I'm a bit nervous.....

Hoppinggreen · 19/09/2016 19:07

They're worth the mud and hair and slobber ( mostly)
When DD comes home from school Bertie won't leave her alone until she's showered his ears with kisses and if DS cries he pins him down and licks his ears until he starts laughing!!

jigster01 · 19/09/2016 19:07

I'll be honest ..I didn't want a dog and certainly would not have chosen to get one (for all the reasons everyone says) but was outvoted by 5 men in the house!!!! Now he is my fifth son !!! No matter what, you will fall crazily in love with her and would not want to be without her !! I use to pull a funny face when people use to describe the love they have for their dogs and now I feel exactly the same ....love him !!!!

Goingtobeawesome · 19/09/2016 19:09

I love her already. Just apprehensive about whether I'll be a good enough puppy mummy.

Oh Jess is so sweet, gtbawesome.

As are all these dogs.

Though as the owner of a non-malting breed (and no, not a poodle-cross, I promise!) I'm a bit stressed by how much vaccuuming you must all have to do!

Goingtobeawesome · 19/09/2016 19:49

We haven't hoovered since we've had her yet, though the only noise that seemed to scare her was the police siren.

Hoppinggreen · 19/09/2016 19:54

We have all wooden floors so the fur seems to collect in piles and I pick it up.
Quite a bit of mud and water though, he seems to soak it up like a sponge and then release it when he gets home.
I've had Goldies since I was 8 and they are the only dog for me.

jigster01 · 19/09/2016 20:43

Actually I will ask while here .....do Goldie's or any other dog for that matter ,malt (?) more so at a particular time ..mine has fur all over the place atm and we brush daily ..it's everywhere ?

averylongtimeago · 19/09/2016 21:53

The question is : do retriever shed? Hahahahaha
My two can fill a dyson in one day. You will need a good hover!
Looking back, some seemed to have two big moults per year, with low level shedding between. The current pair just seem to lose fur all the time but a bit more spring and Autumn. I think some breeds do shed less, but have always had goodies.

Findmuckery · 19/09/2016 21:53

My Goldie is a prolific moulter. I vacuum once or twice a day. I'm very thrilled with my Vax cordless vacuum cleaner that has a light on it which shows up all the hairs on my wooden floors (it doesn't take much to thrill me these days luckily)

Having her is like having a newborn human baby. So stressful. DH has taken three days off work, though the third is for something else, and we are like a tag team. I used to get in my dressing gown 6-7pm and hope to head for bed 9.30......not any more! Going to bed as late as possible and at the moment DH getting up to her once though last night she went all night without a wee. Actually same the night before but DH took too long and she went on the floor.

Fished out a stone today and yesterday. She had kept it in her mouth hidden and it took a couple of goes to get out. DH is mowing the lawn when he gets back so we can see what's hiding.

First trip to the vet tomorrow Sad.

Fun and games !! Mine still likes to "chew" big stones ...he was chewing on something crunchy last night and I went to take it out and then I remembered my son said he once had a snail in his mouth ! So I let him have that one . Yuck !!!

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 20/09/2016 09:38

Don't let them eat snails...they can carry Heartworm, I think it is....a Very Bad Thing.

GRet is the only guide dog type we haven't had! ...Might put in a request when we go back to it! They always seem so noble!

Goingtobeawesome · 20/09/2016 11:28

We've just introduced her to the lawn mower. Bit scared. Then braver. Then scared. Then okay. Then the recycling men arrived so we watched through the window. They were quiet but she was fine. She's more bothered by her new ID tag on her collar at the moment. We were going to hoover today but think we'll wait until tomorrow. Don't know if it's a bit mean to do too many new things.

Awwww.... Big cuddles to Jess. She is super duper cute! OP the first few days are usually very stressful. Hang in there and you will be an amazing puppy mummy in no time!

Goingtobeawesome · 20/09/2016 18:42

I'm feeling more confident and she's definitely bonded with me. Cries when I leave the room sometimes and shouted when I shut the door to let the cat in and she could see me through the glass. I think the shouting was excitement at the cat. Funnily enough the cat didn't want to come in then.

OP posts:
Goingtobeawesome · 21/09/2016 07:35

I think she's blinded too well Grin. Up about 4am. DH couldn't settle her so I came down. Took about ten minutes and a couple of attempts but she gave us another hour. She doesn't like it when I leave the room and have to shut the door and if the door is open will soon come looking for me.

Just had to talk down my cat from a tree as tall as my house. Not sure if he was after a bird or ran at Jess' bark.

Vet today for her first jabs. I will be home with her for an hour then have to go out for a couple but DH will be home before me.
