Send your questions to The Dog Whisperer, Cesar Millan

RachelMumsnet · 20/12/2010 15:53

Great news for all those in The Dog House. We've been given the opportunity to send our canine questions to none other than the Dog Whisperer himself, Cesar Millan. Cesar is over in the UK to promote his forthcoming new series of the UK version of 'The Dog Whisperer' which will be aired in UK on Nat Geo Wild in early February 2011. We'll be filming some members of Mumsnet HQ (plus dogs) putting your questions to Cesar in January and we will be airing the film across the site at the end of January, to coincide with the launch of his new series. To stand a chance of getting your question to Cesar, post them to this thread before end of Tuesday 21st December 2010.

Thank you for that patronising little touch Ruby, but I know the breakdown and background of the words, in both Greek and Latin.

RubyBuckleberry · 22/12/2010 21:49

why can't it be everyman? why does it have to be a pro? there will be plenty of saltoftheearth type people with masses of experience with dogs that find his methods work really well. and like someone on that other thread said, perhaps the outdated ideas are the best ones in this case.

DooinMeCleanin · 22/12/2010 21:50

Because the professionals know what they are talking about and see that Joe Publi cannot. The pros have studied their field extensively and have a far greater knowledge base and more experience than you or I.

There is not a single professional body who is not against the methods CM uses. Does that not tell you anything?

RubyBuckleberry · 22/12/2010 21:51

then why ask for clarification?

of course, you weren't, it was a not very well veiled insult. not particularly pleasant for someone who is meant to be a dog pro.

RubyBuckleberry · 22/12/2010 21:53

It does Dooin, it does. What about international bodies. Not USA or UK. Is this a cultural thing? Should we treat dogs like dogs. In Indonesia for example, dogs have a very different status. I wonder if that makes a difference to the amount of dog attacks etc

RubyBuckleberry · 22/12/2010 21:54

CM is from Mexico isn't he - I bet dogs are treated differently there. I wonder if the dogs treat the people differently too...

DooinMeCleanin · 22/12/2010 21:56

I'm not a dog pro. I'm learning a lot from my own dogs. I have learnt a lot from MN and the posters on here. I have read a lot both online and in actual books. I have learnt a lot from my trainer. But I am not a professional by any means and I know there is still a hell of a lot I do not know yet.

Why ask? Because I am curious as to what makes you a better judge of a dog trainer than someone who has studied canine behaviour and welfare and who has years of experience? I am curious as to why you still blindly believe what he does is good even when you are confronted with clear evidence that it is damaging.

Ponders · 22/12/2010 21:56

This is from an interview with CM:

----------

There's an old joke that the only thing two dog trainers can agree on is that the third one is wrong. Do you believe there are other training methods besides yours that are just as effective?

Absolutely, there are other methods. I'm not the only person who can help people. There are 68 million dogs in America?I can't get to all of them.

So we need all the professionals to help and accomplish the same goal, which is a balanced dog. How you accomplish that is up to you, as long as you use a humane approach.

I'm open for possibilities. I'm open for choices. I always welcome new ideas. I'm always eager to learn. I'm never going to close my mind from learning.

------------

Nice to see that he is a lot more open to others, & has far more humility, than you lot - ganging up on, & bullying, every single poster who dares to contradict you on this thread. You might be professionals but you come across as very unpleasant people. Still, I'm sure you are all very proud of yourselves.

(Good for you for sticking to your guns, Ruby. I gave up)

RubyBuckleberry · 22/12/2010 21:57

'clear evidence that it is damaging'

er, where??

RubyBuckleberry · 22/12/2010 21:59

hi ponders Smile aahhh a breath of fresh air!

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 22/12/2010 21:59

Add me to the list of people who object to CM being invited onto MN. MN shouldn't be used as a vehicle for his ego trips.

Ponders · 22/12/2010 22:00
Smile
VallhalaLalalalalalalalaaaaaa · 22/12/2010 22:00

Ruby International bodies like the World Society for the Protection of Animals, you mean?

Yep, they're one of those who have publicly condemned Millan.

As for Indonesia et al, I could tell you quite a bit but clearly you don't give a shit about dog welfare so I won't bother.

RubyBuckleberry · 22/12/2010 22:00

lolol oh my word, are you 12?

VallhalaLalalalalalalalaaaaaa · 22/12/2010 22:02

That's 36 objectors and counting, thank you MissBee.

Ponders, actually, yes, I'm bloody proud of what I do.

RubyBuckleberry · 22/12/2010 22:03

what do they say?

VallhalaLalalalalalalalaaaaaa · 22/12/2010 22:04

Does anyone have any idea who, or what, she's referring to?

DooinMeCleanin · 22/12/2010 22:04

Have you read any of the links yet? You know where he is slammed by vets for choking dogs half to death? That to me is clear evidence, is it not?

Or is choking a living creature until it displays physical symptoms of being unwell not damaging?

And Ponders if he welcomes new ideas why has he not taken on board the critcisms of his methods and looked at the new research on canine behaviour and changed his training accordingly? Or why has not said "Okay I have read all the new studies and I think it is wrong. See here and here for evidence as to why'? instead of blatently ignoring it and/or setting his lawyers onto anyone who dare challenge him?

Ponders · 22/12/2010 22:04

Oh I'm sorry, Valhalla.

I phrased my post wrongly.

I meant to say

"ganging up on, & bullying, every single poster who dares to contradict you on this thread. Still, I'm sure you are all very proud of yourselves.

You might be professionals but you come across as very unpleasant people."

Hope that's clear Smile

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 22/12/2010 22:04

No, but I've seen your posts elsewhere and have been equally underwhelmed. Smile p/a

stickersarecurrency · 22/12/2010 22:07

Ah Ponders, he says it, therefore it must be fact Hmm. His actions speak louder.

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 22/12/2010 22:07

ruby, mexico also has a rep for treating women like dogs, are you saying that is something we should adopt here?

VallhalaLalalalalalalalaaaaaa · 22/12/2010 22:08

Ponders, I understood you perfectly the first time. My query was about Ruby's "Are you 12?" comment.

RubyBuckleberry · 22/12/2010 22:09

valhalla what do the world society for the protection of animals say about cesar millan

and missbeehiveunderthemistletoe, really, help yourself to a saucer of milk and go and lick your paws with iloveitwhen Hmm

what's p/a

RubyBuckleberry · 22/12/2010 22:10

it was missbeehive that i was asking whether she was 12 for saying things like, 'pointedly ignores ruby'
