Is anyone else watching?

I can’t say a lot because it’s very outing but I grew up with this family. So surreal seeing it all like this. They’re some of my earliest memories.

The part I found most upsetting was his sister saying how she can still hear him screaming when they were changing his feeding tube. That's evil.

It's a bit scary that she's out of prison now and just wandering around in the community. Who knows who her next victims will be and what she's capable of

She’s remarried so you can only imagine what type of things happen in that house

There's an Instagrammer that was being talked about on Tattle a few years back and her young son was dying from cancer. The procedures that that little lad went through in his last 2 weeks was nothing short of horrific and I'm convinced that it was all just for content. No loving parent would have subjected that boy to repeated trips into theatre that just prolonged his suffering, and frankly I'm appalled that the medics engaged with it too.

It’s harrowing. I remember it so clearly, I was terrified of stepping foot outside of my house because she told me it could happen to me! She was desperate for attention

What a thing to say to a little kid!

Haven’t watched this yet, but I recently watched that doc about Ruby Frankie the Mormon influencer who had six children and the story is similar. Also, the children’s father is interviewed at length during that and it’s incredible that he claims he didn’t know what was happening. (Doc available on Disney and BBC).

This review thinks the mother got off lightly and there are more questions than answers.

I think the dad in that had been banished from the home and not been allowed to see the kids for a year. It was tied up in the religion and him being banished was penance for some made up reason

I can still picture the exact scene she described to me. I struggle in the dark even now because of it

Was she prosecuted for the false report of rape ? The way she said it didn't happen but to her it still happened had me perplexed. She obviously has some kind of mental illness that craves pity and attention, or got caught in lies and decided the only way to get out of trouble was to tell more lies

I think in the programme she was asked to give a recount from her perspective and she says something like she was driving along and saw a bike and that’s all she can remember. She doesn’t remember a single other thing. And knows it’s not real - now.
It’s really unclear (deliberately!!) what she’s getting at.
What a liar.
I don’t even think she’s participating in this interview to try and convince people she’s telling the truth, I don’t think she even believes her own lies, she’s just doubling down to cover her shame and embarrassment. What a dreadful excuse of a ‘mother’. I can’t believe she’s been given airtime on this but I suppose it’s confirmation for anyone who knew her who ever wondered if she was wrongfully imprisoned!

TheLarkAscendingRose · 20/08/2026 15:41

Matthew's sister looked so uncomfortable and confused when the mum was saying on TV he couldn't eat.

I think she's enjoying the renewed attention she's getting.

I thought so too her eyes gave her away

cramptramp · 20/08/2026 15:50

Haven’t watched last night’s yet but I’m assuming the reason the mother agreed to do this programme was for the attention. She couldn’t possibly have thought she’d get sympathy for it? I don’t agree she thought the SA had really happened. She just got caught out lying again so had to say that.

PensionPTake · 20/08/2026 16:43

I haven't watched it yet. What happened to the children after their mum was convicted, did their dad raise them?

They haven’t got that far in the programme yet.

After a social services investigation, yes.

These cases of FII seem to be way more prevalent than I could have ever imagined. I'm only just getting over the magic documentary!

autumnleavesonthefloor · 20/08/2026 21:28

Watching this episode is infuriating. She really doesn’t see the error of her ways

She’s just trying to save face. She’s managed to convince her new husband and new friends etc that she was wronged.
I mean she’s doing a terrible job in light of the rest of what the documentary has revealed so far, there’s not one ounce of me that thinks she’s told the truth about any of it!

Hihosilver123 · 20/08/2026 22:04

Is there another episode?

ohtowinthelottery · 20/08/2026 22:12

@Hihosilver123Yes it's on at 10.00 straight after episode 2

JuneBabyBug · 20/08/2026 22:44

I still can't wrap my head around how the medicines and oxygen / NG tube/ feeds were prescribed....who prescibed? Did it not go to a MDT? Was he not checked (weight/ obs) regularly?
My sibling was in hosptial in the early 2000s and they only prescibed build up/ tube fed once my sibling went down to a certain weight and we had a district nurse regularly check in when my sibling was out of hosptial (thankfully my sibling responded to treatment and was well again within 18 months) It really baffles me that in those six years it wasn't questioned....was his obs normal / stable during hospital admissions? Why was he then sent home with oxygen if they were stable esp during a long stay. So my questions!

AnnaMagnani · 20/08/2026 22:49

Matthew was significantly premature so probably started out with the NG feed and oxygen appropriately. He then got better as he grew and didn't need them but it sounds as if his mum fought any attempt to remove them.

Spareincoming · 20/08/2026 22:51

I’m watching Ep2. Is she in a wheelchair? The camera has dropped to her hand on the armrest a few times.

Activelife · 20/08/2026 23:03

My honest opinion.
I watched about 15 minutes of it found it boring tbh, i feel bad for the kids i really do and i hope they get all the help they need to work past it and make happy long lives for themselves.
But why give more attention to this vile women she as no place on earth and no place on my screen.

Nopeasinapasty · 20/08/2026 23:06

My heart genuinely aches for Laura, knowing that she was being used to further her mother's agenda, and being placed in the position where she couldn't enjoy her own childhood because she's been made to be responsible for her brother.

Lisa just comes across still so manipulative. Laura talking about her mother's 'blips' where she'd regress to 5 years old and self harm to peppa pig is just appalling

constantnc · 20/08/2026 23:11

I would hope that this couldn't happen now.
I know several tube fed children who are in regular contact with feeding teams and reviewed by the mdt. Electronic records mean that dna letters are easily flagged and communications between hospitals is better.

But...i also know children whose mothers greatly exaggerate their childs needs/behaviour in the adhd/asd field. With no medical tests etc medical professionals rely hugely on the parents feedback.
