Yes, they do, but the first one of the pair (used to revive Suzie)was destroyed by Tosh to stop it draining Gwen's life force & the other one (found by Jack in the church & used to revive Owen) was shot to bits in the Hub autopsy room after it attacked Martha.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 10/07/2009 00:11

I can't believe they killed Ianto.

I also think it is rubbish that none of them have even attempted to get hold of the Doctor - not that he would be much use anymore seeing as he's only 14 years old. Humph.

Pixel · 10/07/2009 00:28

There's a flaw in the government's evil plan. If my non-verbal ds started chanting anything I would be delighted, not rushing off to get him vaccinated against it .

Housemum · 10/07/2009 00:37

I think the new Doctor is probably chanting along with the other pre-pubescent kids...

yoyoy · 10/07/2009 00:43

scary stuff... much better than previous series... I agree with everyone who said, "why don't they contact the Doctor ? Why don't they put some effort into finding Martha, she's got the magic mobile to ring him on.. ???

However, we still don't know exactly what they want the children for... that's what'll bw the turning point in tomorrow's ep...

and big shame about Ianto... I really liked him..

l39 · 10/07/2009 06:46

Wasn't the orphan in some sort of symbiosis with the disgusting alien? I assume they want the children to keep aliens alive somehow - like Star Trek's Vidiians, only the donors stay alive. Worse than if they were eating them really.

Suppose I am an idealist as I can hardly believe not one politician stood up and said better to die together than survive by sacrificing children!

And how can they be closing their eyes to the obvious point that the aliens have already broken their word once - why would they stop at 325,000? They'll be back again for another lot in another generation...

sockmonkey · 10/07/2009 06:56

Ianto!

Well Ianto told his sister to spread the word not to let anyone take their children.

It better have a bloomin happy ending tomorrow or I'll hunt RTD down and... complain very loudly.

DH said DS would be in trouble. He's a clever lad but his school is not so good.

Sugarmagnolia · 10/07/2009 07:20

It was all well and good Torchwood outsmarting the government but shame they didn't think ahead about how they were actually going to stop the aliens.

Thought the whole anti-viral thing was a bit timely!

Northumberlandlass · 10/07/2009 07:22

And wouldn't you of thought that Martha Jones would of cut short her honeymoon of the 456 crisis? AND where is Micky ? He came back to'our' earth !
Was devastated about Ianto.

poorbuthappy · 10/07/2009 07:43

I have to say that as much as I am a dr and torchwood fan I am feeling a little bit short changed with this...

If it does all work out in the end tonight it will have to be because of something which has not been hinted at over the past 4 days, a ghost in the machine...and those type of plot devices really piss me off.
However if I'm wrong and the human race dies out (which is different from the world ending!!)then I stand corrected cos I love a good ending!

this seems like it would have been better for the dr rather than jack and co. I can see the dr running around trying to work out who/what they are, how to defeat them etc etc. Whereas torchwood just seem to have spent the last 4 days discovering that Jack knew all about it from '65 and no one in the whole world has a clue how to stop them!

Don't shoot the glass, it was also going to be bullet proof...open the door...

sorry, I do actually love torchwood and have been glued to tele honest!

poorbuthappy · 10/07/2009 07:44

always, not also...sorry!

sockmonkey · 10/07/2009 07:47

PBH - I wondered why they didn't open the door too...I guess they would have got poisoned by the gas, but Ianto at least was already going to die.

Sugarmagnolia · 10/07/2009 07:49

I agree, shooting the glass was pretty dumb.

Sugarmagnolia · 10/07/2009 08:18

Maybe, since Jack can live forever he could provide enough energy for the entire alien species and he could sacrifice himself to save the children - and maybe that's how he becomes the face of Bo.

or maybe something totally different...

Katisha · 10/07/2009 08:21

Sugarmagnolia you may be on to something there...

The aliens didn't break their word. they were one child short the first time because of Clem running away. Not to say of course that they wouldn't have come back anyway

Longtalljosie · 10/07/2009 08:45

I was awake at some ungodly hour thinking about it. The problem is it's not so easy to dismiss it as just a programme plot when you know there's something just like that, buried in the worst of human nature.

Riven - do watch it though. My cousin refused to watch the second part of the Empty Child because she was so freaked out about it - and was haunted by it for ages. I tried to explain if she'd seen part 2 she would have been able to put it to bed far easier.

I can't believe this is the last of Torchwood. It doesn't make sense. Moving it to BBC1 is a huge deal, putting a great deal of faith in the brand. Why would you do that just for 5 episodes? Although given the speed at which people are dying off I can see why people are saying it...

As far as the HQ being destroyed goes - it reminds me of a documentary I saw about soap opera disasters. One of the producers of EastEnders was explaining that sets depreciate really quickly - which is why it's necessary to have fires in the Queen Vic every so often - so that they can build a new one.

MayorNaze · 10/07/2009 08:45

oh i am loving torchwood.

but will have to iplay it later as am out tonight.

offing ianto was a bit unecessary i thought tbh

now grasping at straws i think the spraying of snot and imitating voices are quite significant. i think it is some possible defect (as if it is for scary effect, i am not impressed). i think the 456 somehow live on/through the children and they have run out of lives/need more.

i think the prob will be solved by Jack calling their bluff as actually, offing the whole world will not achieve anything as then the 456 will also die.

or mickey will leap through from another alternative reality and ofer them a load of insignificant alien beings to slurp on instead of earth kids.

phew, thats a lot of speculation for so early in the day

morethanjustadad · 10/07/2009 08:55

Ah yes, we've all forgotten about Mickey!

Tee2072 · 10/07/2009 08:57

The aliens did break their word. Clem did not run away, he wasn't taken by the light. This was explained last night. The theory that Gwen came up with was that it was because he had started puberty and the aliens need pre-pubescent children. Clem ran across the field because he was left behind.

Obviously the aliens did something to him to make him act like the children and then die, but it was the alien's choice to not take him.

And we do know what they want them for. Some sort of symbiotic relationship that the aliens need to live.

But I agree that if the government give them the 10%, they will be back for the next generation.

And I was truly appalled that Russel T, or whomever wrote the episode, didn't have one politician in that room who stood up and said 'this is insane. You are talking about giving them our children!!'

Sugarmagnolia · 10/07/2009 08:59

oooh, i like the idea that the aliens are sick....

difficultdecision · 10/07/2009 08:59

great plan, kill off ianto just as he was getting funny (and quite cute)

Now they are down to 2 repopulating torchwood is going to seem a little silly.

and yes, as someone else mentioned. why was martha jones not called back? and has noone thought of calling up the doctor since they managed perfectly well using the mobiles last time IMaybe I just want to see more DT in the role before he goes but can't you just imagine him strolling in, mocking the 456 a bit with knowledge he has on them from the past and treating them like badly behaved school children before sending them packing because he knows they've only actually got one ship, it's unarmed and it's all a huge alien bluff

difficultdecision · 10/07/2009 09:01

ooh great post dd I seem to have missed out any actual sentences there! sorry!

MayorNaze · 10/07/2009 09:06

i am clinging to my bluff theory

perhaps they didn't take clem initially as they could tell he would have some sort of mental disorder later in life? they only need "perfect" children (adding to the whole "cleansing" ideal that is being perpetrated )

or perhaps they used him to "spy" on earth?oh i don't know!
