did anyone else think he was a bit crass and slightly naive at times?

He needs to stop highlighting his hair now. He aint a boyband member circa 1991.

He is far too much the alpha male, or rather playing the alpha male image. I also think he is very much fish out of water in a third world country - reminds me of Charlie Boorman in his patronising and misguided ways.

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 19/01/2010 10:21

i've only seen the last ep, having seen it i was disinclined to watch any more. he is so ill-mannered, swearing right in the face of this hugely elegant, educated, serene and successful indian woman who is encouraging him to try vegetarian food then when she's off-camera does a rant about how she wants to strip him naked and whip him with green beans etc etc etc sexist fuckhead. i showed it to dh, he was horrified.

GetOrfMoiLand · 19/01/2010 10:22

I also adore Indian food and think a good programme investigating the culture of Indian cuisine would be a very good thing. This programme is not it though. He seems to have no feel or instinct for Indian cookery. You may as well have sent Bob Carolgees over there to make a curry.

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 19/01/2010 10:25

lol.

seriously, watch the first ten mins of friday's ep. ramsey has lost it, i think his career's over. it's astonishing that the production team put the rant in, unless they wanted to fuck him over.

HerHonesty · 19/01/2010 10:27

its sad because i watched it thinking (equally naively) that he might be more tempered, humble, calm. in reality he was a twat. you are right though, there are sort of glimpses of what could have been a really good programme, a lost opportunity imho.

is this Gordon's Great Escape? I thought it was only on episode 1, I only have one taped.

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 19/01/2010 10:29

i get sent them in advance, chops, for my job.

MrsMattie · 19/01/2010 10:29

Food looked divine.

He was annoying (no change there, then) and I hated the way he was so heavily scripted ('I want to get back to what I do best: COOKING').

Cringe.

chopstheduck · 19/01/2010 10:30

oh I see! thanks for explaining.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 19/01/2010 10:32

"You may as well have sent Bob Carolgees over there to make a curry."

Arf!

30andLurking · 19/01/2010 10:32

I've only seen last night's episode (the first one?) and think he was massively out of his depth and uncomfortable and uses the kind of comedy-swearing as a kind of crutch, because it's easier than actually shutting up and learning something.

I guess he's also never really travelled, having been working all his life and probably now just going 5-star whenever his family go abroad.

I actually felt a bit sorry for him in a weird kind of way.

GetOrfMoiLand · 19/01/2010 10:38

I think he has also lost it.

Professionally he took quite a hit last year and for someone who is such a big swinging dick as Ramsay it must have been a body blow.

I imagine he is one of those men who cry in the bath at the sheer inadequacy of himself.

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 19/01/2010 10:50

i've always seen him as the adult nappy type.

GetOrfMoiLand · 19/01/2010 10:54

Yes, I am sure he probably frequents Madame Misery type places for a good whipping.

He is rather strange isn't he. All that going on about not wanting to witness his wife in labout because it would put him off oral sex. Why speak to the media about such thoughts.

I do strangely feel quite sorry for him against my better judgement, he does seem a lost soul.

sis · 19/01/2010 10:55

missed most of it last night but really enjoyed the bit at the end when the host came to taste some ofthe food he had made for her guests and said that the dishes 'had potential'! and she clearly thought the pumpkin puree tasted revolting.

PurpleEglu · 19/01/2010 10:59

Gordon Ramsey for example is a twat.

I used to work for him and find him cringy to watch on tv. I do agree he is getting worse. He looked like a total knob last night. I kept aasking DH to turn it over as it was driving me mad.

i know someone who worked with him on an ad, said he was very professional, very driven and dressed like a rent boy.

there, that's all i've got on GR.

mrsshackleton · 19/01/2010 11:05

I've also had some dealings with GR

He is a numero uno vain, bullying a-hole, aitch - adult nappies is not too far off course

Why Tana puts up with her multi-millionaire husband is a mystery to me

megapixels · 19/01/2010 11:07

Oh no, I missed it. Does it get repeated?

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 19/01/2010 11:07

but tana's daddy's the rich one, though, that's the thing. he married well, not the other way around.

we need detail, mrss.

GetOrfMoiLand · 19/01/2010 11:09

When Tana R came on here she seemed all right. Normal.

Gawd knows why she puts up with him, what with all her daddy's millions. She must love him.
