yippee!! on now.

OP posts:
notcitrus · 10/07/2009 14:28

orangeknickers Still haven't reached the stage where we can have an established same-sex relationship that lasts for five minutes, though. The 'gay partner tragically dies' gets incredibly tedious!

I'll watch tonight, but after the nosedive in plotting yesterday I'm not expecting much. Sonic screwdriver ex machina, probably...

OrangeKnickers · 10/07/2009 14:41

notcitrus - agreed. I haven't seen Ianto dying episode yet (will cry am a wimp) but it's shame that they couldn't have been a couple for longer, so that it was just normal, not part of the plot.

My impression was that Drw and TW was kind of at the vanguard of normalising gay relationships in mainstream (well geeky) drama. Do you think that is true or not?

wishingchair · 10/07/2009 14:48

ooo bunnyrabbit ... I'm with you on the children controlling everything bit. We still haven't found out why they want the children. Can not wait for tonight. Am torchwood newbie but total convert now.

notcitrus · 10/07/2009 14:50

orange - Who and TW are definitely at the vanguard, it's just that the vanguard isn't as far forward as people might think!

Having main characters who are both portrayed as fanciable/admirable and not straight is a huge step forward. Especially in Dr Who seeing as that's aimed at children.

OrangeKnickers · 10/07/2009 15:06

notcitrus - I thought you were going to say 'vanguard - are you having a giraffe??' as I don't have a TV. As you say it's a great step forward; 'normal' gay characters. But that is a bit depressing.

I also think that TW has lots of good female characters and actors of colour. It's almost like a accurate portrayal of life (apart from the scary monsters!). I think that's why I watch it. It's easier to suspend disbelief about aliens than it is about how shows like Desperate Housewives/24/hotel babylon portray life.

abraid · 10/07/2009 15:25

I agree. I hate Desperate Housewives and Hotel Babylon because they seem like never-never land somehow. Anyway, aliens are much more likely to happen to me than having perfect skin and lots of designer clothes.

pigswithfludontfly · 10/07/2009 15:51

Hmm can anyone explain why Clem has a super-sensitive sense of smell. I assumed before last night that he was affected by something when with the aliens but since he never made it that far it doesn't make sense.

gillybeanie · 10/07/2009 18:00

ooh not long now and hopefully all the questions will be answered, alot to get in an hour

sockmonkey · 10/07/2009 18:27

DSSs are over this weekend. Have told DH to pass on strict instructions not to speak when TW is on.

Am worried I may have to sob infront of them if all goes wrong tonight and ruin my image

LoveBuckets · 10/07/2009 19:13

Rustybear Don't forget Captain Jack was a renegade timecop before he turned immortal so he could look like this at any point up to the 31st century or whenever he came from originally. So quite feasible Dr Who might bump into him again before Jack knows what's happening.

On the subject of Dr Who, does anyone else want to see more River Song before Alex Kingston gets too aged? Or is that best left to our imagination?

abraid · 10/07/2009 19:15

I'll never forget him in his first appearance in the Blitz-set Dr Who. Dancing in his uniform to Glenn Miller. Sigh....

He was so gorgeous then.

AppleTreeWick · 10/07/2009 19:18

OK DH on bedtime duty I am released to enjoy the tension..the night night train was making excellent time tonight - possibly due to me missing out a few stations.

...I have T minus 105 minutes to come up with a plausible plot twist for Ianto to be brought back from the dead....the rizzen mittens are lost in the wash...so I'm left with Cpt J "sharing his essence" ahem or life force whatever to bring him back whilst Gwen saves the day.

I am convinced he did something similar after Iantos cybergirl dumped him in Series 1.

AppleTreeWick · 10/07/2009 19:26

Having just reread my last post I seem to be hoping for a spot of man on man necrophilia...I'll go put the tea on.

RustyBear · 10/07/2009 19:29

But would he have been wearing his Torchwood costume then? He didn't seem to adopt that until after he became immortal.

Of course, it could have been one of the c=visits to the Powell Estate that he made in the 90's to watch Rose growing up.

BecauseImWorthIt · 10/07/2009 19:33

PMSL at 'man on man necrophilia'!

Minniethemoocher · 10/07/2009 19:38

I felt physically sick when they mentioned the "under achievers". DD has learning difficulties, and never mind the least able 10%, she is in the least able 2%. What a horrible, eugenics type argument that the politicians put forward...

And I cried when Ianto died....but I will still be watching it tonight!

Pixel · 10/07/2009 19:46

Rustybear, re: the Torchwood costume. I was wondering why Jack's coat wasn't full of holes, the amount of times he gets shot. So glad he's got a nice new one .

RustyBear · 10/07/2009 20:06

I think Jack must have somehow have transferred the life-giving properties of the Time Vortex to his coat - after all it managed to survive 2000 years of burial with just a few earth stains....

gillybeanie · 10/07/2009 20:07

just saw a trailer before eenders, thought i heard the tardis!!!!

AitchTwoOh · 10/07/2009 20:11

lolol gilly i hope it's true because if not you've gone quite MAD.

edam · 10/07/2009 20:11

It was funny when hard-faced politician woman pointed out that the guy suggesting they choose children alphabetically was called Mr Yates, though.

AitchTwoOh · 10/07/2009 20:11

(that really would be a deus ex machina).

AppleTreeWick · 10/07/2009 20:16

Thinking about it though he must have the Cardiff army & navy store on speed dial

bronze · 10/07/2009 20:20

oooh almost forgot! How could I?!
Glad I got back from sports day now not later

dobby2001 · 10/07/2009 20:47
