I can’t work out if giving all the characters their new chapters is the end, or if it’s setting up to return one day. It could be either.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 08/03/2026 21:00

I know there were pictures of everybody there but Barbara was especially lovely to see.

CaptainMyCaptain · 08/03/2026 21:02

I liked the ghosts of sisters past coming to get Sister MJ.

BridgertonToBe · 08/03/2026 21:02

The man at the end said the prequel is coming later this year.

QueenStevie · 08/03/2026 21:03

I've had a good old cry there.

notasadvertised · 08/03/2026 21:04

Ah gosh, that was actually quite a lovely ending. Probably because it didn't involve a Turner saving the world 😂

All in for The Other Bennet Sister taking the sunday spot!

PinkFrogss · 08/03/2026 21:05

The prequel begins Christmas Day.

Not sure when the film or series 16 will be out though.

As well as a Call the Midwife movie, fans will also have season 16 of the BBC period drama to look forward to, along with a Call the Midwife prequel series set during World War Two, which is due to debut this Christmas.

A nun in a blue habit and white apron gently tends to a baby lying on a weighing scale in a clinic setting, smiling down at the infant. A young woman, likely the baby’s mother, stands beside her smiling, holding a leaflet and wearing a brown top and pa...

Edited

It's like they remembered that they used to have chapel nuns!

PrimalScreaming · 08/03/2026 21:06

Loved the Pam Ferris cameo!

Loved all the old pictures

Don't understand the Sister Veronica story arc at all (although she did waft around in a kaftan like Margo Ledbetter, even though the Lavender marriage never happened!)

And I'd bloody well pay god money to watch Nurse Crane & Miss Higgins in their new detective agency!

bizzey · 08/03/2026 21:07

Ohh I think my poor little eyes need a bit of an extra special eye mask right now. 💔😢.

Not going to delete my recording as I may need to watch it again to take it all in.

Took me age to realize that the undertaker was Susan's dad 🤦

Wildhampster · 08/03/2026 21:10

I loved it. Despite being gay I think Geoffrey is actually very very fond of Beryl. I wondered if Beryl was going to recognise Dr Parry at the gay bar place although she might not ever have shared a scene with him at the hospital. I liked Reggie being included as a proper man to carry the coffin. Most of all I loved the Sister Evangelina scene. So pleased they persuaded Pam Ferris back for that.

NimbleHiker · 08/03/2026 21:12

I cried when sister monica joan died.

OP posts:
bizzey · 08/03/2026 21:13

I wish some of the other cast had come back for a quick scene .

Toddlerteaplease · 08/03/2026 21:16

@ExtraOnionsthe high Church End of the C of E is far more Catholic than the RC church!

MrsMitford3 · 08/03/2026 21:18

Can’t believe I can’t find a single fault with the liturgy. Black vestments, Dalmatia and tunicle all correct!

Heidi Thomas, who is Anglo-Catholi, invited her own actual priest to play the role of priest in the funeral service, so I think he would have taken care of this!

Is the dr doing the scan the same man Geoffrey was dancing with?

When they were dancing in the club, I said “is that the consultant?”.

LadyWiddiothethird · 08/03/2026 21:21

CaptainMyCaptain · 08/03/2026 20:57

I had a scan in 1979 and they were a new thing then. They weren't available everywhere in the country but I was at Guy's. The image was nowhere near that clear.

I was a midwife,I trained in Aldershot in the Army, ultrasound was normal then 1974.No idea about civilian hospitals.

I myself never had an ultrasound and had 4 pregnancies,2 in the U.K. and 2 in Italy.I was never offered one,my last pregnancy was here in 1982.

Toddlerteaplease · 08/03/2026 21:21

@Wildhampsterwas it Mr Parry, I didn’t click that?!

BridgertonToBe · 08/03/2026 20:45

Unless Beryl is going through early menopause (unlikely as the actress is 50 so the character is probably a similar age), I find it hard to believe she didn’t realise her age was against her from the start of this storyline. Menopause doesn’t just happen does it, infertility strikes a while before that.

Exactly

StopWindingBobStopWinding · 08/03/2026 21:22

I thought it would have been nice if they’d panned round the church at the funeral and Jenny, Chummy, Patsy and all the others (maybe not Cynthia) were there to pay their respects.

Yes it was!

@FinnJuhli thought that was a real priest and not an actors there was something about the way he spoke and acted that was completely genuine. I looked for him in the credits to see if it was a real vicar.

Yes, we said that, too. Priest/vicar acting is always too performance-y to be realistic

PinkFrogss · 08/03/2026 21:24

I hope they announce the prequel cast soon, would love to see who is playing the younger sisters.
