I find the opposite! I found it really hard to get through hour-long episodes, it felt like an absolute slog and I would zone out. Whereas 22 minutes is fine. Admittedly I do some fast forwarding of certain storylines, mainly Theo. I'm more interested in the Driscolls at the moment (never thought I'd say that 😆)

I like the shorter episodes much better too

i got bored of the hour long episodes which seemed to have more filler drivel in them

SabreIsMyFave · 22/03/2026 11:34

Regarding the new 22 minute episodes, I am struggling with them too. I honestly think they need to be about 10 minutes longer. I'm feeling unsatisfied, and like the episodes are being 'cut short.' And as has been said, they feel a bit rushed and slightly disjointed. I didn't actually mind the hour long ones, because without the breaks, they were about 44-45 minutes.

I don't know why they've cut the episodes down by half, whether it's to cut costs, or because people said they wanted it. I know some people said they weren't keen on the hour long episodes, but as I have said before, I have never minded them personally.

22 minutes is just too short IMO. Even with Classic Corrie on ITV3 (that are also about 22-23 minutes long) I don't mind it so much, because there's usually another episode right after, so we get 44-45 minutes of it. On the occasions there is only one, I feel it's not enough!

Bit weird, seeing as Corrie was always just one half hour episode, 2 or 3 times a week, (from the beginning) right up to about four years ago! (Although I think they did have 6 episodes a week at some point in the 2010s. They showed 2 episodes on Monday, 2 on Wednesday, and 2 on Friday, at 7.30pm, and then 8.30pm.) Or am I mis-remembering?

I'm sure we'll get used to these new short episodes... 😆

When I was young (many moons ago), it was only on for half hour on Mondays and Wednesdays, it was a long time to wait Wed-Mon when left on a cliff hangar (I’m looking at you Deirdre and Mike Vs. Ken)

NCTDN · 22/03/2026 12:21

The thing is, 5 30 minute episodes are only half an hour shorter than what they had before, so why change?

Shellingbynight · 22/03/2026 13:06

@SabreIsMyFave There was even an episode on Sunday evening at one point. The new scheduling is to save costs.

The one thing I don't like is the 8.30 slot which is too late, I almost always watch earlier on itvx.

thenightsky · 22/03/2026 13:07

I'm another one who just zoned out when it was an hour long. I'd end up scrolling on my phone or wandering off to make a cup of tea. I actually stand a much greater chance of concentrating when its 22 mins only.

ErlingHaalandsManBun · 22/03/2026 13:15

I'm a fan of the shorter episodes. I watch on catch up as DH hates the soaps so fitting in a 20-25 minute episode each day is much easier for me. But I also struggled sometimes with the hour long's and would also lose attention and end up scrolling my phone or chatting on Whats App and miss half of it 🙄

Daytimetellyqueen · 22/03/2026 13:28

I really like the shorter episodes - means I watch from start to finish without being on my phone!

It's part of ITV's cost cutting exercise. I suppose they fill the slots with cheaper programming like game shows and repeats.

Oh it's to save costs...? Thanks @Shellingbynight Smile

Yes 8.30pm does feel a bit late for it to be on doesn't it? I think I would prefer 7pm to be honest. 7.30pm would be better though....

Why half eight at night? I wonder why they keep changing things?

I agree with 8.30 being too late. I don't do ITVx and I can't record it to watch tomorrow because I'd have to ignore you lot for a day and I'd be all out of sync, and that would never do.

Fbfbfvfvv · 22/03/2026 14:41

I suppose it might be on a bit later these days because the content is far more gritty than it used to be in the past, and is often unsuitable for kids to watch who were probably still up at the old 7.30 time. I think it’s probably a sign that these dark storylines (Theo, Megan etc) are the types of stories we should expect regularly in the future, that we are going to be swinging from one baddie to the next, piling on the misery. I think they are slowly erasing what made Corrie Corrie, which might be why we see less of the factory girls etc. To me what set Corrie apart from the other soaps was the warmth and the really funny moments etc. But we don’t get that anymore.

Yes and Eastenders was on Tuesdays and Thursdays! And nothing on Fridays….

1reason · 22/03/2026 16:36

Ah, I remember Corrie when it was only on Mon + Wed at 730pm. TV ad slots before, during and after were highly sought after due to the captive audience of millions.

Almost 3 months into the new Mon-Fri 830pm schedule. Still think it's too fragmented.
No Corrie this Friday 25th due to football...England friendly which annoys me as a Scot!

I prefer to watch on You Tube as new episodes available from 7am Mon - Fri and very few adverts.

@SabreIsMyFave you asked about Will's girlfriend Chloe in Hull. Ma Driscoll saved Police a job and announced last week that she had phoned Chloe herself ...but she hadnt seen Will for months.

Shellingbynight · 22/03/2026 16:40

I remember when it was just twice a week too, it seemed such a long wait after the Wednesday episode.

Last week I didn't have time to watch Wed and Thurs episodes so watched them on itvx on Friday morning. There were NO adverts! I don't know if that always happens if you watch 'old' episodes.

I am surprised that Chloe did not add she was pregnant with Will's baby

eggandonion · 23/03/2026 13:26

Yes Chloe could have Wills baby. So could Megan. And Daisy could return with Daniels baby.
Then they could go in the big baby cupboard.

Ah thank you @1reason I do remember that now - Ma Driscoll saying she has spoken to Chloe. I wonder if she was telling the truth though.

Everything we watch on ITVX has no ad breaks, (as we have ITVX Premium,) so I don't know if the old episodes of Corrie has them in or not (without being signed up to premium I mean...) Smile Weird that the new ones don't. It may be because they are short - 22 minutes. Or maybe you just got lucky! Grin

@SabreIsMyFave I usually watch on the day (I watched tonight's episode earlier, it had ad breaks) so last week's experience was either because they were old episodes, or as you say I got lucky!

Chloe is referred to again today.
