New 3 episode drama. Yes it will all be on itvx

no I don’t want bingers on this thread 😂

tv pace only

Maryland is a new three-part drama series which brings together Suranne Jones (Vigil (https://www.bt.com/tv/drama/vigil-season-2-bbc-cast-release-date-plot-trailer), Doctor Foster) and Eve Best (House of the Dragon (https://www.bt.com/tv/drama/house-of-the-dragon-season-2-release-date-timeline-news)) as sisters reunited in tragic circumstances.
Created by Anne-Marie O’Connor (Trollied, Hullraisers), the drama has been described as a story that "beautifully reveals the complexities of a sisterly relationship" after they uncover their mother’s secrets and l
ies.

O’Connor said the series was "a love story about two sisters", which explores the story of woman who steps away from the traditional roles we assign in families.

Maryland is the story of Becca and Rosaline, two sisters who have grown apart because of complex family dynamics and their careers.

However, when the body of an older woman found on Laxey Beach in the Isle of Man is revealed to be their mum, the sisters are reunited.

On top of mother Mary's death, the sisters discover she has been living a double life, leaving their father at home in Manchester to create another world… Maryland.

Confined to the island, the sisters can't escape the ripple effect of their mother's secrets and lies.

Suranne Jones said: "Maryland delves into family dynamics and the way in which we ‘label’ each other, sometimes never letting ourselves or our siblings break free from those roles.

"We look at how we grow apart from one another and how sometimes we don’t really know anything about the people we call our own.

"I love how complex sibling relationships can be and I'm thrilled we get to do it over three wonderful hours and not as a 'side story'.

"Maryland is an uncomfortable, funny and sometimes difficult story with two sisters at its heart and we can’t wait to take our audience along for the ride."

Yy how did Rizzo end up on the Isle of Man?
I really enjoyed ep 1, am forcing myself to wait for ep 2 at 9.

Jellykat · 23/05/2023 20:45

Maybe after Sandy and Danny drove off into the sky, Rizzo lost the rest of the party, and ended up off her face on the Isle of Man?..
.. having such a good time (and bored of The Pink ladies) she decided to stay, and make a living drug dealing for ever more?

tommyshelbysbunnit · 23/05/2023 20:48

She was fed up getting a hicky from Kenickie

Elderflower14 · 23/05/2023 21:28

The taxi driver is very attractive!

rockingbird · 23/05/2023 21:36

I'd be heading over to that fisherman's cottage quick sharp.. he's got something about him ☺️

tommyshelbysbunnit · 23/05/2023 21:41

Can't go wrong with a man that buys you a pie

Jellykat · 23/05/2023 21:41

Younger sis has to leave her arsewipe of a hubby fast..
Older sis and taxi driver = yep!

Jellykat · 23/05/2023 21:44

Rizzo gave her the morphine, wasnt she looking for something in the bathroom cupboard when pretending to pee?

Clawdy · 23/05/2023 23:00

Yes, in any drama if someone asks to use the toilet, they are after something!

Love it

ThePoshUns · 24/05/2023 08:47

Rizzo definitely the drug dealer. Maybe they were all part of some Isle of Man death cult.
Looking forward to part 3

They did a similar thing recently with that one about the fisherman. Ireland is cheaper for filming.

I think there are big tax breaks for film makers here in Ireland.

On another note- thanks @Blondeshavemorefun for including me on the thread but once again I'll have to wait months for Virgin Media in Ireland to show it as we no longer get ITV/UTV.
It will probably come with no subtitles either like Series 3 "Grace" at the moment and I can't hear so am missing parts of the dialogue.
If I turn the volume up and there's just music playing for atmosphere it deafens me 🙄

TheManxOneOnTheThread · 24/05/2023 09:24

Isle of Man death cult

I think they used to play every Saturday night at the Douglas Head Hotel in the 1970s.

martinisforeveryone · 24/05/2023 09:51

At one point I thought they were on the beach at Derbyhaven, so was disappointed and puzzled not to recognise any more locations. I was trying to work out where they’d be going over the Fairy Bridge and it didn’t make sense. Now I know 😬 The Isle of Man had a period of incentives and tax breaks for filming, when did all that change? As others have said, why write it as set there and not just say ‘Ireland’ Very odd.

All that aside I enjoyed it and, blowing my own trumpet to @Blondeshavemorefun I showed incredible restraint because I had to watch on the streaming app for the first one, got episode 2 half an hour early and was so tempted to carry straight on with the final episode but stopped myself to watch it tonight at 9.

florentina1 · 24/05/2023 10:14

in view of how it ended, I am betting there will be another series. Eagerly awaiting everyone to catch up, really get our teeth into it.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/05/2023 11:27

Jellykat · 23/05/2023 18:30

Well i dont know Blondes, missed off your list, yet again !
<runs off weeping and wailing>

Anywho... i enjoyed it last night, a slow pace but that was ok, i'm sure it'll pick up as more unfolds...
Rather disappointed that my 'Grease' hero (Stockard Channing) has messed with her face, i wanted a sneery mouth like hers when younger, now she sadly cant move it Sad

Apologies. Not sure how you aren't on it. Now are for future tv

Thank you @Blondeshavemorefun

As others have said, why write it as set there [IoM] and not just say ‘Ireland’ Very odd.

I'm dying to see what this crucial Manx 'specificity' can be. A wild wallaby plays Skippy the Bush Kangaroo and saves the day? Or does the denouement involve a Manx cat and an IoM Steampacket pork pie, Jonathan Creek-style? A loaghtan sheep flying past the window in a middling hooley? I'm intrigued.

Well done @martinisforeveryone

I've tried to download it but ITVX won't allow me

martinisforeveryone · 24/05/2023 12:03

@TheManxOneOnTheThread there’s already been a Manx cat 😆

@Blondeshavemorefun I think you have to subscribe to ITVX to be able to download from it.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/05/2023 12:10

Ah. That's would be it then.

Cheeky

I used to be able to download from
Normal itv

I started to watch this but pretty quickly it looked like there was going to be a breast cancer storyline involved. Having had this myself I steer away from programmes including it, it’s not entertainment. Can anyone tell me if it’s a big part of the plot please?

florentina1 · 24/05/2023 12:18

There was mention of Manx cat.

ThePoshUns · 24/05/2023 12:18

@Just2again not massively so in the first 2 episodes.

Piggywaspushed · 24/05/2023 12:49

Re IOM tax breaks and issues over filming in UK in general. One word . Brexit.
