Just watched it - so shocking.

As an aside, did it stand out to anyone else how reluctant Louis Therous was to answer the question, "Is Israel committing genocide?" I wished in that moment that HS had Theroux's interviewing skills and let that hang in the air for a bit, until he got an answer.

Louis is a professional journalist that travels all over the world interviewing people from every walk of life. He needs to remain impartial to be able to gain access to the people he needs to speak to. If he answered yes, that would close the door on him ever interviewing anyone in power in Israel, or anyone that supports that regime. HS is a knob that just opens his mouth and lets the shit fall out without any thought of what impact it could have in the future.

Yes, I get that. I suppose I'm just genuinely curious as to what his honest views are, as I respect his opinion a lot, and if he didn't think it was a genocide I'm sure he would put this in a convincing way (although I can't imagine how).

Obviously, given his profession, we're unlikely to ever know. In fact, that's probably what his answer would have been, if given a chance to answer.

Squirrelchops1 · 12/03/2026 23:54

I'm glad I'll die and leave this earth when I eventually do.
I'm glad I didn't bring children into this world.
I'm glad I wasn't born in 2026

ThreshingCorn · 13/03/2026 00:03

Of course Louis is good and I've enjoyed watching him for years, but I much prefer it when he actually gets involved rather than hanging back and letting him them dig their holes.

I thought it was a great moment, just after he spoke to Myron and his partner/girlfriend - Louis immediately latched on to her unease and said "I sensed a sadness in her when we were taking about you having multiple wives". Louis just went straight for the jugular and you could tell Myron was shocked by the comment despite trying to minimise and hide his reaction.

Those moments are why Louis is so good - but they were so extreme in this doc, all he has to do was smile and nod and they showed themselves up for what they are - lost little boys.

I've been on (some of) his Instagram pages, answering this in comments by telling them to watch Louis's Settlers doc.

They probably can't focus on a full-length programme, mind you.

Noticed how all of them seemed to have an absent father growing up and some had messed up childhoods. Interesting

My male colleague said today how depressing and disturbing it is...I got home and my almost 17 year old daughter had watched it!

Slightly disturbed by that but I guess she is better off being aware of what is out there?

I wouldnt be surprised if she already is well aware , from her peers. DD started complaining how awful, disrespectful and misogynistic lots of the boys in her class were in gcse years (2021-2022)
She used to complain about how they were all following an influencer called Andrew Tate, and at this point I have to confess I wasnt really aware of how much of a reach and influence he had. It was only when the Greta Thunberg tweets and his arrest became headline news that made me realise the enormity of it. In fact she seems more aware of that culture than DS (16) who had never heard of HS. (So far)
It became less of an issue (for her) in A levels and now at uni because the subjects she's chosen were skewed to girl dominated classes.

I noticed that Barron Trump's name was mentioned by more than one of them and seems to be hanging out with these guys, which speaks volumes to me.

CowTown · 13/03/2026 13:51

I absolutely loved how LT invested £500 to “level up” in the guy’s scam investment opportunity. LT losing all of his investment was 😂.

I think she was happy not having to work… but agreed she would be in trouble without him. It’s not uncommon, we see it all the time on MN when women give up work or go PT, have kids, unmarried, live in partners house etc.

Even worse though, this is America with no free health care. I could feel the power he has over her, especially her face when he said that if they were to split up, he would have the kids and the happy memories out of it (while she would be left with no financial security). She was clearly too scared to disagree with him on anything. I also felt he didn't have the money he said he did; it seemed all for show. The whole staying in your lane rubbish, worth 30 million, with no cleaner and no nanny to help, hmmm😮

thebabessavedme · 13/03/2026 14:57

I thought how clear it was that HS has not escaped the apron strings - I did wonder if it was actually mum who had come up with this plan/scam for him to make them money.

I wondered how much of the wealth existed in real life, whether its all smoke and mirrors.
But I also wondered what the longevity of that kind of career is, they talk about making a lot of money but they look like theyre pretty good at spending it as well - the image of exclusive gyms and clubs, expensive watches, cars, penthouses etc....is an integral part of their message.

If it all went to shit in 10 years, I wonder what they would do next....?

Agreed. And they didn’t seem to stay in the expensive Miami flat rental for long…

Watching this at the moment and came on here to see if anyone had started a thread. Can't believe how stressed and upset I have felt watching this it's so incredibly sad. I feel especially Sally awful for the woman who doesn't have a job and isn't married, you just know she'll be dropped for a younger model when she's passed her prime. Just so sad how these men are influencing boys and the aggressiveness and hatred towards women just makes me want to cry

I don’t know whether to feel sorry for her or not. She’s enabling his behaviour. There is no way she would go anywhere near him if he wasn’t loaded.

Do I remember correctly that HS's mum had worked two jobs to pay for him to attend private school?

CeciliaMars · 13/03/2026 16:07

What is most shocking to me is that millions of men around the world are buying into this crap, literally. My friend’s teenage son has started being misogynistic and disrespectful to her, and she’s petrified he’s fallen for all this stuff.

thebabessavedme · 13/03/2026 16:19

Yes, I would love to know what school he went to, mostly for avoidance reasons, mind you, I'm not sure he actually went to a private school or an acting school, he does a very good impression of chav/scum of the earth rather than private school education.

Oldgalgames · 13/03/2026 16:20

The bloke that stood on his balcony and said look around, non of what you see was invented by a women, i was screaming at the TV 'YOU WERE!!!!' It just reminded me of the women from history who have had thier inventions/ideas stollen by men and passed off as their own

I know. Just shows how ignorant they are. They're all reliant on their phones for streaming...I think Hedy Lamar might have something to say about what she contributed to the technology they use.

Heartbreaking for her. It's my biggest fear I think. Exh is an awful misogynist. My son knows it's not right what he says but I think he is more outraged by racism and homophobia than he is about how women are treated in this world.

Decisionsdecisions1 · 13/03/2026 17:22

I thought it was a really interesting way to approach this issue.

Rather than focusing only on the well known extremists or on the ideology, Louis really shone a light on social media’s central role - the potential to monetise controversial content through SM, build a higher profile (and use that as a platform to greater wealth and access to power) through SM.

The desire to make money (and the belief that there is no other route) was central. If it didn’t make money, many might not bother to express these views. They’re not all ideological zealots. They’re desperate to make money, any which way. Like their OnlyFans counterparts.
It was telling that some rationalised it as ‘I do this so my kids won’t have to’.

If there was no way to monetise the videos they make - how many would never have fallen under the spell of the manosphere? How many would never have expressed these abhorrent views?

We can’t control the content on SM. But we can close our accounts.
