DT will be a hard act to follow.

Yes they do still segregate at some state schools, I went to the Girl's school and it was a state school.

I don't think he did come across as a pretentious public school boy, more a young lad who has just got the biggest break of his life and is nervous as hell.

I also think the fact that he isn't a huge personality is perfect for the role of the Doctor, he's a totally blank slate which the producers etc can work with easily.

Just give him a chance, I guarantee even if he doesn't match up to DT, which seems t be many of your favourite version of the Doctor (I much preferred CE if I'm honest) he'll still be a Good Doctor.

KayHarkerIsGlum · 04/01/2009 11:10

Yup. I know. You're not going to tell me anything I haven't been saying to myself. It's not like I'm not going to watch him, of course I am. And I am at least hopeful I will like him eventually. I'm just not excited and I'm pouting

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 04/01/2009 11:16

At least we still have 4 more episodes of DT to give us all a warm glow. And remember that A LOT has to do with the quality of the writing. So i'm praying they're not going to downgrade it into some generic teen-b**cks drama.

Even Radio 4 this morning was bemoaning that he looks like a 12 year old and there should be more oldies on tv - they suggested a 70+ year old Doctor Who-Am-I.

Howevre, I still say, give him a chance....

VSisFlouncing · 04/01/2009 11:18

He doesn't look as emo here if that helps at all...

UnquietDad · 04/01/2009 11:26

I'm worried that I might fancy his mum. (Not that I have seen her, I hasten to add. It's just that his mum might only be in her late forties, and, you know...)

Flightattendant7 · 04/01/2009 11:30

Yes Filly, has anyone suggested it should have been a woman this time?

Alex K was fab as that person whose name I forget.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 04/01/2009 11:32

He still needs a bloody haircut

KayHarkerIsGlum · 04/01/2009 11:32

Multi-million pound brand indeed. Two-edged sword, imo, but I'm happy that it means we still have Who on our screens.

He does appear to have lovely skin. See, I can be positive. Can't say how much they need to sort out that hair, though.

Mind you, it's not beyond reason to not enjoy a particular regeneration. Some people hate McCoy (I quite like myself), and I have certain amount of depressed antipathy to Colin Baker, though I've warmed to him over time (he was the regeneration after my first real Doctor, and I don't think you are ever predisposed to like the replacement of a favourite).

OK, enough negative. What should he wear. Come on, help me out. What should he wear so he isn't TeenDoc in my head anymore?

JackieNo · 04/01/2009 11:36

Leather? Lots of leather?

bronze · 04/01/2009 11:37

give me some scissors!

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 04/01/2009 11:40

Leather won't work. He doesn't look like his bod's fit enough to carry it off.

What about dressing him like a grown up? You know, proper suit and shoes (apologies to DT - but he was able to carry THAT look off ). But I bet they go for jeans & t-shirt.

Or maybe a cross dresser?

serenity · 04/01/2009 11:41

He looks older at 26 than I did at 26 he isn't exactly boyband and freshfaced. I still think he's going to be good - I might be taking to much from the promo pictures, but I like tha idea of a darker Doctor. He said his heart was broken, maybe we're going to see him being a bit harder and emotionally self reliant?

BabyBaby123 · 04/01/2009 11:41

he reminds me of Billie Piper's husband for some reason!!

I suppose they've picked him in the hope he will stay longer than most of the others have

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 04/01/2009 11:44

I thought that Baby!

serenity · 04/01/2009 11:44

Oh xposted - we're onto clothes.

Hmmmm I like what he's wearing in the pictures, but it's too close to Tennant. Maybe layer him up a bit, hang must go google.

JackieNo · 04/01/2009 11:47

Hmm - looks OK in a suit, but a bit like an ad for Burton's. Hair's better in that pic.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 04/01/2009 11:48

Sorry, I meant that I also thought he might stick around longer, not that he looks like BP's hubs.

And I've just checked IMDB. He's actually only a month younger than BP, so if she were to crop up again, she shouldn't look like his mum.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 04/01/2009 11:50

Much better Jackie! OK, a bit Burton, but the suit works... as does the hair!

JackieNo · 04/01/2009 11:50

Quote from here:
"Like his character, Henry, in the play, he's good with older women." So maybe we'll be OK . (sorry - maybe I'll be OK)

serenity · 04/01/2009 11:50

OK.

He's the same age as Jared Padalecki and he's a Puppy looks fairly authoritive.

How about the layered look?

JackieNo · 04/01/2009 11:52

Maybe, serenity. Zebs - he was almost a professional footballer, so may still be quite fit.

KayHarkerIsGlum · 04/01/2009 11:56

Hair's much better in that one. Very male-model, though, not liking.

Can't do leather, CE did the pared-down leather jacket thing and did it well. They won't do jeans and t-shirt, that's just silly. And I can't see how it will be suit straight after DT. The promo pictures have been quite conspicuously bland, clothing wise, which makes sense for now.

A return to frills and a bit of velvet? Not really getting away from emo, there, maybe just veering closer to the edge of goth.

I could go with suit, if it was maybe a different period suit. A vague twist on the Pullman adaptations outfits, perhaps, late Victorian. Hmm, thinking...

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 04/01/2009 11:58

I don't fancy footballers, I fancy rugby players.

Aitch · 04/01/2009 12:02

codpiece?

KayHarkerIsGlum · 04/01/2009 12:03

How tall is he? We need stats, stat!
