Send your questions to The Dog Whisperer, Cesar Millan

Great news for all those in The Dog House. We've been given the opportunity to send our canine questions to none other than the Dog Whisperer himself, Cesar Millan. Cesar is over in the UK to promote his forthcoming new series of the UK version of 'The Dog Whisperer' which will be aired in UK on Nat Geo Wild in early February 2011. We'll be filming some members of Mumsnet HQ (plus dogs) putting your questions to Cesar in January and we will be airing the film across the site at the end of January, to coincide with the launch of his new series. To stand a chance of getting your question to Cesar, post them to this thread before end of Tuesday 21st December 2010.

Yes. 'The Last Days of Socrates'.

Written by Plato

Having drunk the hemlock, Socrates' writing abilities were a little, um, curtailed Grin

Bella32 · 22/12/2010 20:59

You see, I studied moral philosophy. Right and wrong. Ethics and stuff.... Wink

RubyBuckleberry · 22/12/2010 21:02

Hmm Hmm

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 22/12/2010 21:03

that'll be a no then?

stickersarecurrency · 22/12/2010 21:05

Ruby, I've pulled you up before now for promoting Millan's methods on here and it's always been obvious that you've little experience of canine behaviour and you're quite suggestible. If you're educated enough to have taught others then perhaps your could consider educating yourself on the subject before taking a stance.

RubyBuckleberry · 22/12/2010 21:06

what'll be a no?

midori1999 · 22/12/2010 21:08

Ruby, how do you know CM has helped 'plenty' of dogs? Because you've seen it on TV?

And you haven't bothered to answer whether you think the things CM does that I have listed are humane. Is that because it's obvious they are not but to agree they are not would seriously damage your already flimsy arguement?

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 22/12/2010 21:12

it'll be no promise to never own a dog?

ok, what about this, promise that if you ever do own a dog you let it live somewhere else and be trained by someone else?

BookcaseFullofBooks · 22/12/2010 21:14

Sorry, I'm sure it's wisest is he who knows he does not know.

Been following the thread and am quite honestly shocked that dh and I were impressed by him. When our ridgeback was a puppy, thinking we were doing the right thing according to dominance theory and on the advice of his breeder, we alpha rolled him fairly regularly. I really am embarrassed by that now because it would be an utterly impractical and dangerous thing to attempt now, given his huge size.

Fortunately, we stopped doing it early on and went to a trainer who taught us to use a clicker and rewards. We found it a very effective method and much more logical than the alternative. We still can't take him off his lead in the local park because he would just run amok and not come back to us but perhaps I should start a thread in the doghouse about that.

RubyBuckleberry · 22/12/2010 21:17

there are plenty of people that will testify that cesar millan has helped them and therefore their dog. that is just so obvious Confused. i don't really have a big old 'argument'. i just appreciate that he has helped a lot of people and made a difference to alot of dogs. are his methods humane? well, that is the million dollar question.

RubyBuckleberry · 22/12/2010 21:18

iloveitwhenyoucallmeboo ok i promise Hmm

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 22/12/2010 21:19

you are funny ruby.

midori1999 · 22/12/2010 21:22

What people, where are they? You are assuming a lot.

As has been demonstarted on this thread, by people with experience of dogs (something you don't have) and by people (including major organisations such as the BVA, RSPCA etc) who have experience of dogs ruined of seriously damaged by CM's methods and people chosing to use them (again, something you don't have experience of) CM causes more harm than he does good.

Bella32 · 22/12/2010 21:29

I may well have misquoted Plato. It was a loooong time ago and I wasn't very impressed by philosophy. Bit too airy fairy for me. I prefer hard facts. Like all the links on here Xmas Wink

RubyBuckleberry · 22/12/2010 21:29

isn't that a bit like 'it is the individual not the drug.' cm makes it clear that some of his methods are not to be used by a non-professional.

i'm not really assuming. come on. take a look around. he has so many fans and advocates and they all say, 'omg the minute i started using his methods, it all changed.'

'as has been demonstrated on this thread...' wake up and smell the coffee dude - lots of people with lots of experience with dogs disagree with you. outside of this little bubble of a thread.

RubyBuckleberry · 22/12/2010 21:35

it was plato writing about it, yes. but it is arguably the cornerstone of socratic thought - it is hardly appropriate to credit plato with his teacher's ideas just because he wrote it all down. but its not quite what socrates said verbatim anyway but that is something else entirely...

RubyBuckleberry · 22/12/2010 21:35

but but but

ILoveItWhenYouCallMeBoo · 22/12/2010 21:36

splitting hairs anyone?

RubyBuckleberry · 22/12/2010 21:37

MNHQ why has the little thing gone from the side and is cesar millan gonna come and defend himself?

VallhalaLalalalalalalalaaaaaa · 22/12/2010 21:39

Isn't philosophy supposed to be the study of life's problems through rational argument?

Because if so, I'm almost as glad that you're not likely to teach my DDs as I am that you don't own a dog.

RubyBuckleberry · 22/12/2010 21:40

omg we need star wars music, vallhalalalalalalalalaaaaaaaaaaaaaa is back

RubyBuckleberry · 22/12/2010 21:41

lol you never know.

RubyBuckleberry · 22/12/2010 21:41

philo = love of
sophos = wisdom

its really about how to live one's life

stickersarecurrency · 22/12/2010 21:42

"the minute I started using his methods"

Ruby, any dog owner will see improvements if all they needed was someone to tell them that dogs are not little humans in fur coats. But many problems are far more complex and demand much deeper understanding of how dogs are, rather than how they aren't.

DooinMeCleanin · 22/12/2010 21:44

'he has so many fans and advocates and they all say, 'omg the minute i started using his methods, it all changed.' - okay then, if there are so many fans find me one who belongs to a professional body related to the welfare of dogs.
