Grin that is brilliant! Poor cat. Good luck at the vets'. Mine refused to leave the vet and wanted to go live with her.

I better watch for that as my vet is lovely.

I always click on these threads hoping it is a golden retriever!
As all the other Goldie parents have said , they are the best best dogs in the world!
I have two beautiful boys and could not imagine life without them. Make the most of every minute when they are small as they grow at an amazing rate.
Wishing you many years off happiness with your beautiful girl.

She did so well at the vet. Didn't bat an eyelid at a massive Alsatian coming out of the room or that a cat and dog had arrived while she was being seen.

She's such a fast learner. She's coming and sitting on demand more times than not. Doing well with using the puppy pad and going in the garden. She's adorable.

Would love some advice please. Suggested we leave her at night but DH went to her the first night as she'd only been here since teatime. The first two nights we got up once. The last two were harder and last night DH got up to her about six times. The DC are not impressed. Comments about neighbour's complaining and how tired they are. Potentially going to PIL to sleep tomorrow if it's suggested we leave her without going to her. Unfortunately she wakes when the cat comes in and of course is excited and wants to play. For good measure the cat then goes to the patio door to make sure Jess has heard herHmmGrin.

She's eight weeks 3 days and has been with us since Saturday teatime. Can anyone help us to help her sleep through or at least not get so upset when she does wake and to be able to go back off to sleep please?

If you wake up and go to let her out for a wee, make no eye contact or pet/play. Let her out and as soon as she is done back to bed. Don't go just to check on her because that becomes a routine.

Clueless about the cat situation. Someone with a cat should be able to help you.

She's not wanting a wee. She wants company.

Just had her out for a play and the cat stayed, turned his back on her though Sad.

I didn't agree with DH going to her every night but he's soft and she's loud!

I don't know if what we did with our puppy was right.

It seemed to work, but maybe we just got lucky.

We played with her all evening. Mainly with crumpled up newspaper and a cardboard box, which she loved. Until she was tired out.
Then only went to bed after she started to seem pretty tired. That was variable to start with but soon became about 10pm. We then settled her down for bed, tucking her in with a few cuddly toys that she liked.

She didn't then wake up and cry much, but if she did we came down, let her out for a wee (whether we thought that was what she wanted or not), minimum contact and words. Tucked her back in with cuddled and went back to bed.
Then we took it in turns to get up at 5AM to let her out for another wee and have a big, fun play.

We let her sleep til 8 then give her lots of fuss and play but she wants to sleep. We used to to bed earlier but are putting her to bed at 10 as we feel if she went earlier she'd be up for the day earlier. Interestingly she goes out and does a week but was happy to wait for her breakfast and had a nap I between us getting up to take her out and eating. She goes all night without needing a wee.

We haven't been giving her any toys at bed time as we though we weren't meant to but will try that.

She's had 2-3 trips out to play and has been sleeping for an hour or so with small wake ups.

She's currently asleep. Hasn't had lunch yet. I'm sure she'd eat it if I woke her but should I wait until she asks? She doesn't really though.

I fed 3x a day at the same time every day. Helps with building a routine and them then being tired at the same time.

Goingtobeawesome · 22/09/2016 14:38

I'll stop waiting for her to ask then as she can't as she was asleep Grin. She has just had an hour meeting the neighbour's dog and had a mad time running around so no wonder she's asleep now!

Need to get a clicker but she's a very fast learner so I hope she learns to stop eating everything she finds. Fishes out leaves, hay, grass, feathers, stones, moss so far..

She comes and sits on demand. Tries to wait/stay but too excited!

I told DH he wasn't to go to Jess if she cried. She woke twice but wasn't as loud as the night before and settled herself pretty quickly. Good girl Smile

DH is perfect to train at the moment..

Ok. I need help please. Today she has learnt leave, wait and paw. Not 100% of course but has made an excellent start given her age but she's almost too good. I'm using a clicker and then treat when she does it and I'm worried she'll get fat. I'm trying to alternate between a treat and a big fuss and play but she knows what the clicker means and she knows where the treats hang from my jeans Grin.

I'm cross with myself as she did a wee outside then two one after the other inside but I just cleaned it up. Should have stayed out but she'd done one and was being a pickle so brought her in. Is that just bad luck and not anything I could have known? And also if she's being a monkey aka as a puppy, is it right to bring her in or should I just keep trying to distract her?

She's also started biting her lead and then growling when I try and get it out. I know she's not being naughty but I need to react in the right way as to not make her a naughty dog. Trying to remember to yelp when she bites but don't always succeed Grin.

I've got a golden mix. She used to eat everything she could get her mouth around. I played Puppy Zen with her a whole bunch to teach her impulse control. This changed our lives! (end hyperbole)

Re the biting - it does calm down - Rosie used to chew everything but grew out of it fairly fast. I learnt to have something to thrust into her jaws, but once her baby teeth fell out, she stopped.

Keep going on the house training - she's still little and will have accidents - but just keep calm, keep going outside and she'll get there, until one day you'll realise you haven't had an accident inside for a couple of days....

Oh Rosie. I got a bit teary there as Jess will be that big in about five minutes. She looks very elegant.

She's really doing so well. Only seems to have accidents, except for the one today, when I'm not there and daddy is in charge. Five minutes ago she asked to go out and did a wee ⭐️.

What are your thoughts on the treats? It's so cute when I praise her then she looks at the clicker then the treat bag!

Thank you for the link Wonderflonium. I'll take a look later when DH is here to watch Jess.

My trainer was v big on treats (albeit tiny amounts). If you are really worried about her putting on weight, then weigh the treat allowance and reduce her food accordingly. (I still use treats, they are SO food orientated!).

She's gorgeous - I'm trying to persuade DH that we need another pup...but he's still not really sold on this one, so it's not going to happen any time soon!
