where does your dog sleep?

We are thinking about getting a dog but im not sure where would be best for him to sleep, its either going be in the kitchen or our bedroom. Where does your dog sleep and where do you think is best, im thinking he may settle better in our room but longterm he may be better off going in the kitchen.
I haven't even got him yet and im stressing about where he will sleep!

Mine started out in the kitchen until someone tried to break in through the kitchen window and he refused to go in there again.

Then it progressed to run of the house except our room during the night.

Then he got attacked by a dog and cried all night and DP who is normally very strict felt bad for him and let him in our room.

Now he has a bed in our room, he tends to sleep in it a bit, but sneaks onto our bed. I am often woken by a tuneful chorus of him and DP snoring/farting/twitching. Not usually a problem unless he decides to sleep on the floor (dog not DP) then he wakes me up when he is dreaming because his claws scratch on the floor.

I don't mind him sleeping in with us, it takes away a lot of stress and although he does jump on the bed (big dog) he tends to nick off pretty quick when he realises he hasn't any room.

On the bed. She likes to lie so she is touching me, usually she has her back against my legs. At the moment she is lying across my feet and I'm getting pins and needles! She lasted one night in the kitchen before I brought her up to bed

Dog 1: Started off in the kitchen. Howled for two weeks. We consulted a behaviourist who told us to wait it out and totally ignore the howling. He started biting us when we were putting him in the kitchen. Consulted a 2nd behaviourist who sorted the biting the howling continued. Went back to 2nd behaviourist who suggested a crate near our room. He ate the crate and now sleeps on a pillow on the landing and breaks into our room once we're asleep. The howling has stopped.

Dog 2: Sleeps in a crate, which she adores, in the dining room. Unless it's really windy, raining really heavily or thundering in which case she sleeps in our bed, because she gets scared. She also sleeps in our bed if she is sick or if we have been on holiday and the fosterer who looks after her has gotten her used to sleeping in her bed or if it's too cold or if one of the children wake her by going to the loo in the night, or if....

Short version: They both sleep in our room most of the time

cushion in hall - this has slowly moved closer and closer to front room

both dogs slept in the bedroom either side of the bed up till last week when we discovered they both had flees!
both down stairs now.. house has been steamed, hoovered, and sprayed...
dogs have been bathed, groomed and been given a tablet each... just waiting till we know they have definately gone before they come back up stairs

Started in kitchen but she howled and we caved after about three nights Now she sleeps on a duvet at the foot of our bed (she's much too big to sleep on the bed with us).

The sofas. I'm not letting them share with me, they kick in their sleep!

In our bed obvs 6 sone wolfhound my baby baby babycakes

Mine has now moved up the bed, her head is on my pillow and she's snoring and thumping her tail

he is supposed to sleep outside my bedroom door in his bed, but he sleeps under my bed, hes not allowed in bed but will hide underneath and not come out. Also he drags shoes and other smelly things underneath there....

Looks like he'll probably end up in our room , I'll try him in the kitchen first and see how he goes on but from the look of the replies a dog sleeps where he wants

Try a crate in the kitchen first off, they like a "safe place" & if it's started from the off they get used to it & it's useful for when you have non doggy people round ( sigh yes occasionally they have to come in!) to put the dog away without them feeling banished.

Also useful as a refuge for the poor mutt if you have over loving DC's!

Mine sleeps on an old duvet in the kitchen (officially) but has taken to sleeping on the bottom landing of the stairs so has a smaller cushion/bed there at night too in a vain attempt to keep the hairs off the carpet!!

Dragon dog slept in the consevotory but had full run of downstairs. She only left the conservatory on Xmas eve, when she would sleep in front of the tree and growl if dh went within 3 foot of the presents

Hully pup sleeps in the conservatory in her pen. She has been in from day one with no issues.

Pup is in his crate behind the sofa in the dining room

Zac has downstairs, but sleeps on one of the sofas in the sitting room

Kelly had a bed in our room, he never used to come upstairs, and would sleep with Zac, but suddenly one day decided he'd like to come upstairs. Sometimes he'll nick in with dd and cosy on her bed, but he always ends up in our room.

Dog1 sleeps in ds (9) room, he has a high sleeper (ds not dog!) and has anxiety disorder and this means ds is happy-ish to sleep in his own room.

Dog2 starts the night off in the dressing room usually creeps into our bed about 6am unless its winter and he is cold then he usually spends the whole night on our bed! ( he now has pjs to wear and he stays on his bed a bit longer!)

Dog3 sleeps in the kitchen as she can have possession issues and our bed brings out the worst in her!

Bumble dog started off sleeping in the sitting room. He spent 90% of the night howling and when he wasnt howling i was worrying about what he was doing because he wasnt howling! I started to to resent him for my lack of sleep so he now sleeps/scratches/harumphes/snores in my bed!

Mine is in bed, snoring away head on pillow, under duvet, more room than
His pregnant mum. Try to shift him, he gets very grumpy.
He thinks he's taken over from my ex!
I get up at eight, he'll emerge about a hour later

Usually in his basket in teenage daughter´s room.

Occasionally on his quilt in our room.

Rarely on his cushions in the dining room.

Very rarely in his basket in the sitting room.

Mine sleeps on the floor in our room. He doesn't dare jump on our bed - that is the cats' territory, and he knows not to annoy them during the night.

On his bed (with his own duvet and 3 fleecy blankets) in my DS1's room. He is found - most mornings in bed with DS.

He's a whippet though and they love a snuggle - would be cruel to deprive him.

Mine have gone the other way. They used to sleep in my bed room, but once we got to 3 they were too many and too big, so now they sleep downstairs (have the run of the downstairs). I miss them, but I do get to sleep lying flat for the first time since I was a baby!

Old man dog is starting to come back up to bed with me, but he sleeps on the upstairs settee or on a cushion because he can't climb on the bed any more .
