Am I the only one actually watching this?Surprised there's not a thread about it!
Must be one of the saddos that likes choir singing.

Mind you some of the contestants are not really my idea of a choir! [pulls on slippers and buttons up dressing gown!]

LOVED the young welsh choir and would have sulked if they hadn't been put through.

Thought that Sense of sound were brilliant on their second and third performaqnce but dire to start with.

Cardiff lads to win I say

Shame it was between them and Last minute. And I don't get the fuss about Revelation, though it might be just cos gospel's really not my thing.

PheasantPlucker · 08/08/2008 14:52

Hey Gareth Lovers (hello Smartiejake!!) I have just seen that our man is on with the Proms tomorrow from 6.30. Oh be still my beating heart!!!!

auntyspan · 08/08/2008 14:56

I'd really like to seem something classical on Saturday from at least one of the choirs.... or am I being really old fashioned?!

MintChocAddict · 08/08/2008 15:04

Love this programme. I liked the boy's choir guesting on the results show a couple of weeks back doing Sail Away by Enya. Lovely!
Really want Only Men Allowed to win. There's one in particular (think it's the blonde one they interview all the time) whose voice really stands out. Gives me shivers!

ellceeell · 10/08/2008 19:58

I really enjoyed this programme this weekend. It seemed to me that the two weakest choirs were the ones who had to sing again - and that the judges made the right decision about which choir to save.
Are they doing the fake "separate" programme thing again with this? Saturday's show is promoted as live, then Sunday's recorded later on Sat night?

bandgeek · 10/08/2008 20:00

I missed the results, who were the bottom 2?

ellceeell · 10/08/2008 20:07

Result - SPOILER

Sense of Sound have been knocked out of the competition after going head-to-head with Revelation.

ellceeell · 10/08/2008 20:20

Now, why didn't it leave a space? Sorry if I've spoiled it for anyone.

auntyspan · 11/08/2008 21:31

You know what, it struck me last night that the big choirs are going to have a massive advantage over the smaller ones when it comes to the public vote. For every person in each choir they're going to have, say, 6 people ringing in for them - that's 60 for Only Men Allowed V about 400 for the chaps from Bath.....

I don't think Bath should be there but they aren't going anytime soon as they're so enormous. What do you ladies think?

ellceeell · 11/08/2008 23:17

I'm not so sure - if the Bath choir supporters are older (as shown in the programme - I'm not just being ageist )would they vote repeatedly? Whereas Only Men Allowed might have supporters who will put the voting number on redial and just keep voting.

smartiejake · 12/08/2008 22:27

I finally watched last weekend's shows tonight and definitely thought the weakest choir went out.

Thought the young welsh choir's (can't spell name!) version of Bohemian Rhapsody was very brave and rather good but a bit of a shaky start.

Sense of sound were dull and boring.

Both Male choirs were great but the only men alowed one was a bit too showy and I think the public do vote for all the fancy foot work.

Can't remember much about the gospels but as one of you said gospels not my thing. They all seem very shouty and relentless to me- no dynamic contrast.

I really agree aunty span the "old fogey" who said how about something classical?

Was on hols and Missed Gareth!!! Am heartbroken.

Has anyone realised that the beat box choir Gareth Malone got in to persuade some of the boys in "Boys don't sing" to join in was "sense of sound"

They sang "Cry me a river" there too and then got the boys to improvise to "Stand by me" and "Beautiful girl" (the song the choir sang at the Albert Hall in the final programme)

I had been racking my brains where I had seen them before.

SmartieJake he was looking GORGE!

smartiejake · 15/08/2008 19:40

Shall we start a fan club?

I enjoyed this tonight - lots of good singing. When Ysgol Glanaethwy sang "O Fortuna (Carmen Burana)" by Carl Orff it made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck - cliche but true!

I felt sorry for the Bath choir, but I think it was right that they went.

I'm going to see We will Rock You next week! Really looking forward to it. I bet Sharon was great.

MrsJamin · 17/08/2008 09:41

I love ACM gospel choir - they really are very talented, and the MD does brilliant arrangements. Also I love Only Men Aloud - their Goldfinger was really quite sexy! Bath choir were right to go - they were just a 'good' choir, nothing special. Although I did like their second song.

Not sure why Revelation are in the top 4 - I think the male singer is great but they don't do very complex or interesting arrangements, it annoyed me how they were chosen last week for doing an exact replica of Lovely Day by Kirk Franklin - there was zero originality. Sense of Sound fell down in trying to be too clever in their arrangements - it didn't communicate to a wider audience. They were the front-runners I thought, they should have been in the final.

I predict this:

  1. ACM gospel choir
  2. Only Men Aloud
  3. Ysgol Glanaethwy
  4. Revelation
bluesky · 17/08/2008 19:01

I like all 4 that are left. Revelation have always been my favourite, they just make you beam, especially when they did the Take That song. They always give you a lift.

Only Men Aloud are great and smiley. But I think Ysgol are really coming through now, they are very versatile and have a great musical director.

But then I always love the gospel. Very hard to choose!

ellceeell · 23/08/2008 21:15

I was surprised that the judges liked Revelation so much tonight - I thought that they were the worst! Perhaps it sounds very different when it is live.

Bewilderbeast · 23/08/2008 21:37

I love Revelation they sing with soul but I'm sad that ACM Gospel have gone out, their energy is amazing

purplemunkey · 23/08/2008 21:43

I really like ACM too but was a bit disappointed with thier Clash of the Choirs song tonight - it was totally lifted from Sister Act 2.

Everything else they had done was really original (I hope it was anyway!)

I thought they should have gone through over Ysgol thingamybob though

Oh well!

smartiejake · 26/08/2008 23:56

Finally just caught up with this on sky+ this evening. Had to watch the results show on the computer as they had changed it from sunday (thank god for BBC i-player!)

Loved men aloud- they are all such good singers. Can't understand why Revelation came ahead of ACM who I thought were far superior.

The young welsh choir are just fab though especially considering their age.

Not sure how the voting will go as it's up to the public next week.

Should be Only men aloud in terms of arrangements, vocal ability and tightness of harmonies (and trousers!)
