DT will be a hard act to follow.

lol Aitch . tbh, when I said leather, I was mostly joking, but was actually thinking about RIchard Armitage-esque leather.

holidaywonk · 04/01/2009 12:07

Just popping in out of curiosity, and because I haven't bought the paper yet today.

Matt Smith was very good in Party Animals, really. Not the best thing in it though - that was Andrea Riseborough.

However I don't watch Dr Who, so I shall now Do One.

Aitch · 04/01/2009 12:11

i could see him in britches.

he's lanky, kay. or looked it in PA. hard to tell with actors, though.

Aitch · 04/01/2009 12:12

true, AR v good also. loathed the one with the jamie oliver mouth, although quite liked him in jane eyre. (loved jane eyre. jane eyre for the assistant.)

holidaywonk · 04/01/2009 12:16

TBH I think I'm probably the only person in the whole country (with the exception of the cast's mums) who really liked all of Party Animals. I was terribly disappointed that there was no second series. It's the Wonk in me.

KayHarkerIsGlum · 04/01/2009 12:17

#Sigh# see, that's what I mean. Tall, lanky and mad hair. It's just so samey and dull.

Breeches. #shrugs# Ok, we could go with regency tail-coat. That's not making me weep, certainly.

Hat. Do we think hat at all?

Aitch · 04/01/2009 12:19

he may look like lurch in a tail coat.

KayHarkerIsGlum · 04/01/2009 12:20

squashes mild hysteria

A perm! He could have a perm! And props!

I think it's time for coffee, this is getting silly...

Aitch · 04/01/2009 12:21

ROFL at perm. too drastic. some carmen rollers.

serenity · 04/01/2009 12:22

There's very few pictures of him on the 'net atm. I'm sure that will change over the next few weeks, and we'll get a better idea of how he can look. I'd like to see him with shorter hair, or at least a different style.

Not britches though

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 04/01/2009 12:25

Thanks Jackie - that's EXACTLY what I mean about men in leather. You've gotta be able to fill it.

I'm going to stick with proper suited and booted. I watched the Philadelphia Story last night, now those guys knew how to wear a suit. Or maybe he should go for the Darcy regency look?

VSisFlouncing · 04/01/2009 12:32

Just to reinforce his age, how about geeky school boy look?

beansprout · 04/01/2009 12:35

26 is, by any stretch, an adult so everyone who thinks he is just-too-young clearly does have an ishoo with something!!

beansprout · 04/01/2009 12:36

I was one of the Catherine Tate will be shite but changed my mind brigade so I am going to assume he will be good in the absence of any actual evidence!!

KayHarkerIsGlum · 04/01/2009 12:42

I DON'T have an issue with him being 26. If he was 17 years old, I wouldn't give a monkeys, as long as he looked older. He's 26 and looks younger. Am I just not expressing that clearly enough?

Actually, VSisFlouncing, that is undeniably the first shot of him where I've thought anything other than no. I'm not saying the schoolboy look is the one to go for, but the white shirt was a winner for me.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 04/01/2009 12:58

Me either. It's not that he's 26. It's that he looks 12! There are plenty of 26 year olds out there who look like grown ups, it's just that he doesn't.

RedtartanLass · 04/01/2009 13:10

Sneaked out of wedding yesterday to watch DWC!! Matt Smith Nooooooooooooooo!

Sooooooooob!

"He looks like a drama student pretending to be a vampire." Sooooo spot on.

Does he not look a bit like Robert Pattinson maybe aiming to the teenage girl demographic?

Absolutely gutted, however was not a fan of DT when it was announced and how wrong was I!!

grouchyoscar · 04/01/2009 14:09

DT has done a fab job, managed to make me forget he was the scrote who kidnapped a girl, restrained her with flex and imprisoned her in a refrigerated van in a Bill 3 parter

Give Matt a chance

cornsilk · 04/01/2009 14:18

Oh dear 26 - similar in age to my nephews. If he's anything like them the tardis will reek of smelly feet.

Elffriend · 04/01/2009 14:43

Not been able to write before now as too gutted busy.

Wail. No!! Don't like.

Agree with Kay et al. He is too young/NOT the doctor.

I don't want an EMO doctor who will stay in his tardis all day playing crap music and sulking. (Actually, I just want DT let's face it but I was willing to be open minded). I managed to get into a row with DH because I wailed so much last night about how it would be ruined and how they might as well put it on CBeebees now.

Wrong direction IMO.

AND I liked having a sexy doctor with some charisma and presence. Not a bottle of bloody clearasil.

AND the hair has got to go.

Okay. I will stop ranting. BUT am still wanting to stamp my feet. A lot. Not fair.

This really brings home the fact that I have no life doesn't it?

BucketsofReindeerPoo · 04/01/2009 14:47

Haven't read all the posts but does Matt Smith remind anyone else of that Willie the Chocolate Factory guy Channel 4?

KayHarkerIsGlum · 04/01/2009 14:48

Oh, it'll be ok. Whatever he looks like, he's not going to be written as a moody teenager.

It isn't working for me, but it doesn't actually have to work for me for a whole actual year anyway. Four more broadcast hours of the current Doctor. And then I will cry, but I would have cried anyway, I did when CE went (and I still do, whenever I rewatch PotW). And when PD went. And when it was cancelled. This cannot possibly be as bad as it being cancelled.

As much as I didn't want to 'wait and see', wait and see is going to have to suffice for now.

Elffriend · 04/01/2009 14:59

I guess you are right Kay, but it did make me think (as a knee jerk reaction) that this was a signal that they were going to aim more squarely at a younger/teen audience.

I hope that won't be the case, but I AM struggling to be optimistic. I WILL cry when they kill DT (and then hide in my room in denial and replay all my DVDs....)and that would be the case whoever was replacing him but now I'm worried as well about whether this will be the beginning of the end.

(Yes, I know, way too melodramatic- now you know why DH got annoyed with me!)

As an aside, DT did look as melting as ever on Confidential sigh. Going back to your fanfic to wallow I think.....
