I’m guessing because Jim’s heart condition has been mentioned a few times now, Ben will be diagnosed with it

Hopefully he will drop dead then the rest of them will leave

Myrealnameisbetty · 14/03/2026 08:28

Maggie is awful in almost every way but I love watching her.

Shellingbynight · 14/03/2026 08:43

They did originally set the heart condition storyline up well with Ben, I'll give them that. Everyone had forgotten about Jim's ailment and now it has rolled around. It must the way it'll be revealed that Ben is Jim's son, I can't see any other way it would come out unless Ma Driscoll has a major attack of the guilts and blurts it out.

eggandonion · 14/03/2026 09:03

Maggie is exactly like my mother in law apart from the accent. Aren't I lucky.

Nicecatneighbour · 14/03/2026 09:21

I gave up watching Corrie a while ago (think was after Kev and Abbies strange scene on the roof of the garage). Can't stand Maggie and her family, Shonas sly sister, and Megan Trainer storyline. I cringed so hard I dislocated my shoulder.
Now I'm relying on this thread to update me on Todd's situation. Thank you so much @SabreIsMyFave

the80sweregreat · 14/03/2026 09:28

Tracy can be just as toxic as Ma Driscoll at times , but they seem to let that wash over them a bit more ! Probably just used to it.

Ollie can stay, I don’t mind him. Lauren and Ollie do seem good together but yeah, I don’t think they’ll go. They’ll stay behind the Rovers for a while I think

Shellingbynight · 14/03/2026 12:04

The producers surely intend Eva to stay long term to run the Rovers, but I wonder what the plan is in general for the Driscolls. I can't see Ma staying, Will is a waste of space, Ollie is pleasant but a non entity. Ben is is not a bad character and a natural landlord type, I wouldn't mind him staying.

At least it is now obvious why Ma is so cruel about Eva's exes. She is judging her by her own standards.

Viviennemary · 14/03/2026 18:29

That new family are so awful I've more or less stopped watching it. Really has hit an all time low.

1reason · 14/03/2026 18:51

Feeling increasingly disappointed with Corrie scriptwriters! I really dislike the current focus on ' rewriting history' .
What was the point in creating the Jim McDonald / Maggie Driscoll retro -relationship? Where will this actually lead to?

Waste of time and energy, so it is!

Clawdy · 15/03/2026 07:56

Maybe Megan's baby will be diagnosed with the heart condition and they will realise it's inherited from that family! Will may confess all.

Shellingbynight · 15/03/2026 08:46

@1reason I am often disappointed with the storylining, but I think the Ma Driscoll one could actually go somewhere (unlike other other pointless storylines like Toyah's secret baby). It depends how they play it, and whether they intend to keep the Driscolls and soften down Ma after the reveal.

But unfortunately nowadays in Corrie they don't do character development. Villians stay villains, and we already know Ma shoved the husband down the stairs. I had hopes of Carl reforming but they've made him worse.

Yes, I'm not too happy about this either. Jim seemed besotted with Liz (so he did) like he was her soulmate, and he'd do anything for her, even rob a building society and go to prison. Yet now, it turns out he had a dirty secret 'on the side!' A grubby little affair.

And the other night his old mate (in the pub) said 'aaah yes, Jim used to talk about my wee Maggie,' as if he had been really fond of Maggie. It's tainted everything Liz and Jim ever had. It wasn't a perfect relationship at all, and Jim was hard work sometimes, but he adored Liz. And now it turns out he was knocking around with another woman (when Steve and his brother Andy were young children - probably about 4 or 5) and even worse, he got her pregnant.

And inexplicably the woman's son (40 years later) just happens to marry a woman who lived in the same street Jim did, and moved into the pub in with her son and daughter in law and grandchildren!

I am irrationally annoyed that they've done this to Liz and Jim! Hmm

And then there's the storyline involving Debbie and Carl, and how she mysteriously turned out to be his mother! I mean, why just why?! Are the writers running out of storylines that much?

Yeah, the Toyah's secret baby storyline was a bit pointless wasn't it?! And it made no sense when you watched Classic Corrie, because at the time Toyah would have been 7 months pregnant, she was very slim, and her stomach was as flat as a pancake. She was chubby when she came into Corrie in 1997, but by 2001 when she was supposed to have had said baby, she was very slim.

They could have at least have made her pregnant in 1997/1998 when she was still chubby, then at least it wouldn't have been so obvious that she WASN'T pregnant! She would have been 17-18 at the time (1997-1998,) so that's actually quite old for some single women in Corrie! Some of them were 13-14 when they had a baby!

I wonder if Megan Trainer is really pregnant though. 👀

I thought it was the other schoolboy's baby, the one who appeared for five minutes. She's not acting like or looking like she's pregnant though, so who knows?

Shellingbynight · 15/03/2026 10:19

Yes I was wondering about Megan's supposed pregnancy too. But she did seem quite worried about it so I assume it's true. If it is Will's she'd now be 3 months, if the previous boy's (which it probably is) then more than that. Yet, flat as a pancake, and it doesn't even really get a mention now.

@SabreIsMyFave The Toyah storyline was utterly pointless and we had seen her on Classic only about a year before so they really could not get away with it!

eggandonion · 15/03/2026 11:34

Liz and Jim were great so they were. She was so stylish and he was tall dark and brooding! He did brood a lot. They had enough on screen angst without Mrs Doyle being a secret...surely Jim had a cousin or brother she could have had a fling with. Not Jim.

Liz did have an affair with one of Jim's army mates, he discovered this during a reunion then he drove her to a petrol station and abandoned her.

Shellingbynight · 15/03/2026 12:11

@SabreIsMyFave I think you have sanitised Jim's character!

He was mostly aggressive and horrible - domestic violence, alcohol problems, shagging Steve’s girlfriend, armed robbery, the fraud around Liz’s lost baby. That last one was particularly cruel. He only loved Liz while he could control her, and I don’t think him shagging Ma Driscoll dents his reputation any further!

Oh crikey, you're right. I had forgotten about much of this. I was so focussed on Jim and Liz together so I was, (and how much he seemed to be a bit obsessed with her) that I forgot some stuff! Woken up a bit now so I have!

😆
Jim did have some charm - sometimes! He was a very convincing character but he had so many negatives, Liz was well rid of him!
