I thought it would be high time to get the TARDIS party going, now we're on a countdown. Has anyone else seen the clip from the first episode yet? Looking like good fun. I might even be persuaded to squee.

There were some quite amusing bits, but on the whole, yes, very disappointing. The angels next week should be better!

ShadeofViolet · 17/04/2010 22:08

Its the loss of the typical Dalek voice that I mourn the most. 'Exterminate' wont sound so menacing now!

Katisha · 17/04/2010 22:13

Yup as each new coloured dalek popped up I thought £39.99 each at Christmas. A lot of children will want the whole set...

And as for stopping the bomb detonating by asking him if he has ever fancied anyone he knew he shouldn't nudge, wink, knowing wink at Doctor blah blah this is just like OMG getting sooooo teenage...

Pixel · 17/04/2010 22:14

Bit boring wasn't it. Some not-very-scary daleks turn up and don't do anything much except make tea, then they are defeated in about two seconds with some very convenient and quickly-built technology. There was no tension whatsoever.

Look writers, I've forgiven MS for not being DT and now I really want to like this series, but you aren't making it easy!

noeyedear · 17/04/2010 22:20

I agree. Thought the first half was great and was gripped, then it sort of went off on a tangent ans shoved too much stuff in. Did we need the dogfight in space? They should have expanded more on the daleks as soldiers and the bit in the dalek spaceship.
And I agree with the Amy stuff. She saves the day again? I'm all for strong female characters, but she's only been flying around for 5 minutes and suddenly she's some sort of saviour of the universe? She needs to develop and learn more.

pinkteddy · 17/04/2010 23:15

Yes I was very disappointed. I didn't think MS was convincing at all when the daleks got away. Don't know if he just isn't up to the acting or plot was just rubbish.

KayHarker · 17/04/2010 23:29

In the Confidential Moffat said he really wanted a dogfight with spitfires in space. Seeems like he's doing well with thinking up set pieces but he's a bit sloppy on the details. A bit like Arsenal.

WHy 'should' Amy have known about the Daleks? DD & I were confused by him saying that twice

KayHarker · 17/04/2010 23:34

Because of the events when all the planets moved and the Daleks invaded and davros started disintergrating people in his ship. Donna's last episode basically.

But Donna always 'missed' everything too

pinkteddy · 17/04/2010 23:38

Yes but Donna had reasons for missing things - she was away scuba diving or something...

KayHarker · 17/04/2010 23:39

Yup, Donna missed eveything too.

Which means that this is a clearly signposted plot point, along with all those cracks that they keep doing zoom-up close-ups to. Honestly, there's nothing subtle about that particular story arc, and it's starting to irritate me.

Katymac · 17/04/2010 23:40

Was there a 'zero' in this episode?

KayHarker · 17/04/2010 23:49

I'll have to watch it again and look out or it. Nothing springs to mind.

I liked the TARDIS Destruction Device!

Katisha · 18/04/2010 11:29

This doctor seems rather vague and dithery. OK so he did the biscuit joke for a bit but I never felt he had any authority, any actual danger about him or anything up his sleeve. So we were waiting for Amy to save him again. This is not good so early on.. I don't think the companion should be bettering the doctor in ingenuity. Now and then fine, but this seems to be shaping up for every episode.

persephonesnape · 18/04/2010 13:39

would.you. caaaare. for. some. teeeaaaa?

fabulous!

I loved the whole dorabella bit. beautifully acted. amy doesn't know about daleks because shes a robot(rani!!) or the doctor went and got her in 1990. i thought child amy was very seventies = 'now' amy (12 years later..) would have been around 1990. if it's 2010 'now', then young amy would have been 7 in 1996 (?) it just looked wrong.

the cracks are pissing me off now. i've seen them you don't need it every week! i hope they're a diversion from the real story arc and i can't wait for river song!!

persephonesnape · 18/04/2010 13:41

oh, i thought matt smith was fab - scared/angry when utility-daleks turned up. bit cocky. loved 'I am the doctoooooor! you are the daaaaaaaleks!'

JulesJules · 18/04/2010 14:46

Reality @ "Oh, hello Daleks"

The only thing about this episode I liked was the destruction device.

Everything else was crap. The story, the plot holes, the dialogue, the 'Independence Day' rip off, everything.

I would quite like a Dalek* to make me a cup of tea in the mornings though. Now they can manage stairs. That'll be Earl Grey in the blue mug, milk, no sugar, thanks.

*An orange one would go with my kitchen walls.

RunawayWife · 18/04/2010 14:57

Last nights episode was rubbish, total crap, who is writing it now? And when will the new Dr stop being David Tennent?

JulesJules · 18/04/2010 15:29

Last night's ep was written by Mark Gatiss who has written several episodes, including "The Unquiet Dead" and the one where Maureen Lipman is an alien who lives in the tv, kind of...

RustyBear · 18/04/2010 16:01

Mark Gatiss has also acted in Doctor Who - he played Professor Lazarus in 'The Lazarus Experiment' in series Three - he didn't write that one though.

Next two episodes (two-parter) are Moffat again, then it's the Vampire one, by Toby 'Being Human' Whithouse, who wrote School Reunion, so I'm looking forward to that one.

KayHarker · 18/04/2010 19:13

Despite being underwhelmed by rainbow Dalek nation, I am looking forward to the return of River Song very much.
