Potential puppy farmed 'pure' Daschund

A family friend has, in my opinion, been incredibly foolish.

Having decided she'd like a dachshund puppy, a few short weeks later- she has one. After answering an ad on Gumtree....

When she got the house to view the puppies, the mum wasn't around. The explanation the bloke gave for this was he'd had a few mates round for the World Cup which was disruptive for her so his sister was looking after her for the day Hmm

Anyway, predictably, she fell in love with the puppy, and handed over £900.

Below are pictures of the puppy. So far it seems to have been healthy....but it is NOT a pure Daschund from what I can see (maybe I'm wrong, I'm no sausage excert)

I think I can see Jack Russel in it, anyone see anything else?

I asked her why on earth she went ahead with the end purchase of the puppy when so many things were screaming PUPPY FARM and she said at least she saved it from potentially not a nice life at a puppy farm...which of course is totally stupid but that must be what people think or the whole operation wouldn't keep going!

I hope this woman took it to the vet to be checked and be vaccinated she is just encouraging cruelty. I hope is does not die early - many of them do after a week or so.

Seekingaslapbabktoreality · 07/08/2018 12:07

Aw those ears Grin he is adorable. But no definitely not a pure breed.
We have a yorkie Russel. He has huge ears in comparison to his head. I'd say there's definitely terrier in him. His little feet look like jack russell feet.

He's such a cutie though.

IdaDown · 07/08/2018 12:08

PricklySheep
At best, the bitch is in someone’s house. But let’s be realistic, pregnant in a shed somewhere. Plastic bed, concrete floor, not walked, no vet care, constant pregnancies till health fucked. Doesn’t have to even be in this country. No exaggeration.

With any luck the mum will end up in a rescue.

£900! Nice little (undeclared) earner.

‘Designer’ puppies are the new (fake) handbags. People don’t care where they come from, as long as they have one. Commodities.

ineedtostopbeingsolazy · 07/08/2018 12:12

Very cute but not a dachshund at all. Mixed with a terrier.
Yes she was foolish but the puppy's there now and presumably she loves it so what can you do.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 07/08/2018 12:13

The latest picture you've posted does make the dog look more JRT ish. I had thought from the original photos that the ears were permanently up!

Mini dachshund? Bollocks is it! Heinz 57 is more likely. She's been had. If you want to be slightly passive aggressive, give her one of those dog DNA tests for Christmas Grin

Part of me wonders if half the reason mum wasn't available for viewing is that she clearly wasn't a dachshund herself. The other half will, no doubt, be that she's stuck in some hell hole churning out litter after litter.

dachshundbreedcouncil.wordpress.com/buying-a-dachshund/

There is a picture of a puppy on here (along with lots of useful info if you are going to get one).

They really do like a good walk. They are not handbags Sad

adaline · 07/08/2018 12:18

Gorgeous pup, but definitely not a Dachshund!

HomeOfMyOwn · 07/08/2018 12:23

he was happy to sell at under the market value because he 'wasn't in it for profit'!

What utter rubbish! 900 is a profit, it's just a smaller profit than pure dachshunds because no-one with common sense and a conscience would pay for such a blatant puppy farmed bitch. so the relatively cheap price is to tempt those who just want a cute doggy now regardless of how it was bred or conditions poor mum is kept in.

Sheep sadly mum is probably in too bad a condition to be seen and will have had no socialisation. She has probably never left her concrete cage (with some wood shavings to act as bed and to absorb urine - if she is lucky she may have a hard plastic bed). She will probably never even have been brushed. Once she is physically unable to carry another litter, she will be dumped and hopefully found by a charity who can try to make the rest of her short life as happy and comfortable as possible.

The "best" puppy farm dealers use a stunt bitch who is never bred from and is there solely to look pretty.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 07/08/2018 12:25

FWIW she will need to prepare herself to give the dog more exercise than she had originally bargained for. My own JRT x Dachshund needs 2 hours per day, minimum, or you will live to regret it. 3 hours is very easily doable. I've only ever "broken" him after 6-7 hours in a busy dog-heavy environment (he fell asleep while still sitting up on the bus home).

He went through four post-breeder owners before he was 2 because no one seemed to grasp that a lack of exercise was at the root of almost all his problems.

Obviously all the stuff about not over-exercising puppies still stands... but only for so long. He will grow.

HomeOfMyOwn · 07/08/2018 12:25

blatant puppy farmed pup* - not bitch - my mind was on the poor mother.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 07/08/2018 12:25

The ears say Chihuahua, I say this as someone who has a bat looking chi!

crazycatgal · 07/08/2018 12:40

The pup is very cute but looks like a mix of 3 different things to me. Has your friend even seen a dachshund before? Surely she can see that it isn't one.

MsOliphant · 07/08/2018 12:54

I can definitely see chihuahua and corgi now it's been mentioned....

Hmmmm I think she must know it's not a mini D but is vehemently in denial.

Floralnomad · 07/08/2018 13:06

He could fly with those ears ! Gorgeous little chap whatever he is .

HomeOfMyOwn · 07/08/2018 15:25

I'm glad others thought Chi too. I thought I was alone in that thought (and the only chi I know wasn't bought from the most reputable breeder, so I was unsure how much fruit bat ears were normal chi).

ChocoholicsAsylum · 07/08/2018 15:34

I just googled a dachshund and that my friend is not one! Deffo crossed and not pure. Im seeing alot of greedy lying breeders and wish they were cracked down on... disgusting.

MsOliphant · 07/08/2018 15:34

I wonder what the mum was then. She didn't see the dad either so who knows.

Ripped off but hopefully the dog is healthy...

I'm wondering if it's worth reporting the place? Do you think the RSPCA would do anything? They've been useless in my experience before though. If a dog has food and water that seems to be good enough for them.

Might be a Trading Standards thing. It's the canine equivalent of telling someone you're selling them a freezer and actually handing over a fridge. Trades Descriptions Act etc.

Mind, your friend would have to first accept that that ain't a Dachshund.

adoggymama · 07/08/2018 15:40

Deffo not pure with those ears! Still cute though

Thebluedog · 07/08/2018 15:44

She can get it dna tested. Order a kit online (about 30 quid) send off and the results are back within 2 weeks.

I was curious about mine, I know he’s a mongrel, turned out he was border terrier/poodle/Lakeland terrier/ spaniel Grin

BiteyShark · 07/08/2018 15:45

Do you think your friend is just embarrassed to admit it isn't a pedigree to you or do you think she is saying it to everyone?

She is going to look a bit of an idiot though if she continues to say that if it is really obvious that it's crossbreed. I can imagine her vet going Confused

SpaceDinosaur · 07/08/2018 15:58

Please tell me the puppy's called Dumbo?!! 😍

liz70 · 07/08/2018 16:04

Does your friend want to borrow my glasses? Pedigree Dachsund my arse. He sure saw your friend coming; £900? Shock I've just paid £600 for our purebred whippet with 5 generation pedigree. Some people really are gullible.

liz70 · 07/08/2018 16:07

*dachshund

Syfychannel · 07/08/2018 16:10

Yes report to the RSPCA that you suspect a puppy farm and they will check that out.
She is lucky if the puppy is healthy and well. Have her take it to the vet fora check up and ask what they think about the breed.
