ITV's Believe Me follows the harrowing true story of the victims of black cab rapist John Worboys

In total there are four episodes in the series.
You can watch the first episode of Believe Me on Sunday, May 10, on ITV1 and ITV (https://www.walesonline.co.uk/all-about/itv) X from 9pm.

The second episode will then air the following day on Monday, May 11.

The third episode and fourth episodes will then air the following week on Sunday, May 17, and Monday, May 18.

ITV is set to air a harrowing major new drama following the true story of how the victims of one of the most prolific sex attackers in British history were failed by the system.

Believe Me tells the story of black cab rapist John Worboys who preyed on women who trusted him as a licensed taxi driver.

When they would get in the back of his cab in the 2000s he would drug and sexually assault them.

He was convicted in 2009 for crimes including sexual assault and drugging with intent against 12 women between 2006 and 2008, with their cases selected from a large number of suspected further victims.

The series follows the stories of victims Sarah (Aimée-Ffion Edwards) and Laila (Aasiya Shah) who reported the sexual assaults and were failed by the Metropolitan Police who didn't thoroughly investigate the allegations.

We later see the women fight to keep their attacker in jail years after he was convicted for his crimes.

@Netcurtainnelly well you clearly don’t judging by your posts on the Maldives diving tragedy just now

Fernhurst · 16/05/2026 16:29

I'd like my young adult dds to watch this as they've portrayed really well how abusive men can take advantage of women being socialised to be nice and how they can shame women into doing things.

Lottapianos · 16/05/2026 17:30

Just watched the first two episodes. Chilling is exactly right. I bet every single woman has done something she didn't want to do in the hope that some man would leave her alone - given him a smile, her phone number, given him a kiss on the cheek, humoured his tedious unfunny bullshit, whatever. We are so socialised into being compliant, under the guise of being 'fun', or not 'uptight', or a 'bitch' etc etc. God, it's so exhausting and so depressing

The program is really well done and I hope lots of people watch it

SqueakyFromme · 16/05/2026 17:35

@Lottapianos and if you have the courage to stand up to them you just get a barrage of personal insults, that was always my experience when a young woman anyway.

Absolutely. The social consequences for stepping outside your compliant role and saying no can be severe. You still see it all the time. Patriarchy is so shite 🙄

Oh well, I guess we'll never know what that poster was talking about. Maybe they were trying to be mysterious or something?

or maybe ive been away somewhere with no internet access and having a life outside MN. Colleen went on about the amount of false accusations made against men

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/05/2026 09:14

Right. So you are saying Colleen said that many woman make false accusations

which has nothing to do with what itv were showing as beleive me as they weren’t false

so yes she was out of line to say that

A few weeks ago they were discussing "rape academy" websites on LW Nadia Sawalha said we always worry too much about sparing the feelings of the good men. And referring to NAMALT she pointed out that if a pilot were to deliberately crash a plane we wouldnt say not all pilots

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/05/2026 21:12

The show skims over the sexual assaults and police corruption, most of which is told, not acted out.

I don’t know who this person is but I’m really glad the assaults aren’t shown and I don’t know why they would need to be.

Agreed, subtext is all that is required and is often more powerful. It’s a brilliantly made production.
