apologies is there is another thread, I did look but couldn’t see.

Anyway, season 5 has dropped today, and whether you like Jeremy or not, he does highlight most how difficult it is to be a farmer in this day and age

Lisa with her sheep and snails Grin

Thank you for alerting this to me, @Soubriquet ! Any farm programmes (positive or negative) are a hot topic of conversation at work whenever they're on... mainly because it's the only type of programme that we all definitely watch. You'd be mistaken for thinking that we all get tired of farming all day, but no, that's what we watch on TV/streaming, too...

I'm surprised that they still have sheep after Jeremy's early experiences, and they kept escaping and destroying the walls! They are addictive, though, once the post-lambing exhaustion with sheep ("I'm never lambing/buying sheep again!") wears off 😁

Soubriquet · 03/06/2026 10:53

You’re welcome

Not every episode has dropped yet,, annoying

Thank you for the heads-up.

I'm hoping it's going to be better than the last series. I didn't like the pub being the main focus.

PercyPigFan73 · 03/06/2026 11:31

Will watch the first 2 tonight and try not to binge 😃

IAmKerplunk · 03/06/2026 21:10

I’m on ep4. Love this series.

Kirschcherries · 04/06/2026 13:01

I really enjoyed the episodes. As an F1 fan Oscar was so funny.

They have again included new perspectives which I like plus it does show the heartbreak of being a farmer - bye bye pigs 😢.

The reality of running the pub restaurant is also shown. Not even overwhelming success can turn a profit if your pricing is too low.

mondaytosunday · 04/06/2026 13:11

I’m glad the two old lady pigs were going to a petting farm - I wondered why they didn’t keep a couple as pets themselves but I guess it’s the upkeep. Loved the sheep Lisa bought - so cute! But she does seem to jump in without thinking. How she though 30 geese were going to last more than one night on the menu considering the dozen of diners she had there!
The grotto idea - very funny and love Charlie’s role as voice of reason in face of Jeremy’s over enthusiasm! The trip to the Netherlands was extremely interesting, but I do fear for the jobs of farm workers! They didn’t really address that other than a passing remark from Caleb.

ChipDaleRescueRangers · 04/06/2026 13:21

Was it just crying at the Santa's Grotto? We had to pause it to stop laughing.

Santa's reaction to the goat sticking his head through the window to eat the Christmas tree 🤣

Soubriquet · 04/06/2026 14:28

The Netherlands technology farming is amazing to see, and you can see in the long run, they could potentially help farmers keep costs down, however, it does also pose a lot of risk to people’s jobs. It’s scary

And Kaleb smashing into the window. 🤣🤣

We’ve watched the first 4 and I’m enjoying it more than the last season as like a pp we felt that it was too focused on the setting up of the pub .

Same. They clearly still mention the pub because of advertising, but Im glad it’s back to the actual farming.

R.W the thefts. Im not surprised people are stealing pint glasses. That is regularly stolen from numerous pubs, but why lightbulbs and urine traps? That can’t be something to brag about surely?

”Look at this urine trap! I stole it from The Farmer’s Dog”

Doesnt sound very impressive does it?

Only seen the first two, will watch the last two tonight, but I was crying laughing at the goat eating the Christmas tree, Kaleb running into the glass and the vet doing the post mortem on the sheep and then announcing his findings "yup, its well dead" 😂

Whataflippincircus · 04/06/2026 15:40

I’ve always actively disliked Clarkson but I love this series and I’ve warmed to him. He’s done a lot for farmers, who seem to love him.

I will definitely be watching.

the80sweregreat · 04/06/2026 15:49

It’s the other characters in this show which help make it entertaining too. The no nonsense Charlie , the vet, Kaleb and Lisa and her wacky ways , Gerald.
It has given me so much information about farming. I’m surprised anyone whats to do it considering how hard it all is. I didn’t have any idea really , but every week they say ‘ oh, this is hundreds, that’s thousands’ it’s eye watering how much they have to shell out for.

JennyForeigner · 04/06/2026 20:33

Charlie, my secret crush 🥰

'budget in the sheets, correctly filed subsidy paperwork in the streets'

tinyspiny · 04/06/2026 20:35

I particularly like Charlie and Lisa , could do with less Kaleb and more of them 2 .

EverardDeTroyes · 05/06/2026 22:41

What has happened to Richard Ham? Apart from appearing in the retrospective at the end of Ep 4, I missed any mention of him. Did he go the same way as the other pigs? 😢 I watch this programme to pick me up from the troubles in my own life, but that was a sad end to the episode. Why don't they get in a more profitable breed of pig if the Gloucester Old Spots aren't viable? To be honest, I like the animal bits the best. The emphasis on the technology this series is not doing it so much for me.

the80sweregreat · 06/06/2026 09:07

I don’t mind seeing the tech and the new machines, but I think it showed that the old ways are the best sometimes, plus he is lucky enough to be able to buy these huge machines worth thousands and many farms can’t I suppose. There is also an element of control over how much they want this modern technology, unlike many jobs where it’s brought in to cut down on the workforce without much thought to job losses. They still have to maintain these machines and so on and what to do when it doesn’t work. It was fascinating seeing the future, but you still need people around to do the other things machines can’t.

I think the companies lend him the machines for the publicity. He doesnt buy them.

the80sweregreat · 06/06/2026 09:56

Oh ok! Makes sense they are on loan for promotion purposes. I thought he may have bought one.
The old ways still seem to be the best though ( as demonstrated)

The old ways definitely have their place, but if farmers are able to save money and time on things like fertilising their fields and weed killing specific areas, then the tech comes in handy too

Yes, these time saving machines must be popular. I found it interesting, at least it made a change to see the future.
