Clarkson’s Farm season 5

Anyway, season 5 has dropped today, and whether you like Jeremy or not, he does highlight most how difficult it is to be a farmer in this day and age

I wondered the same thing! Sadly I think the same fate has befallen him and he went off to be made into sausages.....

Hopefully Clarkson will get more pigs, he seems very fond of them. But if Sandy & Blacks don't have much meat on them then it doesn't make financial sense to rear them for that purpose. I totally understand why he made the decision.

Does anyone know if they actually had the grotto there all Christmas or was it just a set up for the one scene?

Nothing goes right for farmers. Far too wet last year ( biblical rain he described it as ) and this year it’s too dry. I don’t know why his farm hasn’t an irrigation system in use of some kind. Must be a reason? It’s never mentioned is it.

Have really enjoyed watching it, I had never realised (prior to the first series) just how difficult it is for farmers.

I think he has done a lot of good in raising awareness of the issues faced. I like that he admits he is lucky in that he has other jobs to top up his income and realises that others are not so lucky.

It’s great entertainment - I have cried and have laughed - am looking forward to the next episodes.

It is very entertaining isn’t it. I love his enthusiasm for things and down to earth personality.
He admits that he can only do this because he has money and other jobs. At least he is honest and knows that others don’t have it easy. It feels that if it’s not the government putting a spanner in the works , it’s the weather doing it. It’s not an easy life.

With his heart problems, I can’t help wondering what would happen to the farm if he dies and what would happen to Lisa. Lisa is so lovely and down to earth. She seems fully in with farming and comes up with some wacky projects, I’m thinking snails.

I’m loving Season 5. When that calf pooed on him and Kaleb laughed, it was hilarious.

I’m sure that Jeremy Clarkson and Lisa have lots of financial advice for the businesses and wills in place.
Lisa ( so I believe anyway ) was independently wealthy prior to moving into the farm, so I’m sure they are sorted out in that respect. Part of the reason for buying a farm in the first place was to get around IHT for his children ( this was mentioned by him during the first season , episode one ) So I’m sure they are well aware of how it’ll be divided up. Probably quite complex I bet as he is very wealthy.

Did anyone else feel the fate of the grouse (or whatever they were) was surely inevitable as soon as they were turned loose onto open land?

Absolutely , and to leave that last poor bird out there was just plain stupidity as everyone knows foxes return until they’ve killed everything .

Well we now know Richard Ham and buddy are being kept in as pets. Yea the grouse - I thought they should shut them up at night!
@WhataflippincircusI too always thought Clarkson a right twat but this show has definitely shown a different side and that he’s happy to appear absolutely clueless and ridiculous. He seemed genuinely moved when he helped that cow give birth.
They do edit it very well and have got the right characters in place. Lisa I’m less fond of than others on here - she does seem to have a sense of entitlement (all that ‘I don’t care what the regulations say I want to sell X in the shop’) and is not the brightest. Not sure I’ll be using her snail slime skin creams! And they need subtitles with Gerald as I don’t think I’ve understood more than five words he’s uttered! I’d like to know what he’s actually saying!

Am I the only one who feels that autonomous tractors, soil surveys, smart drilling and circular farming are the way forward ?

If a tractor can work 24/7, it makes sense to get one as a collective.

I don’t mind Lisa, but she does come across a bit cold sometimes. . I think she is someone who doesn’t have lots of friends and is a bit selective with who she hangs out with and very independent .
I do like Gerald , they do the subtitles for some of his conversations , but not for all of it! lol
I thought the new machines were on loan ( as mentioned here ) but it seems he has bought them ? Wasn’t made that clear, but to have it all on the computers like that seems to indicate he did buy them? Or a long lease maybe?

We are already required to do soil surveys. If we had tractor collectives who would have priority when grain was ready to harvest.

I think the Lisa not caring about regulations is a bit of a standing joke across all the series now , so it’s in as a joke and if I’m remembering correctly at one point they had an Irish relative over to do something and he was exactly the same hence adding to the joke .

I have loved it so far. The hot sauce was so funny. Love how they’ve kept Richard Ham but from the trailer for the next episodes, I am now worried about End Game.

That they would be killed by foxes was a foregone conclusion, felt pretty cruel to be honest.

Re the guinea fowl, I think I remember Jeremy enthusing when they were acquired and put out in their little hut that they would roost in the trees safely away from foxes.

I did wonder ...

The fact that one (briefly) managed to get up a tree to safety, yet still succumbed to the vexatious vulpine did make me wonder if there was a little bit of natural in action ?

(Full disclosure, I know a much about farming as most city dwellers ...)

He’s making shed loads out of this series too. It’s just a game to him really. I don’t warm to him. Weirdly I do like the show though! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also felt a little sad for Kaleb with the dam building/government grant fiasco.

Jeremy himself understands exactly how the funding system works and it obviously a set up with Kaleb’s reaction a genuine one.

Also didn’t like the implications and digs that this was a waste of public monies, given the flooding issues we face slowing runoff water down can be key.

Be interesting to read into that particular grants background, I’m confident it would only be in select locations and on specific waterways.

I don’t disagree grant specs and compliance are an absolute bugger in general.
