57

DDog doesn't sleep in a designated dog bed either, she just sleeps on the floor in the kitchen at night and anywhere in the living room/hallway/WC etc during the day.

RoseBucket · 04/04/2023 20:58

My dog does but she is non shedding and has a blanket at the end of my bed and once I tuck her in she falls asleep, she does have a bath though first if she has got muddy during the day. She is a very loud snorer and snorter though!

cleowasmycat · 04/04/2023 21:01

Wouldn’t load before.

Dogs in bedrooms

Our bedroom door handle has never worked properly. Big dogs slept/sleep on the floor. DH encouraged spaniel on the bed - I resisted, she manoeuvred the dog bed to where she could see me and I prevailed. Then DH started staying up later and when I was asleep, spaniel joined us. Elfpup sleeps in his crate to get some peace I’d say! but joins us for a cuddle if I snooze the alarm. He needed the garden at 3am this morning, and when we went back to bed it’s bloody obvious why I’m so tired these days - spaniel is a perpetual fidget. And has to be touching me at all times, obviously. Argh!!! In bedroom on dog beds is nice - you can wake up, listen to snoring, and know all is well without shifting. Aged dog used to wake me if anyone needed to go outside, but nowadays he’s a bit deaf and an even heavier sleeper than me. Elfpup asks for himself, and the awful spaniel dances across my head on the way to the back door, so we usually make it in time.
