did anyone else think he was a bit crass and slightly naive at times?

OP posts:
SixtyFootDoll · 20/01/2010 22:54

agree he came across as a complete nob, it was as if he had never met a person with brown skin before and was being overly jocular to show it didn't bother him.
I thought the food was really interesting as were the chefs, but GR spoilt the prgramme. Would have worked better if he wasn't there.

chasha · 20/01/2010 22:59

The guru at the ashram was such a nice person , humouring him and all....

most of the Indians (who had limited english vocab )could frame a sentence better than him anyway all he can say is 'bloody f hell '

would have been an excellent watch minus the twat...

chasha · 20/01/2010 22:59

had I been the guru I wouldn't have let him enter my ashram...

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 20/01/2010 23:02

it's baffling how he can be so rude, and why ch4 put it out.

megapixels · 21/01/2010 00:18

GR at the ashram was awful. How disrespectful he was. Swimming and splashing about in the pool where people were meditating, sitting on that ball thing in the middle etc. I thought the guru came across very well, didn't get flustered or annoyed with GR's idiocy and answered his questions well.

I was at him calling the toddy tapper a little f*er.

The kerala fish dish (curry meen or something?) looked delicious.

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 21/01/2010 00:23

oh yes i'd forgotten about the pool thing. ye gods, that was absolutely shameful, wasn't it? agree that the guru was very long-suffering.

30andLurking · 21/01/2010 09:34

I thought the guru thing was quite interesting... The other guys in the meditation pool and food hall were obviously pretty appalled by his behaviour (and I agree it was bang out of order), but the extremely media-friendly motorbike-riding cobra-cuddling guru really didn't seem that bothered! A case of all publicity is good publicity?!

RocheMoutonee · 21/01/2010 09:36

i think a guru is used to nobs like him
god he was SO embarassing wanst he with his swearing - like a trendy dad at an 18th

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/01/2010 09:39

I really liked that guru!

Again GR came across as a prize knob. Me and DP roared when at the very end in the smart hotel a grand, rather camp seeimg young Indian chap commented on GR's cooking 'hmm, yes, rather a good cook for a footballer' lolol.

I remember he had AA Gill hoiked out of Aubergine for comments like that.

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 21/01/2010 09:40

im sure it spoke to a real anxiety on his part that he was being out-classed by people who he'd always thought himself 'better' than. i'm not saying he's racist, because, well, i just doubt it in this day and age, but i think the trip bumped him up against some prejudices about india and indians.

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 21/01/2010 09:41

SO DID NO-ONE THINK HIS BEHAVIOUR TO THE REST. CRITIC WOMAN WAS APPALLING??!!

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/01/2010 09:41

Again, must say those highlights are looking hideous, as roche says embarassing dad.

he is so needlessly agressive, all that crap about not going without meat. Yes, all right Gordon, we get it, you are not gay a man.

RocheMoutonee · 21/01/2010 09:41

adn the taxi driver in Kerala who spoke fantastic ENglish with a lovely idiom and GR thought it was crap

shittin nora

( as hed say)

RocheMoutonee · 21/01/2010 09:41

"ooh ooh ewww it burns my mouth"

oh grow some

shall we have a GR day?

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/01/2010 09:43

Yes, I think he felt comfortable with the street people who he could feel he was superior to, however when he was up against educated middle class Indians I think he was surprised and insecure.

Aitch - I missed some of it as had to pick dd up, do you mean the bit when he was with the woman in cafe madras?

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/01/2010 09:45

And YOU NEED TO KEEP YOUR TOP ON GORD, ESPEC IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE STANDING NEXT TO LITHE YOUNG WHIPPERSNAPPERS

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 21/01/2010 09:46

although of course popbitch has a habit of insinuating strongly that he allegedly doesn't much care whose kissing his willie, male or female. but i have nothing to report on that one.
i saw him once, back when he was fat.

crankytwanky · 21/01/2010 09:47

I was on MN while DH was watching it.

At one point he said "OMG he's so fucking disrespectful." And he's a fan (professionally) of GR. And his humour can be a bit caustic (DH's) so I'm guessing it was bad, yes?

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 21/01/2010 09:50

yes, that woman, was it rakshmi something, i saw the show a while ago. swearing in her face while she was saying that guests are like a god in india, taking the piss out of the food, and then that extraordinary rant about how she scared him and wanted to strip him naked and thrash him with green beans. sure, gordy, she scared you, because she is a woman who is cleverer than you and graciously deigning to ignore your bullshit.

WorzselMummage · 21/01/2010 09:52

It was baaaad !

What a waste of 3 hours. It could have been brilliant but GR fucking ruined it.

EleanoraBuntingCupcake · 21/01/2010 09:53

aitch i agree about his attitude to that woman. only good manners prevented her from walking off.

EleanoraBuntingCupcake · 21/01/2010 09:53

he came across as some sort of crazed troll that the guru had unleased from the clay.

largeginandtonic · 21/01/2010 09:54

He is a twat. I like him less and less.

Shame he ruined the prg. Fun taking him apart though livens up a dull Thursday morning.

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/01/2010 09:55

Blimey no Aitch I must have missed that bit.

My DP was agape when I came back with DD, he said this bloke is a complete prick, always thought he was all right etc.

I think his programmes in America have given free reign to his completely idiotic alpha twat behaviour ('vomiting' at the disguting food, stand offs with testosteroney chefs, bullying etc) and that is coming across in his UK shows now (have never watched The F Word so god knows what he is like on that).

I just think, yes you are a succesfuk man, yes you are a man's man, will you please just shut the fuck up now.

What do you mean about GR day - shall we all change our names to something GResque?

EleanoraBuntingCupcake · 21/01/2010 09:56

shame nailpolish isn't here to regale us all with her gr fantasies
