Potential puppy farmed 'pure' Daschund

A family friend has, in my opinion, been incredibly foolish.

Having decided she'd like a dachshund puppy, a few short weeks later- she has one. After answering an ad on Gumtree....

When she got the house to view the puppies, the mum wasn't around. The explanation the bloke gave for this was he'd had a few mates round for the World Cup which was disruptive for her so his sister was looking after her for the day Hmm

Anyway, predictably, she fell in love with the puppy, and handed over £900.

Below are pictures of the puppy. So far it seems to have been healthy....but it is NOT a pure Daschund from what I can see (maybe I'm wrong, I'm no sausage excert)

I think I can see Jack Russel in it, anyone see anything else?

I asked her why on earth she went ahead with the end purchase of the puppy when so many things were screaming PUPPY FARM and she said at least she saved it from potentially not a nice life at a puppy farm...which of course is totally stupid but that must be what people think or the whole operation wouldn't keep going!

Irrespective of all the issues around buying the puppy I guess she never got the KC pedigree papers then?

Tiredspice2 · 07/08/2018 11:46

That’s a beautiful puppy, but I really don’t think it’s pure breed, not with those ears!

MsOliphant · 07/08/2018 11:47

She 'has paperwork' but that's all she'll say so not KC stuff I wouldn't think!

Peoplemaynoticeus · 07/08/2018 11:48

Definitely not pure but he is beautiful

FelicityFoxworth · 07/08/2018 11:48

Well it's not a sausage dog that's for sure! Those ears are making me lol though

MsOliphant · 07/08/2018 11:48

Obviously it's a beautiful puppy, very sweet natured too but she's still saying it's a pure Daschund....

I thought they always had floppy ears, I take it she didnt get puppys kc registered papers?

Pinkandproud · 07/08/2018 11:49

Gorgeous - but no not pure breed!

ThePricklySheep · 07/08/2018 11:50

Can you give me a gentle answer as to where the mum would be in a puppy farm situation?

BiteyShark · 07/08/2018 11:51

Well I guess if she is being cagey about the paperwork then perhaps she knows the puppy isn't a pedigree.

I wonder how that stands for pet insurance if you claim it is a pedigree and it isn't (although maybe it isn't a problem as pedigree probably makes it dearer).

twoheaped · 07/08/2018 11:51

Were there any gremlins in the house Grin

Bless, it does look sweet but yes, she's probably been had.
That said, litters of cockerpoo sold for £950, which are essentially mongrels. If people are daft enough to pay mega bucks for a mutt, so be it.

TeddyIsaHe · 07/08/2018 11:55

Definitely not a pure bred pup. They saw her coming, £900! It’s bad because now she doesn’t know the parentage and what potential diseases/illnesses to look out for. I guess you can’t really do a lot, she’s made up her mind.

He’s cute though, those ears!

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 07/08/2018 11:55

Those ears Grin Definitely not pure dachshund (they have long floppy ears). Maybe part bat? Wink

There's one with a very similar set of ears in a Dachshund FB group I'm in, and it's variously described as being "wonky" and a terrier x. That said, my own JRT x Dachshund has much smaller, and floppy ears - and he takes much more after the JRT side of the family. (Can provide a link / photo via PM if you like)

Have you got a photo of the DDog sideways on? It would be interesting to see how long the body actually is!

A fool and their money are easily parted, but you don't need me to tell you that...

MsOliphant · 07/08/2018 11:57

ThePricklySheep I'm not totally sure but if it is a puppy farm I gather the poor mum will be busy getting on with the next litter somewhere Sad

Beautiful dog but with ears like that surely there's chihuahua in there somewhere?!

SporkInTheToaster · 07/08/2018 12:00

They look like corgi ears to me. Not a dachshund face, either. Has your friend ever seen a sausage dog ?!

MsOliphant · 07/08/2018 12:01

This is the best one I have sideways on....she's supposed to be a mini Daschund also but is already almost the same size as an adult mini D...

Id say part dachshund, part jack russell and part chihuahua.

AlonsoTigerHeart · 07/08/2018 12:02

Its got a terriers face

MsOliphant · 07/08/2018 12:03

When it was a wee puppy I think it was much harder to tell...then within weeks it's grown those ears and taken on the shap of about three different dog breeds 😬

OP posts:
HomeOfMyOwn · 07/08/2018 12:03

Those ears are ludicrously big in comparison to the pup!

That's no dachshund but I believe properly bred pedigree dachshunds are over 2k at the moment. That's probably the real reason she bought that one.

Also by buying one puppy farmed dog "to save it" you condemn many more to be bred like it and many more bitches to be repeatedly bred until they are of no use and disposed of.

SporkInTheToaster · 07/08/2018 12:03

That’s a right old Heinz 57 special. Largely terrier though, by the look of the recent set of pics.

HomeOfMyOwn · 07/08/2018 12:04

Pedigree mini dachshunds are 2.5k atm.

Glowbug59 · 07/08/2018 12:04

Gremlin Grin

MsOliphant · 07/08/2018 12:06

Funny, because when she bought the puppy, the man said he was happy to sell at under the market value because he 'wasn't in it for profit'!
