I managed to close off the last thread without realising and couldn’t see a new one, so here you go!

I don't know if I want to watch the trophy celebration- recent ones have spent way too much time with the directors waffling.

If looks like this one is starting with the players. So that's good.

Robin and Ashlyn are so sweet

Raahh · 11/09/2026 19:07

They look totally confused.

I’m already bored with this match. Sasha is doing my head in with his endless ball bouncing and fiddling with his jewellery.

I started flippng over to my recording of Masterchef after about 10 minutes.

I'm really not bothered by this tournament now, to be honest.

I’ve just put it on Grin

Yoy probably missed the preamble then, which involved more anthem singing, due to the 9/11 anniversary.

Martina was funny though- they were talking about being nervous before big matches and Martina was like meh, I wasn't fussed about semi finals, I was only thinking about winning the whole thing Grin

JaneJeffer · 11/09/2026 21:10

I was looking at the date this morning wondering why it meant something and it was only when they mentioned 9/11 on the radio that it clicked 🙈

Raahh · 11/09/2026 21:20

I can't get my head around it being 25 years- it really does feel very recent. I remember watching it all happen in the tvs at work.

Most of the players in the tournament were either not born, or very, very young.
Very few will be old enough to have any memory of it.

ChessieFL · 11/09/2026 21:36

Same here Raahh. It really doesn’t feel like 25 years ago.

So much has happened to me since. I had no idea at the time, that a few months later I would be pregnant with ds.

But at the same time- it feels like yesterday.

Raahh · 11/09/2026 21:42

Honestly, they have made a rod for their own back- as Jonathan has said. They let people wander about at the US Open- and then they do that on the courts as well.

Ban it all, I sayGrin.

Raahh · 11/09/2026 21:44

What happened to Sascha cutting his hair after he won a slam? what's he waiting for now? winning all 4 ? Grin

(Although it's preferable to the shaved look, by a long shot).

Raahh · 11/09/2026 21:53

The spectators really need to be kept out of the game, if they can't be back in time when the next game has already started. It's getting ridiculous now.

All so they can feed their faces. Hmm.
Watch the bloody match.

JaneJeffer · 11/09/2026 21:55

Adrian Mannarino wasn’t impressed with the US Open:
"Now people are allowed to move around in the stands during points. Before, people weren't allowed to enter the court except during side changes.
Now they come in any which way, they move around, they talk. It's the tournament that tolerates this, and I don't know if it's the best idea for the game in general.
You can smell weed on the court, there's noise coming from everywhere, it's becoming a bit of a zoo, really. These are some really particular playing conditions."

It's really rubbish- and I think zoo sums it up. but the powers that be think they are encouraging ' the youth' and money, and people who play basketball and all that crap.

I want to watch tennis. I want to want tennis players, dressed as tennis players.

There are some players - mostly US ones, or the likes of Kyrgios- who think the changes are good. I'm not entirely sure why.

But maybe Kyrgios likes the smell of weed.

JaneJeffer · 11/09/2026 22:09

I’m team scrap the shot clock Jonathan

100%

Stupid bloody thing.

Raahh · 11/09/2026 22:12

oof- that was a tough tie break.

JaneJeffer · 11/09/2026 22:12

I knew Sascha would win it

Raahh · 11/09/2026 22:13

Sascha cannot rest on his laurels.

He has lost from this point before.

JaneJeffer · 11/09/2026 22:14

Why is there someone in a wheelchair on the court?
