Am I the only one actually watching this?Surprised there's not a thread about it!
Must be one of the saddos that likes choir singing.

Mind you some of the contestants are not really my idea of a choir! [pulls on slippers and buttons up dressing gown!]

LOVED the young welsh choir and would have sulked if they hadn't been put through.

Thought that Sense of sound were brilliant on their second and third performaqnce but dire to start with.

ooh the welsh choir tonight made my spine tingle.

smartiejake · 19/07/2008 22:40

I can't believe they were not the judges first choice. Their harmonies were so tight and their first song was just fab. Couldn't beleive that blonde judge said it was relentless.

Enjoying it - gutted that Dreamz didn;t make it through but not really surprised after their last performance.

Btw, you don't happen to know what the track was playing over the Radio 1 Mallorca trailer that was straight after Last Choir Standing do you?

smartiejake · 19/07/2008 22:53

I thought that Dreamz were one of those contestants who made it through on a sympathy vote.

Wonderful sentiment and I applaud the lady who started it and the enthusiasm and commitment of the young people involved but they were in no way in the same league as any of the other choirs there this evening.

I know you're right but they made me cry - I'm such a sap

milge · 19/07/2008 23:00

Who got through then?
So pleased sense of sound were judges # 1 choice.

purplepumpkin · 19/07/2008 23:05

The Welsh ones.

iBundle · 19/07/2008 23:06

pants

purplepumpkin · 19/07/2008 23:07

What, the Welsh ones or the whole thing?

PeaMcLean · 20/07/2008 21:54

Am loving this programme. Saw it last night on my own and just watching it now with DH on catch up telly.

Fab fab fab.

EyeballsintheSky · 20/07/2008 22:01

What happened to the Brighton Gay Mens' Choir? I've never seen this show before but just caught them singing and it was great fun. Did they get knocked out?

smartiejake · 20/07/2008 22:08

Yes the Brighton Gay Men's choir went out. Their last performance was not that great TBH.

The welsh young choir (sorry not sure how to spell their name!)and the Sense of sound went throught to the final round.

sorry purplepumpkin, the whole thing

(am definitely not anti-welsh!)

tortoiseSHELL · 20/07/2008 23:14

Should have been the welsh one and the alleycats imo. Didn't like Sense of Sound.

But I think calling the programme 'last CHOIR standing' is a bit of a misnomer - they aren't interested in a standard 'choir' - they want dancing, pop songs etc - I think it should be called 'singing groups' rather than any reference to choirs.

PeaMcLean · 20/07/2008 23:22

Bundle, surely you're not anti-choir??? that's shocking! [disgusted emoticon]

iBundle · 21/07/2008 12:52

i love choirs

both my dd1 and dh are in choirs

but good ones

[maybe i'm spoiled emoticon]

bottersnike · 21/07/2008 12:57

Brilliant programme! There's always something that makes me cry, and always opportunities to agree / disagree with the judges.
Really looking forward to the Bath Male Voice Choir; they made my spine tingle!

The Alley cats were just awful. They were not very together as a choir and had no really good singers to take the lead parts.

I am looking forward to the Bath Choir too- they are very well lead and have such a fab sound.

Not sure though if the truly best choir will be left at the end if the public vote for them.

Next weeks heats i think will be really hard, there's some fab choirs in there. I really like Only Men Aloud..

I thought the AlleyCats were mildly irritating, OK singers and brilliant arrangement f the Faith / Valerie thing but man, I wanted to slap that MD.

Roll on Saturday

MrsJamin · 22/07/2008 12:37

Loved the programme last week. Alleycats did a fab "love machine" but the faith/valerie combo was a bit too confusing. cry me a river was my favourite song of the night. brighton male voice choir should have camped it up a bit more as they were a bit boring. Was sad to see dreamz go, I think given a year of better tuition from their new choirmaster would have given them a better shot. I think I'm alone in not really liking the welsh youth choir, I was a bit bored by them.

PheasantPlucker · 22/07/2008 12:43

I tuned in thinking it was connected to Gareth Malone who did the other choir things, and for whom I hold a ridiculous and secret burning torch..... Was a bit sad it was nothing to do with him, but watched for a bit anyway.

Agree that MD from Alleycats was a PITA. Liked the blonde American girl who sang the 'Valerie' bit though.

Was sad to hear from you that Dreamz have gone, I loved the idea of that choir, and they seemed so joyous being there and singing.

lilibet · 22/07/2008 19:59

I love this, I never lliked Russell Wason until I saw him on this.

Part of my beef with some of them was that they were 'choir as backing group', and not a proper choral performance.

auntyspan · 22/07/2008 21:10

Russell Watson irritates me beyond measure.

It's great that he's sold so many records and has such a 'tremendous' voice, but he's continually compared to professional opera stars - people who have spent years and years being taught and learning the hard way - about stamina and positioning and projection. Russell Watson has a great voice but he's not an opera singer - he couldn't sing a full opera FGS - that takes years of training - he sings songs from operas. He's an expert on selling hundreds of thousands of classical records which of course is an achievment, it just pisses me off that he's mentioned in the same breath as Pavarotti, bryn terfel and José Carreras....

Rant over

smartiejake · 22/07/2008 22:02

Such a shame Gareth Malone wasn't involved in this show (also have a secret crush on him Pheasant plucker !) I think it might have a little more credibility as none of the other judges are choir masters per se.

Agree about Russell Watson- I don't think he's that great either as a singer and who was that guy who sang "Nessun Dorma" on last Saturday's show- I thought he sounded like a strangled cat! Pavarotti would have turned in his grave. (He is dead isn't he?)
