ITV's Believe Me follows the harrowing true story of the victims of black cab rapist John Worboys

In total there are four episodes in the series.
You can watch the first episode of Believe Me on Sunday, May 10, on ITV1 and ITV (https://www.walesonline.co.uk/all-about/itv) X from 9pm.

The second episode will then air the following day on Monday, May 11.

The third episode and fourth episodes will then air the following week on Sunday, May 17, and Monday, May 18.

ITV is set to air a harrowing major new drama following the true story of how the victims of one of the most prolific sex attackers in British history were failed by the system.

Believe Me tells the story of black cab rapist John Worboys who preyed on women who trusted him as a licensed taxi driver.

When they would get in the back of his cab in the 2000s he would drug and sexually assault them.

He was convicted in 2009 for crimes including sexual assault and drugging with intent against 12 women between 2006 and 2008, with their cases selected from a large number of suspected further victims.

The series follows the stories of victims Sarah (Aimée-Ffion Edwards) and Laila (Aasiya Shah) who reported the sexual assaults and were failed by the Metropolitan Police who didn't thoroughly investigate the allegations.

We later see the women fight to keep their attacker in jail years after he was convicted for his crimes.

I am on E4. It’s very good. The police really messed up with this. It was early 2000’s so no excuse to not take these women’s allegations seriously.

Then they didn’t join the dots regarding the way he carried out the attacks enabling him to carry on for years.

PropertyD · 10/05/2026 18:24

Sorry. Hope I didn’t spoil anything

Meredusoleil · 10/05/2026 18:38

I want to watch this but am apprehensive it will make me never want to use a minicab or black cab alone ever again. Not that I do anyway! But it's already put me off my kids using them when they are older too and I've only read about it so far 🤦‍♀️

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/05/2026 20:07

I think we know the police were useless

it is really good, very well done.

friendlycat · 10/05/2026 21:40

I remember clearly the coverage about this and how women were scared to use black cabs. Truly horrific.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/05/2026 21:42

I don’t rem this at all and would have been 30

was it in the news a lot

I remember it more being covered in the news once Worboys had been caught and charged.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/05/2026 22:00

Well it’s terrible the police didn’t beleive her - thought she slept with someone else that night - wouldn’t talk to the man at no 17 -

would a quick dab/round gums show up in blood tests

why wasn’t her drugged drink showing or was that the sedative over the counter

SaffySaffron · 10/05/2026 22:32

I thought it was Sheridan Smith.

daffodilandtulip · 10/05/2026 22:36

It doesn’t even feel like they thought about it enough to not believe her. It felt like they just didn’t care.

IAmKerplunk · 10/05/2026 22:50

SaffySaffron · 10/05/2026 22:32

I thought it was Sheridan Smith.

I thought she resembled SS too!

I knew the police were going to be shown as useless in this - but they beyond useless. They didn’t give a shit and they didn’t investigate properly. Nothing ever bloody changes does it

dottyshihtzu · 10/05/2026 22:52

Yes, think the OTC meds the toxicology report mentioned were what the scumbag was seen crushing up at the end.

But the copper said to Sarah that she only had alcohol and cocaine in her system, didn't even mention the anti depressants and painkillers or ask her if she'd taken them herself.

SqueakyFromme · 11/05/2026 03:33

@SaffySaffron rare I know, it’s a series that she isn’t in

It was in the news loads for a long time as well.

cariadlet · 11/05/2026 06:48

I remember the case at the time and also recently read Sister in Law: Fighting for Justice in a System Made by Men by Harriet Wistrich. This is one of the cases she was involved with.

I'm not interested in gratuitous programmes about rape but this is being sold as a series about the women's fight for justice and their determination to hold the police to account for their failures.

I watched the first episode and thought it was excellent. No unnecessary, graphic depiction of rape but a focus on the central character and her changing emotions through the evening and the days that followed along with a very clear depiction of how useless the police were.

IAmKerplunk · 11/05/2026 07:42

@cariadlet I ended up bingeing all 4 episodes and I agree with everything you said. Without giving anything away the rest of the episodes carry on in the same vein as the 1st episode.

PrincessScarlett · 11/05/2026 07:54

I only managed half of last night's episode. It was done very well but I just found it too uncomfortable to watch as it happened around the time I was getting cabs late at night on my own.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/05/2026 12:46

Why don’t the police beleive her

seems her bf /dad of child does believe her but doesn’t iyswim

I guess till some more report and say taco man. Have me bubbly. Won at a casino etc they won’t take it as true

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/05/2026 13:05
