New 3 episode drama. Yes it will all be on itvx

no I don’t want bingers on this thread 😂

tv pace only

Maryland is a new three-part drama series which brings together Suranne Jones (Vigil (https://www.bt.com/tv/drama/vigil-season-2-bbc-cast-release-date-plot-trailer), Doctor Foster) and Eve Best (House of the Dragon (https://www.bt.com/tv/drama/house-of-the-dragon-season-2-release-date-timeline-news)) as sisters reunited in tragic circumstances.
Created by Anne-Marie O’Connor (Trollied, Hullraisers), the drama has been described as a story that "beautifully reveals the complexities of a sisterly relationship" after they uncover their mother’s secrets and l
ies.

O’Connor said the series was "a love story about two sisters", which explores the story of woman who steps away from the traditional roles we assign in families.

Maryland is the story of Becca and Rosaline, two sisters who have grown apart because of complex family dynamics and their careers.

However, when the body of an older woman found on Laxey Beach in the Isle of Man is revealed to be their mum, the sisters are reunited.

On top of mother Mary's death, the sisters discover she has been living a double life, leaving their father at home in Manchester to create another world… Maryland.

Confined to the island, the sisters can't escape the ripple effect of their mother's secrets and lies.

Suranne Jones said: "Maryland delves into family dynamics and the way in which we ‘label’ each other, sometimes never letting ourselves or our siblings break free from those roles.

"We look at how we grow apart from one another and how sometimes we don’t really know anything about the people we call our own.

"I love how complex sibling relationships can be and I'm thrilled we get to do it over three wonderful hours and not as a 'side story'.

"Maryland is an uncomfortable, funny and sometimes difficult story with two sisters at its heart and we can’t wait to take our audience along for the ride."

I've had breast cancer too but I don't think it's a big part of the story @Just2again as there's only one episode left , I think it was just to say how different the sisters were in what they talked/kept quiet about .

I'm not sure if Cathy gave the bottle of morphine to Mary as she was searching for it in the bathroom but she probably guessed she had taken it .

Just2again · 24/05/2023 13:08

Thank you both, I might give it another go. I wish script writers would get out of their lazy habits of using cancer as a part of entertainment, it affects so many people who could do without being reminded of it whilst trying to switch off.

diddl · 24/05/2023 13:22

I'm quite enjoying it.

How they see things differently.

I'm not particularly a SJ fan though so I didn't feel especially sorry for her when she said she(Spoiler from last night)

had to stay home to look after her mum😊

Love the taxi driver!

midsomermurderess · 24/05/2023 15:29

Possibly writers talk about cancer because it is now such a part of so many people’s lives, something much more openly talked about that it once was. I don’t think it is lazily used as entertainment.

Twonewcats · 24/05/2023 16:50

Those of you who don't like SJ - what don't you like about her?

Twonewcats · 24/05/2023 16:52

I've also never seen the sister before ever. I feel mean for thinking it, but at the very start I thought she was playing SJ's mum 😬

ThePoshUns · 24/05/2023 17:06

I'm off work today so gave in and watched ep3. a satisfying ending for once. Enjoy all.

Finding it rather ploddy but am going to preserve and watch episode 3 later in the hope that something actually exciting happens.

Jellykat · 24/05/2023 19:47

Thank you for bunging me on the list Blondes, i can play with the big gals now Grin
I enjoyed ep 2 last night, lots uncovered i wasnt expecting!

determinedtomakethiswork · 24/05/2023 20:40

I thought this part had a lot of potential but it was just bloody bonkers really. So the mum told people she went to stay in a caravan in Wales with Maureen, yet really she was in the Isle of Man with a whole new set of deep friendships and a lover and a home of her own. I'm not sure how most people could get away with that. Just the airfare to the Isle of Man would have been expensive if she was a pensioner. There was nothing to show they had a lot of money.

Ultimately, I felt she was absolutely selfish. She inherited a lovely home and she discovered her birth mum wasn't the woman who brought her up yet she didn't share that with anybody. She even discovered she had Alzheimer's and didn't tell her own daughter.

I thought this had so much potential, but it just became silly.

Agreed

WGACA · 24/05/2023 21:21

It’s too far fetched but yet I can’t stop watching it.

Jellykat · 24/05/2023 21:24

Highly irritated that older sis looks about 60, wrong person in the role imo

rockingbird · 24/05/2023 21:35

All I'm hoping is the older sister stays in the house and lives happily ever after with the taxi man 😆

SgtCatherineCawood · 24/05/2023 21:39

We are watching last nights now and am reading the thread from last night in time with it 🤣

I noticed a few mentions of the taxi driver. Had to google it as I recognised his voice. Never would have guessed it was Dean Lennox Kelly!

Jellykat · 24/05/2023 21:41

Hope older sis does too!
Meanwhile the letter dad was reading before he caught the plane, was from mum wasnt it..

the80sweregreat · 24/05/2023 21:59

The taxi driver is lush.
It's a bonkers script.
Seeing Rizzo was fun though , an elderly drug dealer. Different!

Jellykat · 24/05/2023 22:03

Well, that was all a bit of an anti climax, hey ho

WGACA · 24/05/2023 22:03

It’s been actually worth it for the ending. I had a little cry at the end.

Jellykat · 24/05/2023 22:08

Looks like there'll be more. Radio times has it listed as season 1, so presume there'll be a season 2 at some point.

Elderflower14 · 24/05/2023 22:10

Very disappointed thought the ending wouid be more excited than that!

rockingbird · 24/05/2023 22:11

Aww I liked it, I knew she'd end up staying.. ☺️

Romeiswheretheheartis · 24/05/2023 22:11

I looked up their ages - Suranne Jones is 44, Eve Best is 51, so not too far apart to realistically be sisters. Dean Lennox Kelly is only 47, I thought he looked older than that.
