Help me remember the actor's name

Just to satisfy my itching brain!
Had a dream last night which featured an actor walking across a car park. He seemed familiar and I'm sure he's a real person.
The problem is, I can't think of much detail.
He's the sort of person who'd be in drama things like murder mysteries or maybe period dramas of the 1920s/1930s - he'd be playing a hotel proprietor type character.
I think he's fairly tall. He's an older actor - or at least, was then - he may have died.
White hair, with a bit of a wave, sometimes worn slicked back. A bit 'jowly' but not with a particularly wide face and has a moustache.
It's NOT Richard Griffiths. There's a similarity but the actor I'm thinking of has a narrower face than that and I don't think he has glasses.

Any ideas?

You're right - it's not him.
I think he's TOO tall, and too slim, comparatively. And probably younger.

I get a feeling he's one of those people that's been in a lot of things but not as a main character.

No. Hugh's forehead is way too high. "My" actor has/had a good head of hair and a 'standard' hairline.
Possibly someone from that sort of era though, or a bit older who might have acted with the pair of them.

Neither of them. They're a bit too 'conventionally handsome'.

No. But possibly someone born around the same sort of time as him, or possibly a bit older.

Too young, too female, not jowly enough and not enough moustache.

Not him. But - looking at pictures of him then - keep that sort of suit, make the moustache less poirot-ey, make his hair whiter and more sort of swept up/back (on top rather than to the side), make the face a bit longer and that's heading the right way.

Too much forehead/balding and wrong face shape.

I wish I could say Ding Dong you were right but no. Leslie Philips is/was more conventionally handsome than whoever it is I am trying to recall to mind.

look up IMDB for the cast lists of televised Agathe Christie etc and see if you find the one you're looking for ?

No. But looking at how Robert Allam's chin relates to his neck in this picture, that's what I mean by 'jowly'.
The hairline is too high and hair too grey here.
