The actress who plays Susan really put the annoying Turner kids to shame - they are so bad and stilted. Susan seemed like a really likeable cheeky young girl 😀

Yes she was a good actress

NewAgeNewMe · 02/03/2026 15:33

I never promised you a rose garden by lynn Anderson brought back such memories. My David Cassidy and Donny osmond posters came from Jackie.
good episode
I’ll be sad when it finishes.

Really? I was sure this was the final series?

There are at least two series to come. I don’t know where some got the idea this was coming to an end!

I felt she was very stage school, but perhaps I'm being unfair, as she is very young, and the screaming scene was sweet. The prosthetics are amazing though.

StrawberryFlowers · 02/03/2026 15:58

I thought Mae and Angela were the same age but they seem to be at different schools, so maybe Mae is still at primary school.

May is just slightly younger so she's probably a school year below (or she didn't pass the 11+ so isn't at the Grammar School).

I saw a behind the scenes photo.
The actress was basically wearing black leggings under the dress which I assume they used CGI to hide and replace with her small legs. The small arms were probably puppet style.
I still think it was crazy they were still living in that house. They said it was the family house going back generations but moving to a bungalow or ground floor flat (with an actual indoor toilet) would have made so much more sense.

May and Teddy were in the same uniform so presumably at primary . Would love to see some preteen angst between the girls.

I was so looking forward to this new season but I find it unbearably twee for some reason, I've struggled to get through the first two episodes, does it get better?

I am in the middle. This series is a bit better than some of the recent series but it is not as good as the earlier series.

Is it the finale next week? Belinda giving birth as SMJ passes away? Susan’s story feels unresolved. Beryl going through menopause and realising she missed her chance to be a mum but becoming a nhs Health Visitor or running a mum and baby home?

Beryl marrying Trixie's gay brother so ghey can afopt?

But not on the same timeline, surely? This timeline comes to an end next week - this is the last of two series commissioned to end the current run. There is then going to be a prequel. Unless all the BBC press people got it wrong!

I think being in different school years is more likely. If Angela had passed the 11+ and May had failed or a decision had been made that she shouldn't take the exam, there would have been a storyline built around the situation.

Allseeingallknowing · 02/03/2026 18:36

Why? It’s just a link!

Workisntworking · 02/03/2026 19:41

Ive assumed Beryl will adopt Belinda's baby?
I hope so.

Good idea. There has to be a reason for her pregnancy.

MarchWindsAnd · 02/03/2026 22:54

I was glad that they showed the effect of having a sibling who needed extra care has had on her older sister. We found out the main reason why Belinda didn’t want to come home, but if it had been just to continue with her university course as her mother had originally wanted her to that would have been understandable, too.

Yes. I think that's why Rhoda's ailment wasn't the real story. It was about how everyone depends on her and everything falls apart when she can't care for Susan herself. Brenda's pregnancy and also the husband at AA.

MrsMitford3 · 03/03/2026 14:47

Finally finished last week episode.

Very mixed bag for me.

Ted Mullins (is that his name?) borough the to tears at his AA meeting. I think having a baby like Susan probably ended a lot of marriages due to coping styles etc.

I love Sister Catherine so much. She has such a lovely presence but also liked seeing her angry and frustrated and honest.

She does feel the way forward for me.

And as much as I love Sister Catherine I can not stand whiny Rosalind.
She is such an unlikeable character-can not warm to her at all.
Probably heightened by how much I also dislike her story line with Cyril-I find it preposterous and of all the things that would never happen this is just getting silly now for me.

Trixie appears to be in a completely different show.

Hope for a happy ending for Beryl-who has steadily grown on me.

And Sister Monica Joan obviously busy getting ready to die-I will cry at that!!

drivinmecrazy · 03/03/2026 15:02

I have an honoury uncle who worked in housing from the sixties in Poplar, and ended his career as head of housing at Tower Hamlets.
His husband told me a few years ago (because I asked if they watched it because it was the type of program that would appeal to them) That he wouldn’t watch it because he still has nightmares of what his job involved.
it really was an awful place for housing and families during that time.
He’s since told me some horrific housing cases he dealt with when he was barely in his twenties.
it really was as grim as portrayed in the earlier series

Very much agree @MrsMitford3 , she makes a few of the others look even more caricaturish. Looking at you, Dr T and Trixie.

I've always liked Cyril but the whole thing with him and Rosalind is being so badly depicted and does not ring true.. He deserved a better storyline.

Exactly. I like Cyril.

I think it would have been better to make Cyril widowed and an active character but not necessarily with love interest for a while. Shoehorning romance in (as I think has happened a few times) detracts.

I didn't find the Sister Bernadette/Dr Turner relationship so, but that was before they dominated everything else.
