I managed to close off the last thread without realising and couldn’t see a new one, so here you go!

(but I do agree that this time around, things are a bit different. As Martina said earlier- success begets success)

Sascha cannot rest on his laurels.

He has lost from this point before.

True

Why is there someone in a wheelchair on the court?

I have no idea! I had to re-wind it, because I was a bit confused.

I thought he was a protester at first but they said he is a retired player. I don’t know what is going on any more Grin

I'm tired, and this is the most nuts tournament.

I don't even think they want to play tennis.

I fully expect Trump tp have decided the final is to be a baseball match.

Raahh · 11/09/2026 22:32

What

is wrong with his shirt?

Unfortunately for us Trump is headed here but at least he’s going to be nowhere near me and he won’t delay the final this year.

I don’t know but Mischa’s face cracks me up with his complete indifference to whatever the problem is Grin

Oh gawd- the delay to the final was the most annoying thing. Not to mention the fact he fucked odd after about an hour.

Tosser.

Eric Trump was on the radio today saying he’s been to Ireland more times than any other American. Like father, like son!

He's probably thinking - what can possibly be wrong with a shirt.

As am I.

It looks ok?

JaneJeffer · 11/09/2026 23:02

Both players are complaining about the sun glinting off the doors to the hospitality suite!

JaneJeffer · 11/09/2026 23:16

Well done Sascha

kazzaD66 · 12/09/2026 00:00

It's crazy that 9/11 was 25 years ago. I remember watching it at work, made worse by having a couple of colleagues from the New York office in London at the time.

DS was 23 today (again, don't know where the time has gone!!). I wanted to keep a copy of a newspaper on the day he was born, to look back on in the future, but it was still full of 9/11 and Osama bin Laden, so didn't bother Sad

Adrian Mannarino wasn’t impressed with the US Open:
"Now people are allowed to move around in the stands during points. Before, people weren't allowed to enter the court except during side changes.
Now they come in any which way, they move around, they talk. It's the tournament that tolerates this, and I don't know if it's the best idea for the game in general.
You can smell weed on the court, there's noise coming from everywhere, it's becoming a bit of a zoo, really. These are some really particular playing conditions."

You don’t get that sort of thing at Wimbledon. Tim would have conniptions if anyone suggested allowing it there.

And that is why I love Wimbledon and don't like the US Open (amongst other reasons)Grin

Well done Alfie and Gordon on winning the doubles. Alfie also in the singles final but I can't see him beating Oda, unfortunately.

magimedi · 12/09/2026 09:41

The only bit of the US Open I have enjoyed is all the chat that goes on here! Can't watch it so rely on you lot. Probably wouldn't watch it, even if I could.

JaneJeffer · 12/09/2026 10:02

Happy Belated Birthday to your DS kazza

IceandIndigo · 12/09/2026 10:06

So the men’s final is going to be Sascha vs Ben. I’m not really a fan of either player, but feel like Ben deserves it after coming through a much tougher draw.

If anyone is interested in going to the Laver Cup, there’s a special ticket offer from the Mayor of London. It’s first in first served. I was able to buy cheap tickets for the Sunday session. Here’s the link:

Raahh · 12/09/2026 10:43

I won't be forcing myself to stay awake to watch the men's final (it will be repeated Monday morning anyway [grin)- I'm not really that fussed. I did like Big Foe's team in their matching t-shirts, and I wanted him to win. I liked his pink socks. Too many aces from Ben though.

I'm not bothered by the women's either. Aryna is too noisy, and Elena leaves me a bit cold.

It really is not my favourite tournament - of any , slams or smaller ones. Though I like the ball kids kit. That's the classiest bit. Grin.

I think the wheelchair events have been the only ones that I'm even slightly invested in the outcome! (though I always like to see Siniakova win).

IceandIndigo · 12/09/2026 12:19

I feel similarly about the women’s final Raahh. Those two always play close matches, which should be compelling, but somehow it isn’t. I’m not a particular fan of Coco or JPeg either, so I sort of lost interest after it was those four in the SF.

kazzaD66 · 12/09/2026 16:12

We're at my in-laws today and, unlike us, they have Sky, so DS and I thought we could watch the men's doubles final, but their box is on the blink and still waiting for an engineer to come out and fix it Hmm
DS is trying to get it going whilst we're here Grin

kazzaD66 · 12/09/2026 17:50

Well done Alfie!! You proved me wrong!! Saw the last few points and Alfie was very emotional. Oda had won the previous 6 GSs.

JaneJeffer · 12/09/2026 18:06

Well done Alfie. I’m delighted for him. Didn’t get to watch.

IceandIndigo · 12/09/2026 18:22

Oh well done Alfie. I thought Oda was unbeatable at this point.
