Help me remember the actor's name

Just to satisfy my itching brain!
Had a dream last night which featured an actor walking across a car park. He seemed familiar and I'm sure he's a real person.
The problem is, I can't think of much detail.
He's the sort of person who'd be in drama things like murder mysteries or maybe period dramas of the 1920s/1930s - he'd be playing a hotel proprietor type character.
I think he's fairly tall. He's an older actor - or at least, was then - he may have died.
White hair, with a bit of a wave, sometimes worn slicked back. A bit 'jowly' but not with a particularly wide face and has a moustache.
It's NOT Richard Griffiths. There's a similarity but the actor I'm thinking of has a narrower face than that and I don't think he has glasses.

Any ideas?

I know he was a filmmaker rather than an actor but the description made me think of Alfred Hitchcock. Although he didn't have wavy hair, or much hair at all.

(Sorry if someone already said him.)

David Suchet? Peter Ustinov?

Love these kind of threads! And a spreadsheet! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Top stuff OP.
It's not going to be him but it strikes me that one thing Griffiths and Ustinov both have that I don't think has been mentioned (but I haven't RTFT) is slightly crossed/dodgy eyes. So on those grounds I'm chucking in Marty Feldman as a wild card (he certainly was a bit wild!)
And for some reason - same era - that's made me think of Frankie Howerd. But I don't think it's him, either. 😂

Richard Durden?
Danny Webb?
Nicholas Farrell?

Nicholas Farrell is a good shout - I think he wears a cream suit in those Saga cruise adverts or whatever it is. He does have a bit of a Griffiths/Ustinov love child vibe going on there.

John Challis - No. Not Trigger.

Even that. I didn't like OFAH, hence the confusion.

Was it Samantha Bond?

(one for the old timeys there)

🤣. And just like the original thread you’ve mentioned her on page two, so that when OP gets to page 38 and decides that it was, indeed, Samantha Bond all along, we could all have saved ourselves half a day of guessing. 🤣

I've just seen Paddington 2 on the telly. Are you mixing up young and old Tom Conti, OP?

Definitely has that sort of vibe but a bit less suave.
