I've realised, because of the way Wimbledon do things, Maja won't get irect entry to Wimbledon, despite being ranked 21 now, because they have a cut off of 6 weeks before the tounrnament. She will have to go through qualifying. Which has always seemed dumb to me, given how many points are on offer at RG, and how close it is to Wimbledon- it stands to reason, there are players who will be affected by this. Lois Boisson was the same last year, after her massive run at RG.

More annoying, is the fact I can see a situation where Venus or Serena will get a WC , if they decide to play singles.

Yes, it is bizarre. And Maja probably isn’t high enough to get lucky if there’s enough withdrawals - think there would need to be about 12 for her to get in automatically which is quite unlikely.

it's really not right. She will qualify for the US Open, and more than likely, be seeded. But it's a poor show that a breakout star won't get an automatic spot at the next slam .

I've a felling it may be some throwback to when Wimbledon was able to dictate their own seedings, based on previous grass wins. Wins on clay would not count. Maybe?
