I thought this started on 20th Sept. DH reckons he's seen a trailer saying it is tomorrow!

Does anyone know anything about this????

OP posts:
tortoiseshell · 28/09/2008 11:04

He did have Clare King didn't he? She was a fairly mature lady.

tortoiseshell · 28/09/2008 11:05

Clare and Brendan

Freckle · 28/09/2008 11:06

I think she might be a bit miffed to be coupled with Cherie Lungh, Stephanie Beacham and Ester Rantzen in the age stakes . And Claire King has a reputation for being very sexy.

FairLadyRantALot · 28/09/2008 11:10

oh yes, truely mature woman for Brendan... [evil smile emoticon]....
Vincent had a more mature partner last year, didn't he...but I thought he coped surprisingly well...
but I wonder how Louisa felt about his comment that finally he had a partner he sees a chance with, or some such thing....if I was Louisa I would be a bit pissed off about that one, lol....

fionaann · 28/09/2008 12:10

Funny how Arlene asked Austin if he had been taught ballroom at school - even if he had would not have made that much difference - but nobody mentions that Cherie is a professionally trained dancer. Maybe Arlene's comment to Christine about no experience at all in dance is the closest they are allowed to get? Can't wait for someone on ITT to bring this up. And when are they going to bring back the alternative panel to ITT?

All of the girls were much better than they looked in the group dance.

Very funny blog on Strictly womanwhotalkedtoomuch.blogspot.com/
Hits the nail on the head about most of the people in the show.

Carmenere · 28/09/2008 12:12

Surely that girl from SClub7 must have had lots of professional training too. In fact lots of them are stage school grads aren't they?

turquoise · 28/09/2008 12:14

Most actors will have had some level of dance training if they went to drama school. Three year's basic ballet, jazz, some tap, and probably ballroom for specific parts along with fencing etc. It's part of the deal.

Cherie Lunghi has had a long career and is bound to have had a bit of ballroom training for historical dramas at least.

tribpot · 28/09/2008 12:21

Love that blog, hysterical! One thing it did make me wonder, though, is why everyone bangs on about how difficult it is to dance if you're tall. Now, I have no idea being a shortarse but what's the issue? Jodie is surely used to the length of her arms and legs the same way I am, her muscles are proportionate, so what's the big deal?

Still in shock at the idea of singing a Beatles song in Spanish qualifying as salsa.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 28/09/2008 12:22

On the positive side, it makes much better (if less X-Facor style 'entertaining') tv, to have people who are overall fairly good.
I think the girl from S-Club is in the same bracket as Emma Bunton - both had done the pop dancing stuff, but weren't ballroom trained. But correct me if I'm wrong.

The question is, will Brendan do the whole 'I'm a bad boy rascal' schtick again? Now that is more than a little tired.

fionaann · 28/09/2008 12:22

I agree that all of the singers will have an advantage through their musicality plus having done dance numbers with their songs - though I think Rachel Stevens more so than Heather who is a proper singer with a band as opposed to a poppy singer in a group. And I guess that applies to Aleisha as well but she was just so warm and lovely I didn't focus on that. I just think that Cherie's training is more intense and relevant. Just a bit miffed that it wasn't even mentioned on the show and that Arlene picked on Austin when there were much more glaring examples.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 28/09/2008 12:33

Thanks for that link Fiona - very very funny.

FairLadyRantALot · 28/09/2008 12:38

tribpot...but the music just needs to have the correct rythm to match the dancestyle anyway...

Personally I love it when they use "typical" music for their danceroutines, rather then stuff that makes it hard to indentify the style of dance...i.e. I love proper tangomusic to be used for tango, a salsa song for the salsa, etc...

as for the tall thing...I think, it is meant to be harder to move gracefully if you have very long limps, because of the exactness of movement needed and the flowing of movement...but, of course that doesn't mean that all tall people can't move well But Penny last year had big problems with teh faster dances because the beat is so quick and her lenght just made it more difficult and made her look more clumsy.......

QueenBhannae · 28/09/2008 12:40

Have not read all the thread yet but having just watched the last two weeks strictly, can I just say AAAAARRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH about Karen and her blardy finger pointing routines. All that jabbing drives me mad even though I like Karen's personality as a whole.

Rant over

Heated · 28/09/2008 12:43

Think Gillian will go - maturish ladies don't really get the vote & the dance was forgettable.

Wonder how Cherie & Jodie Kidd will manage the latin?

Rachel & Vincent are uncomfortable watching - not the dancing but afterwards - does anyone else agree?

FairLadyRantALot · 28/09/2008 12:43

lol queen

fionaann · 28/09/2008 12:50

Before I go and do something and stop spending all day on this forum - does anyone remember Karen on ITT last year? She was there quite a lot as she exited so early. She was with that Philip guy who did the voiceover commentary - and where is that this year? - and there was some discussion about compatability among couples. Philip was saying something and Karen interrupted and said "What Philip is trying to say is they have what we call in the business (and here I was expecting some real professional insight) - a height difference."

I do like Karen's personality on the whole but agree she can sometimes be OTT - especially since her win with Mark.

cyteen · 28/09/2008 13:11

my sil really hates karen. i was shocked at first but now i'm starting to see what she means - the gurning, the finger pointing and yes, definitely the attitude all stink.

QueenBhannae · 28/09/2008 13:16

The gurning-yes! Urrgghh!
I am going to save her performances onto a dvd and watch them whenever I have housework to do. Given that I cannot sit through 3 seconds without screeching at the TV I should in theory have a spotless house by the end of the series...

Oblomov · 28/09/2008 17:05

Jessie to go. I think.
I hope Gary goes next week.

Tigerschick · 28/09/2008 17:32

LOL @ the comments about Karen.
I like her as a person and I think that she brings an interesting dimension to the discussions as she is competing but her full-time job is a s a professional judge; so she can see both sides of the argument.
That said ... I am finding her increasingly difficult to watch.

According to this page next week is just the chaps again, doing either a jive or a tango ... I was wondering how they were going to get all 14 couples done in one prog ... answer: they aren't! Makes you wonder where they'll stop ...

tortoiseshell · 28/09/2008 19:24

If you love watching dancing, here's a clip (not SCD) - beautiful moment

FairLadyRantALot · 28/09/2008 19:46

thanks for sharing that clip tortoise....I love Swayze as a dancer, but don't get all the swooning for him...lol...
what beautyful dancing!

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 28/09/2008 20:21

Loving tonight so far. I can't believe Brendan stormed off from Lisa afterwards. It might take her down a peg though.

And the new girl Hayley, shagging the captain of the All Blacks. You go girl!!

Back later....I think Jessie's going to wing another week as I bet she gets the sympathy vote to get her out of the bottom 2.

FairLadyRantALot · 28/09/2008 20:29

argh, missing tonight, because no tv....had a leak through the livingroom ceiling (burst pipe in the bathroom)...daren't turn the electricity on down there just yet...sigh...
