ITV's Believe Me follows the harrowing true story of the victims of black cab rapist John Worboys

In total there are four episodes in the series.
You can watch the first episode of Believe Me on Sunday, May 10, on ITV1 and ITV (https://www.walesonline.co.uk/all-about/itv) X from 9pm.

The second episode will then air the following day on Monday, May 11.

The third episode and fourth episodes will then air the following week on Sunday, May 17, and Monday, May 18.

ITV is set to air a harrowing major new drama following the true story of how the victims of one of the most prolific sex attackers in British history were failed by the system.

Believe Me tells the story of black cab rapist John Worboys who preyed on women who trusted him as a licensed taxi driver.

When they would get in the back of his cab in the 2000s he would drug and sexually assault them.

He was convicted in 2009 for crimes including sexual assault and drugging with intent against 12 women between 2006 and 2008, with their cases selected from a large number of suspected further victims.

The series follows the stories of victims Sarah (Aimée-Ffion Edwards) and Laila (Aasiya Shah) who reported the sexual assaults and were failed by the Metropolitan Police who didn't thoroughly investigate the allegations.

We later see the women fight to keep their attacker in jail years after he was convicted for his crimes.

This drama focuses on the ingrained misogyny within the Met and also how these women bravely fought for justice

to that end, it’s positive viewing. We need more awareness and understanding of how women
sre treated when they are victims of sexual assault

it doesnt make entertainment out of rape

There are some
dodgy wigs in this show

Anne from Motherland in a bad wig ,
playing the solicitor

Agreed! I saw the real solicitor being interviewed and her hair is much better. Maybe it’s just because the actress is Irish but that wig makes me think of Father Ted.

I said about Anne last night

this was shown really well I think. Tho still amazed how useless the police were

not once or twice but many times over

Didnt think much of Carries co worker trying to discourage her.
Gauke didnt come out smelling of roses either

It was grim viewing but a really well made series that explained with great clarity exactly how the police failed all the women. I thought the actress playing Laila was especially good, you could really feel her sadness and torment. And yes, I have a new-found slightly grudging admiration for Carrie Symonds!

Danny Mayes was just repulsive wasn't he? What a sordid, dangerous, pathetic loser Worboys was. Well done to all who fought to challenge the Parole Board's unbelievable decision, I'm sure that women everywhere are deeply grateful.

The weird reverence the police had because it was a black cab 🙄. Pathetic.

Also agree the patriarchy is set up so as a young woman you can’t win. Instilled to be polite and placatory and you have to be to extricate yourself from situations with men because they are stronger. Yet then when you are as you are supposed to be a nicey people pleaser it’s then All Your Fault you are attacked because you drunk the drink 🙄🙄.

Lottapianos · 19/05/2026 08:35

I agree @LindorDoubleChoc - I thought it was an extremely well made series. It really put you in those women's shoes - knackered, a bit pissed (in some cases), a bit disoriented, dying to get home, in the back of a cab with some absolute weirdo making inappropriate comments and forcing a drink on you. And a lifetime of female socialisation to contend with. Just horrifying

It also made clear the impact on the whole of the women's lives of the rape, the drugging and the not being believed. Substance abuse, relationship issues, sexual issues, having to drop out of uni, a litany of mental health issues.

Daniel Mays is so good at playing pathetic, repulsive slimeballs. Great cast all round

Just finished , very well done I thought. Just so sad that all those women suffered because the police didn’t take them seriously in the beginning.

daffodilandtulip · 19/05/2026 20:19

This was so sad but so well done. Oh the patriarchy 😤

Yet another well made and researched drama where the police are shown as being incompetent and unsympathetic. Those women had every right to be angry and annoyed. I really felt for them.
