SlartyBartFast · 21/05/2010 22:45

keats is the devil

Poshwellies · 21/05/2010 22:45

I was a child in the 80's,we had the same sofa as Alex had in her flat.

Oh and the garage down the road has a red Quattro-same model as Gene's..makes me want dh to go and buy it

GeorginaWorsley · 21/05/2010 22:45

Yes,suppose tha would tie up the army thing, ifyswim, make him feel even more guilty.

BitOfFunInTheQuattro · 21/05/2010 22:46

Did he tell him he was going to Hell, maybe? I can't quite remember either.

SlartyBartFast · 21/05/2010 22:46

them hiding the fire of bullets behind the car made me think of Bonnie and Clyde. presume we were meant to?
and that they were going to be killed

JamieJay · 21/05/2010 22:47

Did anyone notice the reflection of the young Gene in his office door at the end?

jeanjeannie · 21/05/2010 22:48

We had my FIl's old silver Quattro - it went like stink. It was just before LOM started - no time to cash in on the kudos! I think I killed it on a trip to south Wales. I loved that car

GeorginaWorsley · 21/05/2010 22:49

I did,Jamie

spikemomma · 21/05/2010 22:55

I did too jamies, although i missed it when he was being ruffed up.

It really was a great, satisfying ending. They didn't over complicate it too much, which i was dreading they might or god forbid the US spaceshit ending - which i would have felt so disgruntled at. They really pulled it off.

I thought the acting of each one as they found out they were dead was the best any of them have ever done. Really moving. Especially the girls Shaz - i want my mum and Bolly and Molly connection.

ElizabethWakefield · 21/05/2010 22:58

I did too.

I would love for them to do another one with the new guy, although there would be no real mystery it would just be like a cop show from the 80/90s, but at least it would still feature Gene! Although we would need a whole new team.

JackieNoMoreGeneGenie · 21/05/2010 22:59

Excellent link to the guardian blog, slartbartfast - thanks for that.

JamieJay · 21/05/2010 22:59

I'm glad they didn't show inside the pub at the end as I think that would have been a little lame in a way.

Would have loved a bit of explanation about how/why Annie ended up there though.

Am off to wikipedia the USA spaceship ending that everyone keeps talking about.......

HighFibreHoops · 21/05/2010 23:09

That was satisfying. Most of it fitted in with what I'd thought. They didn't quite explain the pub or Keats but I like a few bits to be left for us to think about.

Gene definitely turned into his young self while on the floor. And saw himself in the door near the end of the episode. And shrank in his clothes when Alex discovered his body.

I thought it was a bit of a shame that they'd shown so much of the first bit in the trailers. I wish I hadn't seen Alex's dream sequence until this episode.

So that Guardian article was posted at exactly 10pm! I think all the tv journalists have been pretty good about this.

Poshwellies · 21/05/2010 23:12

I think that Gene told the bent copper who was 'dying' on the floor, that they were all dead as he told Alex that he had told him the truth (hence the bent copper's screams)

ElizabethWakefield · 21/05/2010 23:16

I also think that journalist etc have been really good about not leaking too much.

Also meant to say earlier, I love that Gene greeted the new guy with the same words he first said to Sam

MadameOvary · 21/05/2010 23:23

Kudos to everyone who figured it out. After Reading this, I knew that the minute Gene saw the Photo and the Coronation on his TV, that the body was going to be his.
Fantastic acting from Mr Glenister. I predict a BAFTA for him.
God I cried buckets. Esp when Alex realised she was dead and said "My baby"

tulpe · 21/05/2010 23:43

am gutted it is over. No more really to add to the analysis already on this thread Just really blown away by the great acting and story lines.

I did predict to DH, however, half way through series 2 (having just re-watched LOM box set) that Gene et al were dead. And from the minute Alex started seeing the ghost I knew that was Gene. However, I missed the whole thing about Alex no longer having messages from Molly.

Keats was seriously freaky by the end. I suspected he was the devil on Alex's shoulder, trying to woo her into thinking Gene was a nasty piece of work.

And when Shaz, Chris & Ray started to follow Keats......was anyone else shouting "Don't do it!!" at the tv??

I cried at the end. Can this really be the end of Gene Hunt?

Philip Glenister really deserves serious recognition for this role. The writing too - that perfect blend of drama, suspense and comedy - very rarely does anyone get that bang on the way they did with both LOM and A2A.

What do we all do now????!

SlartyBartFast · 21/05/2010 23:47

watch it all again, from the beginning, is the immediate answer

edam · 21/05/2010 23:50

I think you are onto something there, Slarty.

Quite, quite brilliant. God, I'm going to miss this show. Lovely to end it with Gene climbing on his horse all over again, ready to rescue another deceased copper.

iloveasylumseekers · 21/05/2010 23:51

Did anyone noticed the door code to the lifts to hell? 666. Nice touch.

SlartyBartFast · 21/05/2010 23:51

a word in your shell like, pal

edam · 21/05/2010 23:52

Bloody well spotted, Ilove - hadn't seen it but am v. glad you brought it up.

Northernlurker · 21/05/2010 23:54

I thought it was wonderful - totally satisfying and genuinely scary. That bit in the lobby with the lift......

ElizabethWakefield · 21/05/2010 23:57

Didn't notice the lift code either

Longtimeinthe1980s · 21/05/2010 23:57
