Can we have a mongrel thread?? A proper mixed ddog?? Not a make believe new fangled 'breed' created to get a bit of this and a bit of that!!
I want to see MONGRELS!!
Like back in the day when you could never figure how what you actually owned!! Obviously no random caught in a garden mixes now but there must be some tatty unknown Smelly Bills out there!!
I actually have a ddog that is 3 breeds and the breeder was quite specific in her description.. But surely 3 breeds =mongrel right?
*Lighthearted thread...

Interesting reading, I thought darwinsark.org/what-is-a-dog-breed/

“GSD in there somewhere...head tilt and eyes! Ear prick too!”

“I can see lab in the face and head shape but the ears say German shepherd to me”

GSD x is a common guess, the ear/s definitely suggest something like that in there somewhere, lol

He’s also a bit guardy of the house and has tried to herd people, so that’s why I think a chunk of something like that anyway if not GSD...

I see no lab at all tbh Smile I mean, obviously nothing can be ruled out, rofl, but his coat is soft, there’s no outer hard layer, just short floof - also he has white patches, they don’t show up in photos, but I think the colour is from something else too and, he leaves half his food and literally the only thing he’ll accept as a reward outside is liver cake, so if there’s any lab in there, it’s well hidden, lol.

Also, his ears, head, body, tail and legs all clearly belong to different sized dogs Grin I do joke quite a lot that he’s clearly made up of spare parts.

His brother looks like him, but black and with a rough coat and his two sisters are his colour, but with long coats. He’s the only one with an upright ear, lol. (They were all in the rescue together)

So assuming they all have the same father, that’s a right mixed bag of genetics there.

This is my boy. Part jrt, part corgi, part wire haired terrier, probably others too.

@waterlego the picture of your dog reminded me a lot of mine, interesting that yours has corgi DNA too!

This is our daft as shit Heinz 57. Street pup found under a car when he was 6 weeks.
Looks like a mini Leonberger - vet reckons part Shep, part Retriever, part Chow and some other ridiculousness thrown in for good measure.

Our wonderful mutt. Like a smaller, chunkier lurcher- 15kg and about collie sized. Was meant to be lab x but I think I'm more lab that she is! Sweetest natured dog I've ever met, super bright, very trainable, fast and athletic.

I’m only here for the gorgeous doggos! For the first time ever, we have a pedigree dog- a retired racing greyhound. Next time, if I don’t have another greyhound, I’d like a podenco or galgo.

They are all gorgeous 😭❤️❤️❤️ I'd take one of these doggies over a pure-breed any day! One day I will adopt my very own!! One day 🤞🏻

HorsdoeuvresInTheGarage · 17/12/2021 00:18

I have a t-shirt with the logo - I just want all the dogs, and this thread is feeding my craving. So many gorgeous mutts! This is my dog, she's 13 now and has recently gone deaf. Her mother was a working border collie but no idea what the dad was. I get asked what breed she is every day.

That's a really unusual looking dog!! I'd want to dna her to check if part yeti 😁
Girliefriendlikespuppies · 18/12/2021 14:05

I always think Jack Russells must get round a lot as so many mixes are part Jack Russell🤣

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 19/12/2021 13:52

My Rommie boy - part JRT, part poodle, part Japanese Chin & part who knows (Embark DNA test). He is so clever & loving. Getting him was best decision of 2021.

@HorsdoeuvresInTheGarage That's one elegant looking lady 😍

Mrsherdwick · 19/12/2021 17:27

I’m Border terrier+border collie+collie+fox hair terrier+whippet. I had my dna done when my human parents got me from dogs trust. This is my 3rd home, I’ve been here 6 years and think I’ve just about trained my humans into my likes/dislikes!!!

Why thank you 😊. Funnily enough the dog minder says she's 'regal' 😄.

DesperateDogDog · 19/12/2021 18:17

Lovely pictures!

PinaGrigio · 19/12/2021 18:44

Heinz 57 owners here too. This is our lad, described by the RSPCA as collie/Akita/husky, but we think he's got some GSD in there judging by his colouring and some of his behaviour. We regularly get asked what mix he is. Someone described him as a collie on steroids and he is indeed pretty big, but we love him nevertheless

I have two Heinz ddogs, we had them DNA tested out if curiosity. They have border terrier, poodle, Lakeland terrier, wheaten terrier and a bit of spaniel in them

Couldn't get them to move for the photos Grin

This is my Heinz dog. Looks like a black Labrador but a few patches of white and very very short legs.😂

They are all so lovely!! Such characters.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 20/12/2021 09:28

Had this one dna tested. 50% Belgian mali , 25% whippet rest is greyhound and Staffie
Daft as a brush , loyal , intelligence is sometime debatable

I love mongrels, enjoying all the photos 😍

I'm curious though why so many on this thread are adopted from Romania rather than from British rescues? Genuine question - I've never owned a dog myself, I'm just interested Smile

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 22/12/2021 17:00

British rescues just wouldn't let us have a dog. Wood Green, Dogs Trust etc did not want us. We did actually get him from a U.K. rescue but they had brought him in from Romania (they rehome from the U.K. and other countries eg Spain and Ireland too)

We thought we were quite good candidates; enclosed garden, no other pets, adult at home, kids secondary age but they all said we needed previous dog experience because the U.K. dogs needing rehoming all have behaviour issues they felt we wouldn't manage. In retrospect they were probably right too. His normal puppy behaviour has been harder to cope with than we bargained for (but look how cute he is)

We had always intended to rehome a U.K. dog and I have some misgivings about whether we are encouraging dog import but I would probably rather do that than encourage breeding. Plus he was cheap as chips despite us donating more than the suggested amount compared to what people pay for puppies.

OneOfTheGrundys · 22/12/2021 17:10

Some breed specific rescues that take uk dogs support the breed internationally too. And, in our case, the occasional funny little passenger comes along for the ride. Ours loves pointy dogs and I think he had a significant part of his life with a galguero as he’s fitted right in with our other hounds.
