Apparently it's starting soon! Sad that our Cassie isn't in it anymore (RIP) but we've still got Sunny.
It's one of my favourite TV shows. I now feel the need to binge the first four series again.

Yes he did. It was ridiculous 🙄

I got lost at the half brother part. Also, didn’t Jay tell his grandmother that he lied to the police, that his mother shot the half brother and then she turned the gun on to herself (or am I making this up?).

He did say that. In the last couple of minutes, that's why I thought Hume had done it.

CaptainMyCaptain · 06/03/2023 07:50

It wasn't as good as the other Series.

Violetparis · 06/03/2023 07:59

I really enjoyed this and liked the characters of Jess and her mother.

CaptainMyCaptain · 06/03/2023 08:47

I think Jess turned out to be OK and will have a good working relationship with Sunny. I liked the scene when they opened up to each other about their troubles.

CampervanKween · 06/03/2023 10:26

I like all the team, Jess I think will be fine. I just thought the story was a mess this time sadly. Am gutted as this is one of my favourite programmes of all time. I cried and cried when they killed Cassie off. Bastards. Could have given her a happy ending with the possibility of a return.

redundantsoon · 06/03/2023 11:36

It was very watchable- as always - but I thought it was the weakest series too. By the end, I didn’t particularly care who did it!

The upskirting stuff was weird too.

Yes. The upskirting seemed to be added in as an irrelevant extra. It had no bearing on the case and wasn't even an interesting red herring.

CampervanKween · 06/03/2023 13:13

No. That was so wierd and the whole character arc of that guy completely odd and unbelievable. What even happened to him in the end?

ScrambledSmegs · 06/03/2023 19:08

Oh good, I was worried I would be on my own with feeling really frustrated with the last episode. It felt really like we were being lectured all the way through on rich white men = evil and then they leave it with Jay was lying? And the guy is dying anyway so highly unlikely to make it to trial.

And Karol - I could barely watch his scenes, he was so creepy and they had proof of the upskirting. But nothing happened?

I've been mulling it over all weekend and I'm still annoyed. Too many unsatisfying story arcs.

CampervanKween · 06/03/2023 20:23

Yes really disappointing as the other series weren't like this. They were really well plotted with rounded flawed characters who you could really relate to. This was cliché after cliché. It was embarrassing. Even the music was naff.

Xrays · 06/03/2023 20:47

I got so annoyed with the last episode I turned it off with 19 mins to go…! 😆 Just so confusing and boring!

Reminders50 · 06/03/2023 22:28

i miss Cassie.
I agree that the storyline and additional plot threads weren’t ideal.
But mainly I was annoyed and distracted by the black sleeveless jumper that Jess wore in every scene apart from 1!! She had loads of outfits but wore that jumper every bloody time.

VivaDixie · 07/03/2023 12:44

I also felt really 'meh' at the ending. I was cross really as if they wanted to make a point about nasty tories (which is a fair point to make) they could have left it that Hume did kill Joseph and get his come-uppance and that he was a nasty piece of work.

Instead they have perpetuated the idea that my parents totally subscribe to that the poor lower classes are lazy and just stitching up the rich white men. I was quite cross about that as the Daily Heil lot my parents will be frothing at this storyline.

Also at the beginning - they had the young boy and his mother in their council flat being offered money by Hume - they had a huge tv and a beautiful home - NOT saying that they shouldn't but again this is giving the Daily Heil lot more to rant about.

They could have made this point so much better but it was clumsy in my opinion.

Interesting how they had him lecturing his 16yo grandson about rape when he was guilty of the same thing - although I felt that was a point of his regret

Oh that sleeveless top with different blouses underneath! I am 10 years older than her character and I ditched that look in 1997!

CampervanKween · 07/03/2023 15:59

Yes that was totally what I wore to the office in the 90s 😄 down to the bootcut trousers.

To be fair, they didn't want his money and didn't know why he'd come.

Yes this is true. I just know my parents the right wing fans of the show would rant about it.

As an aside I recognise the boy's mother actor from somewhere. It was bugging me and I forgot to check the credits

Clioma · 07/03/2023 21:35

Annoying writing with rich white Tory bad etc. They were happy to take his money though. But I loved the character of Jessie. A welcome change - I find Nicola Walker's acting irritating with all the long stares and pauses

Djangor3725 · 08/03/2023 17:58

Lost the plot on this series & no way am I going to rewatch any of it. Liked Jess & the police team but failed to see the point of Karol, apart from giving him various speeches about underfunding & overworking social services in order to somehow justify horrible invasion of womens' privacy plus blatant theft, and Bele was just tiresome. Who was the father of Precious? Didn't quite grasp why Tony Hulme was responsible for everything when Bele's grandfather (?) had poured a bottle of vodka down her to try & get her to miscarry & was it her foster parents or her grandparents who were vile to her & told her she had shamed them by getting pregnant. Then Precious was groomed & possibly raped herself - evidently that was Tony Hulme's fault as well.

Tiggernpoo · 09/03/2023 09:16

So disappointing - loved it all until the final episode. Lazy “on trend” stereotypes….but to be honest I think this is what the majority of tv is like at the moment. So annoying to be able to reliably predict the plot whenever they introduce the “rich white Tory man”…..

Xrays · 09/03/2023 09:23

Little bit off topic but has anyone been watching the new series of The Bay? Don’t want to post spoilers but so many parallels between that and this season of unforgotten! 😳 Almost like they’ve copied and pasted except with a Muslim family at the centre of it all rather than Bele etc. I admit I’m only half way through and so may change my mind but I’m almost laughing it’s so similar……! (Even down to the new female character having issues at home and trying to take over from the previous liked one)!

fluffiphlox · 09/03/2023 09:25

i thought it was disappointing and the last episode was an anti climax.

RobertsRadio · 09/03/2023 09:38

Watched this latest series a couple of days ago. Was so excited as loved all the previous series although gutted when Cassie died, especially when she had just found love with the Laird of Glenbogle.

Was so disappointed in this series and came on here to see if it was just me, but I see that I'm not alone. It was all so horribly convoluted and so totally unbelievable that it bordered on farce at times. I warmed to Jessie at the end, but I really, really don't buy Sunny not accepting a promotion to DCI and heading up the team. All in all really lazy, cliched and totally unsympathetic characters; I didn't give a shit about any of them by the end and WTF was the point of Karol.

I will just have to re-watch series 1-4 for decent and believable storylines. I can't believe they have ruined one of my favourite series of all times, feel bereft.

CampervanKween · 09/03/2023 11:27

I feel exactly the same. Was my favourite series until this season. I agree it was farcical at times.

Everything seems to be being ruined and dumbed down at the moment. Sad state of affairs.
