DCI Amy Silva (Suranne Jones, Gentleman Jack) and DI Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie, Game of Thrones) are back to investigate a murder in the Arctic.

Just about every major world power has its eye on Svalbard, a Norwegian archipelago. Melting ice caps open up the possibility for resource extraction and trade routes, and Russia, China and the UK are all interested.

A diplomatic quagmire is created by the murder of a member of the British special forces, meaning Amy and Kirsten have to tread more carefully than ever before.

Dominic Mafham (The Clinic) will reprise his role as MI5 official Ian Downing.

Joining him this series will be Jeppe Beck Laursen (The Last Kingdom) as Svalbard police chief Henrick Becken and Naomi Yang (Under Salt Marsh) as microbiologist Shen Jia.

Tornike Gogrichiani (Drops of God) will round out the cast as a Russian Colonel and Eric Godon (In Bruges) as Mayor Korotayev.

Vigil returns on Sunday 30 August.

DH and I both groaned as soon as they left their ATVs with the damn keys in. I mean, who DOES that? These are supposed to be highly trained senior police! And of course Silva's communication device was on her ATV, which the traitorous Norwegian stole…..and she failed to stop him! She didn’t even try to shoot the tyres of the vehicle. I give up with these useless idiots.

Even I, who knows nothing about guns etc wondered why Kirsten didn’t shoot at the tyres.

It is possible that a gun meant to kill/incapacitate a polar bear wouldnt do
much to rugged ATV tyres. Or that Amy didn’t feel confident of her aim with a polar bear rifle
not to hit Jia.

Yes it was pretty boring wasn’t it and so far-fetched!

The acting is also really bad including the 2 main characters! Very stilted and you can tell they are reading a script.

It really didn’t deserve a 3rd series.

im still gutted who they killed in s1 in the first few mins

Not sure if there is an iplayer glitch but the last 2 episodes were available this morning so I have seen them both. It does get better.

I don’t know if I agree, I just found it all very confusing! Not really sure I understand any of the last 2 episodes but no spoilers here 😂

I’ve watched till the end of series and I liked it. Yes, a bit confusing, but that’s Vigil for you.

So you have the US, the Russians, the Chinese and the British all spying on each other and no CCTV in the corridors of either the Science block or the Russian compound.

It’s very confusing

Honestly I finished it yesterday and couldn’t tell you what happened, it was an episode of pure confusion, trying to be a bit too clever imo. Either that or I’m thicker than i thought 😂 didn’t really enjoy it at all.

So I gathered Ian was dodgy as when did the phone call to bald man he said who was in the room and she didn’t want to talk in front of him

Of course, none if this could happen without ‘granny’ in the background taking care of a teenager and a toddler at a moment’s notice, without so much as a thank you, while both mums are capering about at home and abroad for days/weeks on end!

The last episode was the best one. I had Sir Ian down as a baddie all along.

I'm really struggling to hear all the dialogue but no one else seems to have mentioned that so I am concluding it must be my hearing...
