Do you know what goofy is? Im
sure they explained it.

Nope! They do too much squeeling and tell you nothing about what’s happening I tend to switch off

Applecharlotte2 · 15/02/2026 20:21

I’m probably the only one not in love with bill and ted 😛

bizzey · 15/02/2026 20:22

Ahh ...it looks like it was the qualifiers ?
I have seen the results .

HollyGolightly4 · 15/02/2026 20:23

@Kirschcherries I think it's to do with left hand side??

Oh that’s weird, I’ll double check!

CrushingOnRubies · 15/02/2026 20:26

@Kirschcherriesi think goofy or regular is the stance and whether you enter the slope left or right of your body. A bit like in tennis and they make a thing of if your serve is left or right handed.

Applecharlotte2 · 15/02/2026 20:26

Figure skating defo on tonight

It is the stance. If you lead with your left foot it’s regular. If you lead with your right foot it’s goofy, as in Disney cartoon. A lot of the language comes from teenagers so when Disney did a cartoon of Goofy surfing with right foot forward it was adopted for surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding.

An ally oop is where you turn in the opposite direction to the way you are travelling.

Raahh · 15/02/2026 20:35

GB pair have qualified for the free dance, unlikely to trouble the medals. But after the disaster of the men's programme, who knows?!

It’s just if you lead with your left foot (regular stance) or right foot (goofy).

That’s one of the things I admire about snowboarding. That linguistically they’ve stuck with the language of the young people doing it. They could have had a bunch of suits in an office miles away from snow agreeing to call it left and right stance. And making up names for the tricks. But they didn’t. And I think that makes it more accessible in a way.

There is a break at the minute between groups, about 4 minutes?

Habbibu · 15/02/2026 20:45

I was thinking about the language of snowboarding earlier and I don't really understand the language of ice skating any more than I do snowboarding. Or gymnastics. But nobody seems to mind about that. Maybe we're just used to it. And I agree with the poster above that I really like that it's stuck to its roots. It makes it feel lively. I looked up a glossary and if they actually did try to explain each trick in detail I think they'd get through one person before the whole whole competition was finished!

SwedishEdith · 15/02/2026 20:45

I keep thinking Bruce Mouat must be exhausted from non-stop curling. He never stops.

bizzey · 15/02/2026 20:48

Can't believe I switched over and missed the first part 😁🤣!

Got it on now.

I know. I hope he's able to have a drink at the end of each day.

Raahh · 15/02/2026 20:53

Everytime I watch the curling, I end up with the school hymn- 'If I had a hammer' stuck in my head.

And I never liked it at school. Number 71 in the 'Come and Praise' hymn book, iirc.

bizzey · 15/02/2026 20:55

Please could someone explain why this is a different ice skating pairs to what we have already seen on the other days .

Ie Fear and Gibson.
Is this dance and the other here were figure skating ?
What sort of couple were Torvile and Dean ?
Sorry for my confusion !

Raahh · 15/02/2026 20:55

SwedishEdith · 15/02/2026 20:51

He deserves one.
